Talk Talk with the late great Mark Hollis on vocals. A giant among men in every sense - he took no s**t from the record industry, eventually refusing to bow to their demands - he quit the business entirely in 1998, to spend time with his wife and children. He sadly passed away in 2019 aged 64 after a short illness. A very sad day for me, he was a man who stuck to his principles - a very rare thing in the rock music world. RIP Mark - you are sadly missed by a great many whose path you crossed.
I love to see people reacting to Mark Hollis and Talk Talk. This is music that can change your life. And that Montreaux Jazz Festival performance? Can't even imagine being in that audience. Heaven bless him in his calm.
A signature track of the eighties !!! Instant nostalgia. If someone could invent a time machine to beam me to this concert in Montreux? Yes please. RIP Mark Hollis.
You have to listen to the whole concert (it's on YT) Talk Talk live at Montreux. A phenomenal performance by one of the best bands not only of the 80s. Mark Hollis had a unique voice. RIP Mark.
@@sundaynight1987 This whole live in Montreaux concert was absoluteley great, imo probably their best live concert ever, considering their concerts were already great.
I have a feeling we have a lot of similar aged people suggesting these songs. I love these video's, because it is one big trip through memory lane for me.
Talktalk. An oldie for me... Very unique video......instrumental very good....especially acoustic piece.... It brings me back to times go out with friends to the disco.... Nice that you liked it....something else for your ears.... Thanxxx🙏👍❣🧜♀️
Mark Hollis was more an artist than a singer. Talk Talk first EP tanked, but their first album went number 1 in Europe and US college radios. This song is based on "Diceman", a novel in which the protagonist lets its life determined to the roll of a die. Afterwards Hollis went the artrock way, blending tape loops, jazz jams and muttered vocals with a pinch of world music and literary references... Such a shame and It's my Life are their most known singles but everything they did afterwards was WAY interesting. Mark Hollis retreated from a successful career to focus as a painter and died too young... Really the best art rock band from the 80's...
One of my favourite songs ❤ and no he read a book (can’t remember the name) but that’s where he got his inspiration from… and the keyboard music is animals, they advocated for animal rights! If you watch his official video you would understand more.
Oh yeah, back to the eighties! Love them. Living in another world, It's my LIFE, A dutch radio DJ Frits Spits once played Living in another world over and over for one hour on the radio. It was epic
This is how playing live sounds like not the playback versions of today. That's why you were so surprised . They even played a spanish style in the end lol Great band and Hollis voice os unique! Played with feeling all the way. It was funny the "THANK YOU SIR" in the end lol
Great reaction to a genius performance👍🔥🎶 Thanks for feeling the music the way you do! If not for such delicate attention, why should such gems of music be born and share their masterpieces with the world?...
Only just seen this comment, as don't often visit the channel much now. No longer send requests there, but I may upload your suggestion to my own channel soon. Keep well.
Thanks for letting me know about the dice symbolism on the studio version video. Forty years is better than never... yep, I'm an old schmuck! It's funny you're saying you're in another world because they also made a song titled "Living in another world". But the sounds of "Such a shame" aren't so random : in the studio version you can more clearly hear nature sounds like elephants and birds. You can see the sound engineer with his console on stage moving the whole instruments positionning in real time during the performance. There were no pre-programming stage consoles at the time. BTW, if you want to listen to very dynamic acoustic guitar playing, check out Bernhoft SK Session and Bauhaus performances. You'd be mesmerized by this one man band skills.
This has been a long time and Talk Talk was in those days a super band and made many hits. Thanks for this upload , this needs to play in my car again..
I went to see them on this tour with my brother at Manchester Apollo . I think it was 1986. Exact same show, same set list everything. I thought it was an excellent performance, perfectly on point, musically tight…. I loved it ! My brother (who was a fan) walked out half way through and waited for me in the pub next door until the end…. He thought they were boring, no interaction with the audience etc. “I might as well be listening to the cd at home” …. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I love your reactions. You crack me up every time & you're so dang cute too. (Don't worry, I'm old enough to be your mom). 🙂 This is one of my favorite bands and I really liked the first album. People are so afraid of 80" Pop" which is BS. Check out "Hate" Live, "Talk Talk" (The song) and "Today". The Drummer, Lee Harris, is my fav to watch on all the live shows. He's killin' it back there. That guitar player is playing like a flamenco player. It won't break strings.
Owww, this one brings back good memories! Everytime hearing Talk Talk, especially this one. Hearing the elephant; I am in my nices car, feet out of the window, sigaret in my hands, wind blowing through my hair, on my way to the beach. Ow boy, really good memories 😀👍🏻. But this intro and video / version is not the one that gives me the real goosebumps. Like the original / official better. But anyway thx!
Bruh. That's the 80s for you. Synths were a new thing back then. 70s MIDI sound to actual 80s digital sound was an innovation. So these guys were experimenting in a way. Next react to "it's my life" the video clip version versus the live version of this concert.😁

