Corbin, I would ask you to revisit this. My experience was totally different. I purchased the 128 gigabyte model and installed a T-Mobile SIM card with unlimited data from an unused hotspot and also a memory card. It has performed very well for me. The integration is very well done and the screen displays are excellent. It also adds in full cell phone like app capabilities such as playing in Netflix, Amazon prime, or Apple music while recharging your car. I appreciate your insight into all things ionic, but I think I think your review did not capture them many advantages it provides.

Same this thing has worked way better then I thought it would. The only down side I found was the audio quality but I just disabled Google assistant and now the auto works perfectly. Not sure why it interferes with it but it does.
I do have it and I love it. Mine is very responsive with wireless connection. Do a simple Bluetooth pairing to use it. Don't use the android auto function within your phone. My software update was butter smooth. I did it within the app settings. It downloaded the update, installed and rebooted.
I have the CarLinkit 5.0 ((only $60 at Amazon) and it has worked just about perfectly. None of the problems you described here. Takes longer to connect the wired, of course. But after that, it's great.
Nice honest review; appreciate it. Fortunately, I live 5 minutes from work so I don't even bother plugging anything in.... I just enjoy the silence of the drive in an EV.

I have never liked any wireless adpaters for our car. They are definitely laggy for sure. Wired is the way to go. I can deal with plugging it in. I've been using an AAWireless device in my Ioniq 6 since August 2023. It has worked pretty much flawlessly so far. Nice thing about the Ioniq 6 is it powers on the USB port as soon as you unlock the car. And on input response / lag: I don't notice any lag - either the response is instant, or I've gotten used to it.
I have a Motorola MA1 for "daily driving" Android Auto and the Carlinkit for things like watching videos, viewing OBD data, and other tasks. I don't like the woky way that Carlinkit prevents the phone from being fully visible to the car systems. The MA1 is fantastic and doing just what it advertises. I had AAWireless and it was way too cumbersome for Hyundai models. MA1 just works. I kept forgetting to unplug Carlinkit when charging and it would constantly steal my phones Bluetooth audio and the beconing signal for AA kept turning on and connecting my Bluetooth, SUPER ANNOYING. The one thing good about AAWireless was that it would not connect to the car if it wasn't also connected to the car's Bluetooth but it requires and app on the phone. MA1 just plugs in and works flawlessly. MA1 only has a small issue in two physical locations on my commute where if i'm stopped, something in the area will disrubt my Wi-Fi connection to MA1 and it drops until I move out of the area.
I bought the Carlinkit 3.0 and it worked fine at first. After a couple months, it started disconnecting randomly. I reached out to their support and tried every setting they suggested. None of it worked. I asked for a replacement and they ghosted me. So yeah, I don't like this company in general either. I need to find a new carplay adapter.

I have the Ottocast. It works well...when it works. But sometimes it just doesn't connect and I need to try to connect it multiple times or unplug and replug it in to get it to work. The other frustration is that when the 9v battery does its self-charging thing, it powers on that USB port, so if I'm in my kitchen, which is next to my driveway, I suddenly lose audio since it gets routed to my car. And since it creates its own wifi situation with the Ottocast, I also get random connection issues. I've tried using a data port blocker with a y-split cable, but that also doesn't work consistently. So all that being said, I'm looking forward to it being supported natively.
yep, makes zero sense, my Tiguan had wireless carplay 3 years ago and that was a far cheaper car. the fact this doesn't even have it in 2023 is insane. especially when the cheaper Kona does.
A couple of things... The CarPlay USB port on the i5 stays powered on all the time - the wireless CarPlay adapter I have stays ON when the car is off, ,so as you wander around the house the adapter will occasionally take over your iPhone, which is a bit of a PITA if you're in the middle of a call. I suspect many USB connectivity problems are down to having fluff'n'stuff in the lightning connector on the phone - blow that fluff out with a can of air (don't let the connector fill up with condensation though) and see if that improves the situation at all.
I think you probably don't lock your car when parking at home. In my Ioniq 6, my AAWireless dongle plugged into the USB also stays powered on after switching off the car. But, as soon as I lock the car, it turns off.
I have recently bought it for 280 GBP! here in the UK ... It doesn't include 'dark mode' and it keeps needing you to connect wifi everytime you switch the car on and off! Slow connection to wireless Android Auto and keeps disconnecting! Disappointed and sending back to Amazon.
The thing abour using it wired is that it does charge it faster than the wireless charging. You're gonna need this if you are running a nav and playing music at the same time. The audio is a lot better since it's a direct connection vs Bluetooth when on wireless. One advantage of using it wireless tho is that could plug it into a higher charging adapter that will give you 30W-45W for example so it will really charge your phone a lot quicker. Great for short trips in case you forgot to charge your phone. If you have a USB-C AA or Carplay plug instead of a USB-A then it should be able to charge your phone quicker too depending on the max that the car could supply. I'm thinking max over USB-A is probably like 10W while USB-C is like 18W. Also on wireless depending on your car but once you unlock your car the USB plug us being turned on already saving you lots of loading time vs plugging it in when you get in the car.
The USB A port has been disconnecting when we hit bumps in I-5. Both Apple and Android, and different cables. Definitely the plug disconnecting at the slightest jostle from the road.
My guess the odds are extremally low. Maybe if you have a 2024 i5 you may get lucky down the road, as Hyundai said they will enable it on thier newest infotainment system, which conveniently isn't the system running on the 2022-2023 cars (Gen5V). I don't think there is even wifi integration in the vehicles, which is required for the wireless screen projection of CP/AA. There isn't really anything Android Auto provides me that I can't get on the Tbox Plus itself.

