      @@mazeease There are Kannada speaking Iyengars , Tamil speaking and even Telugu speaking iyengars . There are many Kannada Iyengar in villages of Karnataka. The madhyama iyengars of Melkote in Karnataka where known for being mass murdered ,more than 800 of them including women and children by Tipu on a same day during Deepavali , the reason they dont celebrate this festival .

    Moderation is key to success. Any thing stretched to extremity including Yog is self defeating. Temporary, moderate stress is positive. Motivates as well alerts mind. Constant stress leads to emotional break down. To sum up, Yoga is mental. Avoid avoidable . Hold spine, neck , head erect in seating or standing posture. Deep breathing...pranayam..helps concentration on given activity. Yoga is self exploration. Body guides in adopting comfortable postures in promoting peace of mind . Yoga and youthfuleness walk hand in hand.

    The greatness of great souls is the hunger to know more. The search never stops, the improving never stops, so doesn't discovery and learning. He thought he still needs to know more. That itself shows there is no pride that he knows it all.
    Sad that he went through racism, yet gave his knowledge for free, to bridge the gap.

    What a great analogy paraphrased below:
    Needle is the consciousness, the eye of the needle is the intelligence, the head of the thread is the mind. So the moment the head of thread enters into the eye of the needle, the mind disappears. It dissolves. There is no mind. Then only the thread is left, that is the body and the intelligence the needle of the eye because you hold the needle as an eye, which you call the intellectual eye. So that it sews the entire body. So you can reap the benefits of the intelligence in each and every part of your body.

    sorry to break it out for all of you that he already gave the answer to the question of 'the pressure and stress among youngsters' at 12:16 to 12:22.. its not his mistake that you the audience didnt notice it.. plus
    what i felt is they are making him do exactly ehat he doesnt want in his mission i.e, publicity.. he is not shy , he is rather aware of people's blithering idiocracy...
    he knew more and better than us that he is going be highlighted less for his yoga skills and techniques and more for the marketing values of it....
    He is really into art , and not the business.. A true Martyr.

    @11:44 yoga and concentration.
    In astanga yoga Dyana needs concentration
    Asana (here generally stated as yoga) paves way for concentration by cleansing the flow of energy inside body and by keeping off diseases.
    So Asana does not by itself improve concentration but helps in the journey towards concentration.

    Dandwat Pranam Shri. Iyengar. You are someone who makes every Indian Proud and teaches us how one should be.
    Now in 2019, I want to ask Pranav Sir, what has happened to your channel. You don't keep people like you or it does not have it in India now. None of the channels who have been termed pro or anti these days, have people who can speak truth and at least who can speak sensibly. I know people retire too, and you might not be actively associated with affairs of NDTV,but believe me you, when I find anchors speaking stupid or trying to say stories just to influence and bring a particular mindset. It hurts, instead, Media should always present things as it is. Never to be in for or against a camp should be the main thing.
    But I am not alleging anything against you but so far as I know, I have stopped watching news altogether. Even if I watch I go to ALzazeera these days or BBC. CNN always discusses TRUMP and whom to name perhaps this is dumbing down affect. Will you hire me, I am available, Kindly call me for interview at least. Regards.

Also, I beg to differ from this great man that there is no such thing as 'westernized' yoga. here in America yoga is being practiced and taught at every nook and corner, but in my experience it is done quite improperly and inaccurately. Dear yoga friends, the gymnastics shown here don't have much to do with real hatha yoga. Take any western acrobatic gymnast and they will be able to do all of these poses and more, since they have much better strength training. Take Shaolin master at the age 80 or 90, they will show you amazing flexibility and strength fits, perhaps more difficult what is shown here. Once I was attending a yoga seminar with about 70 advanced Iyengar yoga teachers with 20-25 years of experience, some were very senior Iyengar teachers, and the question was to tell what is the true goal of hatha - I am sorry to say that all were surprised by the question and none gave the proper answer. So, my question was how can you teach what you claim is hatha yoga, if you do not know its true goal. Nath sampradaya yogis are true founders of hatha tradition and the strong and flexible bodies are only unimportant side benefits of their much deeper practise, Astha Siddhis are standing at their feet as sign posts of their progress, therefore they are called siddhas.....Om Namo Narayanaya

    "westerners have taken Yoga more than Indians"
    Very Sad😞! we Indians are losing our God_Gifted_Art_Yoga! and taking western pills/medecines to cure disease without even knowing the main root cause behind it.
    how stupid😞 we are? we don't even know that does we really need medecines?

      What's the point of that line without explanation of what you mean? Do you expect people to just understand you and go with it like that?

    BKS is good within his Limits, His Ego, Arrogance shrouds his Vidya though. There are so many I did, I taught, I was the first one, I found it in speech. He is a very Angry man too, if you have encountered with him. Last but not the least, , why should a YOGI at this age of 90 be clad with so much of GOLD head to toe. So materialistic - Achievement in Body is so futile... A doctor does it better.

      Krishna was a supreme Yogi , he didn’t take Sanyas and took to saffron robes , he dressed himself like a king. Even when a master of his caliber came to speak his experience all you did was find mistakes in him , dint bother to learn anything. You should remember the master had no pretensions whatsoever, he was just himself .

    Yoga of course is a stretching exercise but it is not a substitute for normal physical exdrcise.Many of yoga postures shown in his book are imitations of American body builder Santo.

      You think in those age when there was no internet or even television in the small town of mysore BKS dreamt of the body builder & learnt his skills , for the first time the master went abroad was as a popular master in yoga , he was already popular then , many westerners had already come to him to learn . It was only on request that he landed overseas .Now pls don’t tell me that ages ago even Patanjali copied your western masters 😂, can’t tolerate India getting credit for any of her knowledge,so much for your slave mentality.

      Why did he have issues? There are many reasons, though practicing yoga in his style is actually very taxing and damaging to the internal organs over time. Look at how bloated his upper body is along with his family and his foremost students. His yoga has almost nothing to with Patanjali nor traditional hatha yoga AT ALL. His ideas are based heavily in western medical science and approaches more than anything, yet people are so confused these days even when you point these type of things out.

      Vikram S he was 95 haha that’s a very long life. You answered your own question.
      When renal failure occurs it leads to heart failure due to Adema in the heart.
      BKS Iyengar lives healthy and could walk sit and stand on his own throughout his elderly years. ThAt shows the physical benefit of Asana

    • @TheDarshanProject
      @TheDarshanProject 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He had a heart attack years before he died. Couldn't even talk about it. I believe he was in pain too for many years at the end. Why else would you practice that much asana? It is backwards from the traditional hatha yoga approach. The older you get the LESS you practice since you can circulate prana more effectively.
