Omg!!! 23:17 lol! 25:37 they really love curve sketching hmm 33:17 - truly a painstakingly slow process but it's worth it for those 6 marks! Sorry for all the questions but how would we show the min and max points using gradients, logic, and sketching (like the markscheme said instead of the 2nd derivative)? Also why did you write d^2y/dx^2 and not dy^2/dx^2?

Hey Mr G ! Taking my igcse's in Feb/March 2025. Pretty scary since its the first series without a calculator for paper 2😨 (We only have the specimen to practice with). Hello sir, would you be able to kindly explain to me how and why you drew the graph for question 9 (a) (iii)? I don't understand what a repeated root is and why the cubic crosses the axis twice? Thank you so much in advance. The question is at about 16:00
A repeated root means that the polynomial can be factored in such a way that one of the factors is repeated (in this case, that factor is x-2). A repeated root causes the graph to touch the x-axis without crossing it because the function flattens out at that point, meaning it reaches zero but doesn't change direction (sign) as it would with a single root.

You can just put in values into dy / dx and see how the gradient changes to work out a max or min 👍

If x (x - 2) = 0, then one answer is x - 2 = 0, so x must be 2. So that is why a is positive and not negative 2 :-)

Hi Mr. Ginger, thanks for the video as always. I have a question about the last question in the video. In my textbook of 0580, there doesn't seem to be second derivatives. Could you create a separate video explaining second derivatives?
You don't need second derivatives to identify maxima and minima but simpler than (in my opinion) to other methods on the course 🙂👍
@16:20 sir why do we have to bend the curve,in a normal cubic curve it doesn’t bend
y = x^3 has no "bend" so to speak but most cubic graphs do have some kind of clear bend in the function

hello sir, is finding the turning point and equation of tangent essentially the same? U sing derivatives?
Also what do we do if the question ask us to find the gradient from a point (-1,11) instead of x=.....
