HI Austin.... I have PF035 (hand signed by Peter at the Gibson plant). When Gibson created this for Peter they were trying to make it Peters "Ultimate" guitar. They were not trying to create a perfect copy of the long lost guitar. After all no one ever thought that the "Phenix" would ever rise from the dead, so there would never have been anything to compare it to. Also mine has the amber nitro so it looked old from the day I got it in 2000. I think they changed to the non-amber nitro around 2005 ?
I'm from Brazil and I recently got a humble Aria Pro II PF (Peter Frampton) and I simply love the sound. I always keep the middle pickup open at 3 and get a very interesting sound in all positions!
@@dercorradog60 I heard that those Greco from the 70s are incredible! Mine is a recent PE-350 PF (from China), but I got surprised by the quality of the finish, playability and tone for an instrument at $450 range
Trogly if you want to see an EVEN SLIMMER neck on a les Paul track down a 1990 or 1991 Classic 1960. I’ve got both (classic and PF) and the classic is THE THINNEST without a doubt. Super awesome IMHO!
It cleaned up really well that's Forsure....always loved them..that would be interesting if you got the Murphy one, would love to see that one dissected lol ..
Except for the electronics it is built and chambered the same way. I had no idea Gibson made a chamber PF because I don't know that the 54 was chambered. I don't know where that idea came from. Wired the same as well.
A mahogany top IS the "nice" feature, but missing here. Maple top was just easier from stock parts. Still a gorgeous example of a Frampton LP Custom, especially with the tonal options you get from the 57,57+,500T combo. But for playing, HSH is as much middle pup as I want.
Other than the Greenie do you know of any other LPs that are a triple or quadruple signature? I thought Frampton not only wrote a song honoring his german shepard Rocky but also had a LP named for his dog. I recall as a kid during summer if it wasn't helping out at church we didn't go much of anywhere. We even participated in making bingo cards that were glued on a 1/16 pice of press board. We then shellaced the cards with a noxious semi clear coat that dried to a yellowish finish. Everytime I see a guitar with an ambered finish it reminds me of those old cards. Crazy thing is that an ambered finish guitar has a faint smell very similar to that same coating them cards got finished with. Only thing them cards never had finish checking since no paint was involved. I've got to wonder why the two additional capacitors. What do they do different from just the two original that are normally on the tone pots. I know in some electronics capacitors are used to direct grounding in a certain path without having any back feed. That thing you were doing with the center pickup what looked like triplets or something like it made thst guitar give of a kind of Telecaster sound minus the twang.
I got one of those Epiphone , limited edition Peter Frampton guitars. Of course now it looks dopey, because it has the old-fashioned clip cornerclipped corner headstock.
It makes sense it would be different they didnt have the original. Also i believe when they did the 98 and 04 page models they didnt get to do all the things they do now. Im overly excited for more jimmy page guitars, with a more accurate replica, i chose the customshop jimmy page tele over the signature made in usa, it was night and day totally worth the double price. The customshop being a team build from apprentice builders who i am sure a few are now master builders. I would love to see a comparison between the paul waller masterbuilt mirror and the team build mirror. The team build has different pickups and nicer wood then the signature series, both made in usa.
I have a jhs vintage black beauty les paul. There are three seperate volume controls and one master tone, which is even more versatile. Cost me £300 and its awesome
Hey Austin, those extra caps in the control cavity are for "treble bleed". Seems a bit odd as the guitar has 50s wiring and so should not need the treble bleed mod
Now, if they built a semi-hollow edition of this model, I could see myself saving my pennies for it. It wouldn't be a Peter Frampton model any longer, but it would still be one that I would like.
One of my fave sounds from my youth. Always loved the triple humbucker Les Pauls in black because of that album. Does it sound the same? Nah. Not really. That was a specialized guitar a guy simply gave him after a disasterous gig where his 335 had more feedback than actual tone. The dude is still his close friend and gets a brand new signature guitar everytime one is released because of his kind gesture he made 50 years ago. Anyway, you simply cant reliable recreate that sound because the wiring was a home brew diy the guy did in his garage. And Peter had his own amp settings, and the ability with his left hand on the fret board. I still love black beautys. Regardless Ill never own a Phenix or have the ability to play with his kind of talent.
The Les Paul diamond triangle on the headstock at minute marker 12, you say that’s how you can tell It’s a real Gibson. Not sure I understand entirely. To me it actually looks terrible on this example. Perhaps you could elaborate a bit more.? Thanks
I’ve never played a 3 pick up guitar. Can you blend them like a two pick up model? I would love to just spend like a few hours messing with the tones/volume knobs. I always thought it seemed a little excessive, but that was just a way to cope with not having one 😂 Edit: thanks for explaining the pick up situation so wonderfully, Trogly. I want one even more, now.
I have been watching for so long, I know all the dialog, except words that are only for the guitar in hand. I say every word with you as you speak, even your phrasing. Likewise, I have watched almost every video daily since about 2015 when you were still on the tan carpet then. I am a Trogaholic. BTW Austin, your guitar playing WAY better than back then, great work.
id love to have one of the newer frampton guitar that are 100 percent correct to his. i love that guitar he played. and no i dont want one of those murphy lab ones where they burn it and make it look like his
This guitar is like Jimmy Page’s black beauty, except that was stolen. Lost for such a long time until it was found again. Edit, those extra capacitors look like a treble bleed circuit to keep the pickups from getting muddy when the volume is rolled off.
Hey Trogly would you consider making a video that consists of tones only? For example a video of all the different Adam Jones' model from limited edition Custom Shop to Epiphone AJ 1979, the Greeny iteration, Peter Frampton, etc. You can piece your existing videos together with super cool introduction.
Those who remember 87/88 will agree that hair metal was played out, so thank God GnR came along, and Slash indeed brought the LP back into the limelight. The shredder crap and band clones of clones had gotten totally boring
gold on any guitar= ugly its not real never has been .would be a waste to use the real thing looks like gold colored plastic jewelry you would give a toddler=cheap.
5:10 That triple P90 Junior is a guitar I’ve never seen before. Would love to see an episode on that one.
Any update on the Neal schon les Paul supremes?
I saw Peter back when he was touring the Frampton Comes Alive timeframe. It was a great show and almost note for note with the 8track tape! Lol

are these Phenix pickups?
Look at it from the bottom towards the neck and the flame 🔥 pops on the right half of the top,!!
Quite awesome! Gibson is excellent as Don Vaccaro played his in 78' after a worldwide tour.
The ‘57 classics/500T are ok, but I definitely prefer the Custombuckers in the newer PF.
