If this has been said already, apologies, but I believe the current James Earl Jones voice for Mara is the original but just not edited. The OG Mara clearly was tweaked to go deeper in different places while speaking, but when you listen to it and the current version, they pronounce things the same. I think the current is how Jones recorded it in studio before they added sfx for the ride when it originally opened. And for the 2013 voice, I believe they did that because Mara is depicted as a female normally (if I’m not mistaken) so I think they were trying to make it more accurate to the culture/mythology, but it just didn’t sound as badass as Jones’ voice!
Considering how Defunctland and Yesterworld have been spotty on releases lately, I'd forgotten how much I missed weird theme-park rabbit holes and really enjoyed this!
I've had this constant nagging feeling in the back of my head that the Mara voice we have now is just NOT the James Earl Jones one that was in the original.... It feels so validating to hear that others agree! It does sound very accurate, but... just slightly uncannily off. Really enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing.
I remember when I first got scared of this ride years ago before. I even got scared when the eyes on the face started to glow and flash as he started talking.
I’ve always wanted to visit Disneyland and go on that ride even though I, like the good Dr. Jones himself, am scared of snakes. Never knew the voice of Mara was originally James Earl Jones, ironic obviously given his major role in that other Lucas joint. Anywho, great video, Gabby! I didn’t know you had a YT channel yourself, but you definitely gained another subscriber! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Either the 90's recordings are no longer fit for an immersive 5.1mix, or they only paid for a 20 year license for James Earl Jones' voice. They've done similar with the Jurassic Park Ride in Universal - it used to be voiced by Richard Kylie (who was namechecked as the voice of Jurassic Park in the book and the film, so it was a really nice touch that he voiced the ride.) But in the early 2010's they replaced him with a soundalike, and it's really disappointing you no longer get the Richard Kylie easter egg. All I can fathom is it's either an audio issue or a contractual obligement.
@@GhoulishGabs Florida. Hollywood has replaced the voice altogether with a more modern sounding female voice, as they've redesigned that entire portion of the ride for the Jurassic World update.
It's funny. I've never been to Disney Land, only World, so I'm hearing about all these facts and musings for the first time here, however, I have a similar obsession with all the soundtrack changes to DINOSAUR, the sister ride to Indy. With DINOSAUR it's not about a different voice actor replacing another, but rather the lines in the ride script seem to change slightly with every refurbishment, almost like the imagineers keep tweaking it to get it right. After the most recent refurb, which was after the opening of the land of Avatar, many comedic lines were swapped out for more tense ones. I know it's tangential, but it's interesting stuff like this is happening to the two rides that share the same system and track.
@@GhoulishGabs Looks great! Just finished watching the video. Is it possible that James Earl Jones did some alternate takes back in the day? Because it does sound like him at least to me... But it is off a tad...
Before the video: just wanted to say your thumbnail game is ON POINT. It looks exactly like the ones from those who have been doing this forever. Did you make it yourself?
With the addition of Neil Patrick Harris it really makes me think someone or a Disney exec got real offended hearing them being called an Infidel or Foolish Mortal which warranted the change funnily enough.
This video was so goated I always disliked the new pacing of the ride because of how mara's voice gets cut off, for people riding the ride for the first time it's hard to tell whats going on.

I love how oddly specific this video is. I have a deep need to know everything about Disneyland.
Excellent content Gaby! Very much looking forward to seeing what you come out w/ next!

Oh yea, this ride was ridden exclusively eyed close for a chunk of my life

Thank you for this! I am bookmarking this for the next time someone on Twitter tries to tell me that Sallah says "No!"
Love this ride
This was a great video and I’ve really enjoyed your guest appearances on Escape From Vault Disney.

The one at Hollywood or the one in Florida?

They should bring Mara’s laugh back once they fix the ride.
For fortune and glory

DINOSAUR and Indy are practically sister rides, so I definitely get it!
West side! I’ve never been to Disney world only land

LOL, I went down the same rabbet hole. I couldn't find anything strong enough to pin James Earl Jones though. Good stuff.
Great video so far and it is def is Mara not Indy or Sallah... Also love the Figment in the top right. :D

The 2013 new voice sounds so weird and young 😑

Right?? They messed with the pacing when they changed it, hopefully it’ll be one of the things fixed for this refurb coming up
Like the weeping angels in Doctor Who.
That blue ghost is actually Mara. 3:47
I know…
Cool informative video but pretty sure that’s not James Earl Jones.
The new voice of Mara is weird and toyoung😡
50th comment. Yipee!~
Woah, Mara is a woman...