Then they say, "We'll put your video on the front page of our website" to try and coherce you into giving them a glowing review. I can't tell you how many emails I get a day from some new never heard of charger maker that wants a review video too. It's all garbage.
I appreciate to recording this video and that you are not bought out, BUT I think you completely missed the point of why someone would buy this. You are comparing it to wireless dongles. My main reason for wanting this is to use Spotify with a good interface since the one on CarPlay f'n blows.
Carlinkit products have disappointed me a lot. I've bought the Carlinkit 3.0 for my 2022 Mazda3 Turbo, and the Carlinkit 5.0 for my parents' 2023 EV6. The 3 died, and the 5 is super laggy and complex music will make it super choppy. It also loves to randomly crash. Annoying.

@@TechnicallyJeff yeah I’m just kidding I just know you recommend it. It’s cool when it works but I do agree with Corbin for the amount of money it’s way too buggy for everyday use
@@TechnicallyJeff my bad I only read half of this. I found the CarPlay app would not connect frequently and it was pretty slow booting. I did also get a decent amount of lag navigating the screens. I mainly use it for CarPlay and then occasionally swap over to watch something if I go charge. But I’ve had multiple times where I had to repair the CarPlay app it has and then I have to rearrange all my CarPlay apps like it’s a new adapter. Just a bunch of bugs. Nothing super serious that wasn’t able to be worked around. Just annoying
@@rob8969 That's annoying. I honestly have only tested it with Wireless Android Auto, not Carplay, and that was a while ago. I haven't used Android Auto in months haha. Just curious, what do you get out of Carplay that you prefer that over just using the apps on the Tbox Plus? I mainly use Waze and TH-cam Music (or video streaming apps). There isn't really anything Android Auto provides me that I can't get on the Tbox Plus itself.
They just sent me an email today wanting me to do a review on this 😂😂 I think I'll tell them I'll pass!
Once they send you one, they'll say "We don't really care if you post a review video" and then they'll email you every week for months saying "When are you posting the review?" Then they say, "We'll put your video on the front page of our website" to try and coherce you into giving them a glowing review. I can't tell you how many emails I get a day from some new never heard of charger maker that wants a review video too. It's all garbage.
Initially I loved mine but it apparently kills my 12 volt in my ev6. Leaving it unplugged; problem solved!
I appreciate to recording this video and that you are not bought out, BUT I think you completely missed the point of why someone would buy this. You are comparing it to wireless dongles. If someone buys this as a wireless dongle, they are an idiot. Personally, I would love to see one of these work over wired. I have wireless CarPlay and I still plug in so my phone charges. My main reason for wanting this is to use Spotify with a good interface since the one on CarPlay f'n blows.
Awesome video
Carlinkit products have disappointed me a lot. I've bought the Carlinkit 3.0 for my 2022 Mazda3 Turbo, and the Carlinkit 5.0 for my parents' 2023 EV6. The 3 died, and the 5 is super laggy and complex music will make it super choppy. It also loves to randomly crash. Annoying.
Lol, ouch, rough
