Automatic chainsaws that pops in and out with delay of few seconds are crucial for survival of family of rural hunters through the winter. How else do you expect for them to butcher a deer? Like putting up a tripod from wood, then bleeding it out and skinning it like primitives? No! Rural hunters have standards.

It's like a wise man said, when you settle down, dig a well, because times may not always be easy, and you'll need the water.
I think the most scariest thing about this game is the ending where the character's mother tells you to eat her after she gets cut up by the saw...while she's still alive. Like imagine how painful that would feel.

Pretty neat little horror game. The bit where you see the mother slowly creep out while your character falls asleep was probably the creepiest part.

I really respect the lack of jumpscares. This humble little project seemed to be all about atmospherics and feeling, and it gave that impression very well.
I don't think that a game should be praised for not assaulting your eyes and ears. It should be default. I am however glad they didn't resort to jumpscares.
I couldn't agree more. I don't like meaningless jumpscares. However, I really like the atmosphere in horror and thriller games.
A jumpscare is only good if it's used sparingly, and at the correct moment and atmosphere. Otherwise, it becomes a cheap tactic.

Saving them from the horrors of starvation by killing them is so altruistic, except for her sneaking some food on the side. I was a bit confused why she fed a couple of them, but then I realized it could've been like a Hansel & Gretel thing where they were fattened up before being killed & eaten to extend the food resource.
I thought it had some genuinely creepy moments, like the mother watching from the side of children's bedroom door until they were asleep. For a little short game, it was decent.
Let's not mention even if she managed to kill the main character she would have been both alone and she would have starved to death does she would have went through that boy in a couple of days. Like two or three give or take probably for if she decided to eat a little lighter but either way you see it she kind of left her boy in a state of despair and loss of Innocencedue to the fact that he had to literally eat his own mom to survivenot only that but it probably changed him psychologically forever in a very serial killer type of way or maybe just traumatized from the events but if we had a continuation I guarantee you this kid would do the same to anyone else

Theory - this game takes place during a Russian famine. For a large part of the early-to-mid 20th century, cannibalism was an issue in Russia due to a massive food shortage and widespread starvation. Children were common victims, and when it comes to starvation, it's sadly not unheard of for parents to butcher one of their kids to feed the others.
Judging by the scenery of the game and the nature of the house, such as kids sharing a room and no father being present, this game may take place during or after the first Great War, which lasted from 1914 to 1918. The father was likely drafted into the military and died in the war. Probably being a hunter or something like that, he might have been the family's only breadwinner, and with the wife not having a job and the family living in the countryside, it would have been difficult for her to get food for her family.

Just like the child the player controls, they might actually know what was going on the whole time, one of them gone missing with a food on the table right on the same day. It is quite weird how the mother was able to bring the child silently from bed so fast without waking them up. The children might already accepted their fate for the sake of their love for their mother.

Honestly the part that haunted me the most, minus the cannibalism, was when she said, "I see you hiding back there." And the animation of her getting closer to her son scared me. Every second that she gets closer to the player, I can feel the goosebumps rising. For someone wearing a long dress and running in it terrifies me. She can chase you without tripping over herself.
I'm surprised there wasn't a second twist where the kids turned out to be non-human and actually needed human flesh, especially when the protagonist is able to eat raw human flesh at the end without getting sick!

The issue with the brain is that it often carries a form of Mad Cow Disease that is almost always fatal, although it can take anywhere from months to as many as 50 years to show up.
I'm not sure if it's still in practice today, and if it is where its practiced, but a number of cultures actually eat the dead as part of the funeral process. Some tribes would also eat the bodies of their enemies to "absorb their power".

Especially in horror stories, never knowing how close you are to the end until its too late and everyone has lost their minds or gotten so desperate past the point of no return, only to find that its finally over and you'll never have the same innocence you once had.

So if the picture doesn't get fixed this is how I see it the child lives his life in denial of his mother being a good person and turning out to be a serial killer. That cannibalizes people if he forgives herthen he may or may not turn out that way but understand what she was trying to do and still seeing her as a good person even till the end. I don't know if that was the intention but that's the way I see it
Also as a side note I should have had this in my previous comment but if he doesn't forgive her what if he just decides to rip her portrait. To show he's in denial and is kind of lashing out as a loss of Innocence while the other ending is him trying to maintain whatever little Innocents he has left
I wish things could turn out better for them, I really understand the desperation and the mercy killing of the mother.
But when the last boy said "mother's beauty was unmatched" while fixing her picture, my heart shattered.

Very simple idea, very good execution! The bare bones sprites made it more charming, I think. The last scene with her was chilling. I wonder if it changes anything to pick "no" at the end.
I think some of the best horror games have the simplest execution, like Witches House. I dislike it when a games scariness hinges upon jump scares and gratuitous gore.

This is why I think everyone in modern day needs to learn something about survival in the forest or islands there are many techniques that have sadly gone away due to modernization and people just deciding to not learn. Very few people know them now.

The worst part about this isthe woman behind the slaughter has now effectively condemned her child her last remaining child to being a serial killer if not completely scarred for the rest of his life. All because it's stupid daddy didn't teach his mother how to hunt and maybe she didn't want to hunt but still in the case of anything happening to him she should know some of the ins and outs as a precaution so if ever got desperate like that she wouldn't have had to resort to such extremes the second option could have been these guys leaving the woods and going back to civilization. Instead of waiting on spring but whatever happened to the father maybe he died in an unrelated accident maybe he sacrificed himself maybe the mother kill them or maybe he got killed hunting. Either or it was a very risky job considering that he hunted a lot of creatures so she saysand I don't believe for a second that he couldn't have taught her how to hunt since he taught her how to prepare The freshly-caught kills.

Asides the "Ara Ara" joke, The Story is Very Tragic and Sad, the most breaking Heart moment or touch the feels moment is when the Mother told his red hair son to eat her alive while her body in pieces in order to keep his son alive while dying slowly, The Mother realizes what is she doing is very wrong and she is a terrible Mother, in the end she still love her son and that's why she told his son to eat her alive while dying slowly, i found the story is Very Tragic and Very Sad, i hope this will not happen in the real world, i would like the Developer of the game make a sequel of this game.
