How I created a sample pack of a baritone ukelele

  • From time to time, I create sample packs of some of the various instruments I come across - recently, I've been recording some songs with a mate who has purchased a baritone ukelele for that project, and I took the opportunity to sample it. I then used those samples to create a MIDI instrument using the Decent Sampler app and plugin. This video walks through the process I use to create the various sound files required for that MIDI instrument.
I recorded the uke using an OPR U87 through a UA Neve 1073 Unison preamp, and added additional processing in Pro Tools (EQ, compression, etc.) and created four round-robin files for each of the 30 playable notes on the uke. This video shows you how I went about doing that in my Guffland studio.

Seems like a lot of hard work. Great result in the end though.

It can seem that way, but it’s really only a couple of hours from start to finish. I’ve already used it on several recordings - and that is way faster than trying to set up a recording for that purpose. Swings and roundabouts. 😊 Thanks for checking it out, @Lagrange_Point_6!