Thanks for the info... I already had great respect for his talent......... A great man with integrity.. so rare.....................
I love to see people reacting to Mark Hollis and Talk Talk. This is music that can change your life. And that Montreaux Jazz Festival performance? Can't even imagine being in that audience. Heaven bless him in his calm.
Just brilliant, one of the best bands of the 80s.
One of the best songs of the eighties!! This live version is fantastic!!!
One of the most underrated bands...It's sad that Mark Hollies died to young RIP❤
Just the best music.
A signature track of the eighties !!! Instant nostalgia. If someone could invent a time machine to beam me to this concert in Montreux? Yes please. RIP Mark Hollis.
❤so happy yall found this 80s treasure ❤

Best live show of all - at least from that era. Will try and fit at least one more in.
Totally different Talk Talk tomorrow.
The Dortmund one is good also, from 84.Although they didn't have as many songs then but still great, nonetheless.
MarkHollis ... what a beautiful soul..............................
Such a beautiful voice 💛
Music from my youth and it was and always be great. Thanks 👍
Mark . Ethereal. Melancholic. Beautiful. Unique.
Holy crap, is my mind being tricked? This almost sounds exactly like the studio version, quite remarkable. Great song, great band!
Nope, they really were that good live - unlike a lot of bands.
Never listen to the studio version. This version is so much better
@@sundaynight1987 This whole live in Montreaux concert was absoluteley great, imo probably their best live concert ever, considering their concerts were already great.
It’s not like the studio version at all.
There are quite a lot of cuts in it. And many of the animal sounds resemble airplanes more, like HxC says.
Live at Montreaux 1986 it's Amazing.
Loved it then and I love it now...thanks for bringing it back to me PaulF.
I have a feeling we have a lot of similar aged people suggesting these songs. I love these video's, because it is one big trip through memory lane for me.
@Mandy Van den hoogen I would say: well ripened like a an excellent whine or cheese 😂
Are you saying I'm old? Such a shame.
@@h.c4898 I didn't because that would mean I call myself old...lol
Such a fantastic song. The album version is amazing, but this live version is even better with all of the different featured instruments.
Brings back memories.
The heart of the 80s was called “Talk Talk.

That’s a song from the past I hadn’t heard it in a long while! Thanks to PaulF and you, HxC! Great hearing it again.

More 80's and Talk Talk on the horizon 😉

Super song
On guitar is Johnny turnball who still plays with the blockheads. Check out inbetweenies or reasons to be cheerful part 3
Played with many top bands, very good guitarist.
What you hearing is a synthesizer, special sound, listen to Vangelis
R. I. P MARK HOLLIS..
Buy the Live in London cd. 86. It's the bomb!!!!
Such a shame that Mark’s no longer with us.

MIDI wasn't available until 1983. That's why a lot of the early synth music had to be played manually or synced in a very laboriously, Anyways.
RIP, singer is no longer among us :-(
Not Montreal Sir,
its Montreux Swizerland.
He hated the lime light it come to s point that all he wanted to spend all is time to being a dad and a husband
You are not listening to the ORIGINAL SONG ....The Original VIDEO
