Always open a can of surströmming outside so as to not permiate your house. Rinse off the fish in water before consumption it will make a huge difference.
Sometimes the fillets have the innards and shit still part of it, remove that and whatever stuff you dont wanna eat, just the pure fillet. Soft flatbread (swedish tortilla LOL) and some boiled potatoes chopped up with chives, chopped red onion and sour cream, and have a beer to it!
I grew up with Surströmming, have eaten it since I was a child. In the past, you ate it on the 3rd Thursday in August, when it was Surströming's premiere. Now you can eat it all year round. Now it has been difficult to get hold of it, because there has been too little flow for the fishing industry to catch.Fermented herring
Probably needs special kind of taste buds to enjoy some rotten fish. One this video one of the three has them: "Surströmming haaste ft. Mika Toiviainen ja Joulupukki". Maybe you're already familiar with this Finnish history in British Columbia: "The Week In History Ep. 2 - Finn's in Sointula", "CBC News: The National Dreams of Sointula", "SOINTULA: Visiting a FINNISH TOWN + Former Utopia on Malcolm Island, BC" and "Sointula Museum Sointula's History and Memories".
Finland is part of Scandinavia(Mountain), we are not Scandinavian though. Denmark isn't Scandinavia, but they are Scandinavian. Scandinavians = Danes, Norwegians and Swedes Scandinavia = Norway, Sweden and Finland. Denmark used to hold Scania, so those days they actually were part of Scandinavian Mountains. It's all complicated as hell to be honest. I don't know why Scandinavians had to make it so complicated. I'm just glad they involved us in Nordic countries anyway. We had to invent different stupid names to clarify this situation, so we have names like "Scandinavian Peninsula" and "Fennoscandia".

It smells like death. My Irish ex genuinely thought our neighbour had died but he was only hosting a Surströmming party. 😂😂😂
