    My Dad had an office in that building in the early 80's. I remember riding in those elevators and always thought the pressless buttons were amazing. I could never understand why newer ones had buttons when those were so cool and you just had to touch them.

    Wow they really let these things get bad right before this building turned into a hotel. I will admit that reusing this old office building as a hotel is a pretty cool idea though instead of just demolishing it.

    Such cool elevators! I wish the hotel would have kept them, but I understand why they got rid of it.

    So nice to see another video with you and Jim again! Even if it is 7 years old now..... I've seen videos of these elevators in their current condition. They actually look pretty nice, but of course, Touch Sensitive is way better and way more exciting!

    Was this originally an office building? Now being converted to a hotel? Their plan for the modernization is tear out the cabs and the entire machine room? Those gear-less machines and controllers will last another 100 years with proper maintenance. Well designed machine room, safety guards over the driven sheaves.

      They can upgrade the speed but I feel like that equipment is just fine

      Yes, it was originally broken into office suites. It was built in 1964. My Dad had an office in two different suites in that building in the early to mid 1980's. There was a Bill's Barbeque on the ground level.

    This is a BIG FAT SHAME😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. I am really going to miss these elevators so so much🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧. We got to get the best out of these elevators and enjoy them to the most for the last time. We got to see everything that made these elevators the way they were. We got to see the machine room, the governor, the gear, the controller with all the relays, the selector, and the motor generator. We got to see every part of these elevators. This is one of the saddest vintage elevators that we have to say goodbye too. These are one of the rarest Otis elevators ever and here we are losing yet another old elevator. The nudge mode on these elevators sounds very vintage like an old machine or something. Hopefully the new hotel will be very nice and the elevators will be very nice. I am going to miss this old office building alot though.

    Actually heres a fun fact remember that wierd elevator glitch where if you hold down the floor button and door close itll ignore all calls and go to the floor that actually doesnt work on big mechanicle elevators like this and even if it wasnt mechanicle it wouldnt work too well because of the touch sensitive buttons

    These definitely were former Otis Autotronics from the mid-late 1960s, maybe even early '70s? Also were those digital indicators original to the elevators? Or were they the old projecting plane/disappearing number indicators originally?

    Sometimes I see videos of some little kids going into motors without knowing what they are doing. Only enter areas such as motor rooms if you know what you are doing. It is super dangerous if you don’t know what each thing things does and how it works and what is hazardous. I just don’t want people getting hurt.

    • @DieselDucy
      @DieselDucy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is very dangerous and illegal. My tours are usually pre arranged.

    If I remember correctly, the reason they're on separate controllers is that only one side went into the parking decks.
