THANK YOU for actually mentioning metal for those of us who listen to it. Every God damn reviewer that does earbuds puts on some easy listening pop rock or hip hop and doesn't even acknowledge metal or rock exists.
I think reviewers fail to mention metal because it's not a very useful benchmark. Easy listening garbage is about to have greater dynamics and range of frequencies, as well as providing each frequency more space on the mix. Depending on your setup, you may or may not be able to hear a folk musician's fingers as they move across the surface of the strings, which is a measure of audio reproduction quality. Metal is a wall of sound. It's gonna sound distorted on the best audiophile gear on earth because the original artist maxed out his gain before recording. You won't hear their shirt brush against the mic stand or the resonant harmonics of the bass vibrating the body of the guitar... it is impossible to increase the quality to hear things that arent present in the original recording. It doesn't matter what you playback the DooM 2016 theme on... it's literally a recording of a chainsaw. You may subjectively find more pleasure in it if you get a bigger subwoofer but there is no speaker of high enough quality that it can bring out the subtle resonant frequency of a two-stroke engine... that's just silly. I understand that you are shopping with a very specific application in mind but most people don't have the same application, statistically speaking. Most people aren't here to find out "is it fun to listen to my favorite song with these?"... most people want to know "does it accurately and clearly reproduce sounds?"... because that's how you find out if the earbuds are good as opposed to finding out if they are good for listening to 1 very specific frequency.
