    I rode Langtang which is closer to Kathmandu on my Stumpjumper back in 1992. Only had Rockshox first generation front forks with 1" of travel. A couple of French riders did part of the track the year before me but most of the villagers said it was the first bike they had seen in the area.

      Mikel D'Whatever awesome! I really enjoyed travelling the circuit by bike. We just took our time, left early in the mornings and got to our next stop by 1-2ish and chilled out for the arvo.
      There were definitely some challenging carry your bike selections but I thought the ratio of carry to ride was completely worth it.
      I can definitely recommend taking a few spares though. I ran tubeless tyres, took 2 spare tubes, gear cable, definitely need spare brake pads! Derailleur hanger etc
      Kathmandu had a few descent bike shops with a fair amount of stock but once your on the trail your on your own.
      Hope that helps.
      Have a great trip 👍😊

    Phenomenal film, Ben! I was considering biking the circuit this May but saw another video lamenting about how bad the Jeep traffic has gotten. It looks like it was only bad during the last day or two and you still had an absolutely epic trip.

    • @benjaminhparkerphotography8791
      @benjaminhparkerphotography8791  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! much appreciated. Cycling the circuit is an incredible experience. Throughout the trip there wasn't much traffic at all once you're on the circuit. Yes there was a pick up of traffic in the last 2 days but only to the point of a busyish country road nothing like city traffic. Certainly not even to ruin your trip. Hope that helps Eric. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    Hi Ben enjoyed watching your coverage of this awesome looking trip. I have shared it with my brother and we both are keen to experience this part of the world on MTB. Grateful if you might be able to provide a gear list that you took or more importantly if you would do or take anything different? Cheers

    • @benjaminhparkerphotography8791
      @benjaminhparkerphotography8791  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, apologies for my slow reply. Its an epic part of the world mate! id go back in a heart beat!.
      As far as a parts list, I took my own bike. Id definitely take a 29er duely (If you can) the fire roads did get super rough so having the duel suspension was a godsend. Also taking a lighter bike is a good thing was there was quite a lot of hike a bike stuff.
      Spare parts I took and would recommend as most of the bike shops had very limited supplies. Definitely take brake pads (I went through 2 sets F & R) id take tough tires with good sidewall protection. I took 2 spare tubes ( I run tubeless but always good to have a tube) I took a spare derailleur hanger, spare inner cables and an extra set of cleats for my shoes, think that was about it.
      If I went again I probably cut down on some of the camera gear, was super heavy riding with 10+ kgs of camera and then all the usual riding pack stuff. Reaching the pass at sunrise was so F*&King cold, I had every bit of clothing I bought and still was freezing so pack warm clothes! Warm gloves especially. You kinda need to pack for all seasons as Kathmandu was 30 degrees Celsius and the top of the pass was something like -14 degrees or something.
      Hope that helps.
      Kind Regards,
      Ben

      @@benjaminhparkerphotography8791 thanks for your reply Ben and solid advice. Agree on the 29er, dual suspension, spares and the warm gear for the leg over the pass. An epic trip like this deserves to be captured well so I will probably take my insta 360, DJI Mini drone and fuji X1 to do the job. Did you take additional power banks to keep your batteries charged? Did you use local phone sim for data?

    • @benjaminhparkerphotography8791
      @benjaminhparkerphotography8791  ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries mate, I didn’t have a drone at the time but but you’d be able to get some magic shots with one. I don’t know if it’s changed but I think drones may be illegal or you may need a permit blah blah blah just have to check on that. I did take a power bank over but from memory I just charged batteries overnight, I did a stack of batteries though. A couple of the lads bought sims over there, I didn’t All the tea house have wifi so I didn’t bother. Hope you get over there mate. Safe trip 👍👍

    hi.. few questions. Which are better options to ride to do the circuit..? XC or trail bike? hardtail vs fullsus? Cost saving either rent or bring own bike?

    • @benjaminhparkerphotography8791
      @benjaminhparkerphotography8791  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I’d go a trail bike, bit more suspension will come in handy. Also having bigger brakes on a trail bike in a huge positive. I went through a set of brake pads coming down from over the pass. In terms of a using a hard tail there are positives to it. Less things to go wrong as parts are hard to come by in Nepal and you’re really just riding on fire road tracks but when i did the circuit they’d just come out of 3 months of monsoon and the tracks were super rough so I appreciated having the full suspension. I took my own just cause i was used it. Not sure on what renting a bike would be like but worth noting i spent about $500 on servicing my bike when i got home as it was trashed. Hope that helps. Best of luck on your travels mate.
