The songs are nice but my ears hurt a bit, as a non native speaker, each time I see things like that, or when people say "I was" when they should say "I were" because they're clearly not using simple past etc. It might sound a bit less weird if you're born into the language, I guess? 🥴 @@tess5747

It's funny how the modern day female artists get so much recognition for being trend setters and breaking the barrier in music when in actuality there were so many talented and naturally beautiful female artists like this back in the 60s and 70s. Give these ladies the proper recognition and appreciation that they deserve 👏
People who say that didn't grow up in the 60's and 70's! Elvis took tremendous heat and backlash for breaking through the barriers in the 50's. He made it possible for a wide variety of other people to show their talents!
You are absolutely right, I am so glad I am the age I am now (70) as the music and the majority of the clubs we frequented were wonderful, mainly due to the atmosphere that was created by many of the feelgood songs like this.
So right, without Diana Ross there would've been no Aretha, Whitney or Beyonce. The Supremes broke down so many barriers making it acceptable for successful black female performers to "make it" in the mainstream- Aretha took it further and brought the soul just a couple of years later. The rest is history!
First time I'd heart Yvonne Elliman was on the _Jesus Christ, Superstar_ album, and her performance hit me down deep, I was like "who IS this!?" Loved that voice, and so when she reappeared in '77 with this song and "Love me Please" I was all over it. She's had a rough time recently and saddens me to see it, because it didn't have to be that way; but we all make poor decisions at times and it's only the resilient who get back up after falling down. Hope she's better....

I'm the exact same way. 🤣 My friends call me granny and I'll be 30 this year. The 70's was an amazing era for their music, clothing & hairstyle, and films. Yes, they had a lot of crazy and depressing things going on in the world and politics but everything else seemed to have made up for it.

As so many people say, much simpler times. Here in Australia, if you wanted to see, or hear something you went to it. Nowadays it's just in your face, everywhere.
Unforgettable moments... wonderful times, the sixties and seventies... quality music... times when everything was much more relaxed. Big contrast to today's society...! Yvonne Elliman... pure youth sentiment...!
RealGirl17 Some concerts were crazy with hardly any security, 70s were great TV sitcoms, Funny I thought Donny Osmond was Peter on Brady Bunch. We had it made in Snowy Buffalo,NY 10 years of concerts 4 every summer at Bills Stadium. Rolling Stones liked us they played 6 times over the years. Yes that Buffalo that lost 4 Superbowls & has only 3 months of summer. The only good thing is Niagara Falls is close for Tourists
I was 11 years old when Saturday night Fever and all of those amazing songs came out the 70's were an amazing time to grow up..I wouldn't change it for all of the technology that we have today..
@@jackstubbington387 Speaking of that... in the stage band of the original Broadway production "Jesus Christ Super Star" was phenomenal guitarist Elliott Randall, who's memorable guitar solo no doubt you've heard on Steely Dan's "Reelin' in The Years." Elliott put out a few incredible albums in the early 70's with his band "Randall's Island" that contained most of the original members of the JCSS Broadway stage band. But he was also a well known NYC studio musician and commercial jingle writer of the time.
Another Hawaiian singer I like from Japanese ancestry "Yuna Ito" has similar beautiful appearance. Check her song Endless Story from the Japanese Movie version of the Manga "NANA" (adopted with Japanese lyrics by Ito from the song "If I'm Not in Love With You," by American singer/writer Faith Hill).
I don't care what her ancestry is, YOU HAVE TO FEEL WHAT SHE IS SAYING AND UNDERSTAND!! Oh BTW that is emotion, which the younger crowd can't understand
In my experience, the music people think is the best is the stuff that was popular between their ages of 14 and 23 - in short, high school and college. :-) But objectively, I really do think that the music that came out between about 1976 and 1991 is some of the best music ever. Evaluated in terms of songwriting, lyric writing, arranging and producing... It *is* possible to evaluate music objectively.
The Bee Gees only released their version of the song as a b-side to Stayin' Alive _after_ Yvonne's version on the SNF soundtrack. Then later on Bee Gees Greatest in 2007.
You are thinking of her earlier Bee Gees cover, "Love Me," which was included in their 1976 "Children Of The World" album. That Elliman single made it to #14 on the U. S. charts later the same year as the Bee Gees' album, which didn't spin off a single of "Love Me" but had three other singles from it reach the U.S. Top 40. So "Love Me" wasn't a dud for them, but it wasn't a hit, so it didn't really go anywhere. The Bee Gees, who were her RSO labelmates, gave her "If I Can't Have You" for their "Saturday Night Fever" and released their own version just before that as the B-side of "Stayin' Alive." But Yvonne's version was the one that topped the chart (knocking off the Bee Gee's longest #1 single, "Night Fever," after eight weeks.)
It didn't go anywhere. This was just a song among many others that would have been included to their new album following Children of the World. But as we all know, their next album never came to be, well sort of. Instead it morphed into the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever. Which means a couple song, including this one If I Can't Have You and Warm Ride et al ended as B singles or never released. I always wondered what kind of album the Bee Gees would have produced if Saturday Night Fever never came into existence.
I am 55, and remember this song from the movie Saturday Night Fever (It was sung in the background when Tony sits in the nudy bar talking with Anette). I began to love this song, when i heard it on the LP soundtrack of the movie. Since then, if i hear this song, i always remember the `70`s as the good and simple times. I mean, we`ve been there. We can talk about that time. This song is for me a more nostalgia. Wish we could go back..👍👍
@@ivanrayanguiano3217 your parents had the pleasure to live at the end of the 60`s, and all the way through the 70`s, ànd not to forget the great 80`s....such nice and simple times.

For all the less-than-uplifting headlines of the decade, this was the best decade of all time for music. LITERALLY ABSOLUTELY NO ONE GOT LEFT BEHIND. No matter your age range, your subject matter, or your style, there was always something out there for you.
Danielle, especially if the words of this song reflect on your life. If you can't have the one you want, you don't want anyone. But I certainly hope you have the one you want, if not, they'll show up one day when you least expect it.
Oooh - the days of the 70's - Wow. The music, afros, platform shoes, polyester vibrant clothing, 8 tracks, wine coolers, funky dances 💃🕺, bell bottoms, black movies, ( Shaft, Superfly etc), oooh yea the muscle cars and the cadillac fleetwood. etc. We would walk around saying "Diamond in the back, sunroof top, digging the scene with a gangster lean - hoo hoo.👍. Definitely miss the 70's - can we turn back the clocks🕛 of time😊

Breaking the screech barrier today, more like.
Yeah... honestly female artists today are unbelievably wack
There was a time when music was as close to magic as we could get! This song definitely fits that category!
I am 60 still listen to it❤❤
I'm not the only one who's listening to this masterpiece in May

No one could ever top doing this tune! She was born to do this song! Love it!
Hope she's better....
love love this song from the 80s to now ❤️
I heard these melodies during my adolescence. Life was very simple and this reminds me of those happy times
The Bee Gees themselves, of course ♥️🎵

Wooooow I'm amazed how a song can bring back so many memories from way back in my childhood 😊💖
I'm 22 with a 45 yr old mentality.. 70's and 80's music will always be the best!
Nothing wrong with that!
Same her but i’m 12
I'm the exact same way. 🤣 My friends call me granny and I'll be 30 this year. The 70's was an amazing era for their music, clothing & hairstyle, and films. Yes, they had a lot of crazy and depressing things going on in the world and politics but everything else seemed to have made up for it.
There is no comparison between this and the slop of today. The 70's were amazing.
You got that right!
I'm so blessed to have been around when this song came out. It was so nice growing up in the 70s.
I was single digits old myself … I truly miss that time 😎
I was born 70 and this was a classic xx
Music is not music anymore. Electric garbage. No one plays instruments. No one talks about how bad music is now.
BORN IN 66 AND A KID DURING THE SUPER 70'S. 1000% AGREED. WHAT A GREAT TIME TO BE A KID GROWING UP WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD. CLASS OF ROCKIN 84 HERE!!.

This lady has class, style, dignity, talent and a golden voice.

70's was the best time in the world to grow up, surrounded by the wonderful song of music, so memorable
Wide right.
I was 11 years old when Saturday night Fever and all of those amazing songs came out the 70's were an amazing time to grow up..I wouldn't change it for all of the technology that we have today..

She is hawaian, with japanese ancestry on her mom's side.
yes her Mom was of Japanese ethnicity while her father was of Caucasian (primarily Irish) ethnicity.
Surely sheus mixed clean lady
Such a beautiful voice 💗❣
👋🏽 I love everything I’m glad to here. Godspeed 💕

Johnny Craven OMG please don't leave me out my era so damn happy! ! UTUBE IS MY TIME MACHINE LMAO
Louise Hampton Truth to be told AMEN! !
Johnny Craven miss 70s and all the great groups
big time.
In my experience, the music people think is the best is the stuff that was popular between their ages of 14 and 23 - in short, high school and college. :-)
But objectively, I really do think that the music that came out between about 1976 and 1991 is some of the best music ever. Evaluated in terms of songwriting, lyric writing, arranging and producing... It *is* possible to evaluate music objectively.
One of the absolute BEST songs ever written and sung!
You have a good taste!!! COngratulations.
Marvelous voice and song 👍
agree
Written by The Bee Gees!
The was why Bee Gees is one of the best composer all the time.

WHAT A GREAT SONG BRINGS BACK GOOD TIME'S CHILD HOOD MEMORIES
2023
2023-2024
Barry Gibb wrote this for the Bee Gees but it never went anywhere so he gave it to Yvonne to sing and the rest is history.
It was Robin's idea to give it to Yvonne after his wife saw her singing and told him about her, and Frankie Valli wanted the song first..
Really?didn't know that'it is a beautiful song.Thanks
What a great song..and this lady can sing. .❤❤ Great love / disco ...feel .🌈

For all the less-than-uplifting headlines of the decade, this was the best decade of all time for music. LITERALLY ABSOLUTELY NO ONE GOT LEFT BEHIND. No matter your age range, your subject matter, or your style, there was always something out there for you.
I am basically in a lifelong love affair with this song.
Danielle, especially if the words of this song reflect on your life. If you can't have the one you want, you don't want anyone. But I certainly hope you have the one you want, if not, they'll show up one day when you least expect it.

Merveilleuse chanson.
