    Beautiful amp, and the best choice of player to show it off. Wonderful.

    First off, spectacular playing as usual by Chris Buck! Now a quick question for those familiar with both the V40 and V140 (for what it's worth I haven't player either yet). In the low power mode (30 watt), how similar to the V40 is this beast? I know transformers and the like make a big difference (i.e. 50 watt vs 100 watt Marshall or Hiwatt models). Generally speaking are the dynamics pretty close when the v140 is in low power mode?

    • @VictoryAmps
      @VictoryAmps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes there are similarities, but it still feels different because of the bigger transformer and additional output valves. Cheers!

    Hey Chris, if you see this, I was wondering if you could summarize the difference between the v4 duchess amp and the big ones... thank you!

    • @VictoryAmps
      @VictoryAmps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sam, we can try and help, the V4 amps have an all valve preamp and a class D power section, this is to get the sound of the Duchess but in a more light weight format, the larger ones are all analogue and have valve driven tremolo and long tank reverb, so a much more analogue feel. If there are any more questions let us know and we can try and help out! Thanks Victory

    I bought the v140 2+years ago from someone who bought it new 3 months prior. He said it just wasn't the amp thought it was. So two plus years of me trying my ass off to get good tones out of this thing,pickups,pedals,boosts etc. The reverb was weak, the tremlo wasn't subtle ( more like a auto volume on /off with a speed control, lol). Dont get wrong it still sounded good just didn't have that gain punch like here in the demos. So I emailed victory and we talked about it and I told them the issues but I guess I wasn't clear enough with the issues so it seemed this is what it is. 6days ago I took it to a shop and was about to sell it and the owner opened it up and checked it out and said both 12at7's preamp tubes was bad. I was like, hmmmmm. Today my new tubes came in and holy fuck, im so glad I didn't sell this thing, it's sounds so damn good. Sounds better then you hear on youtube. I'm sad I missed out on two years with this amp. So the bottom line is the amp was bought new with bad tubes and I got one hell of a deal because it too. I feel bad for the poor poor guy I bought it from.

      @broli88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, i just purchased mine new and im having the same issue. the amp sounds amazing, but the gain he gets at 4:51 simply is not there on my amp. not even close with insanely high output metal pickups. Now i'm wondering if i have the same issue. thanks for this

    Now what do I do with my v40 deluxe...

  • @robmcewen4621
    @robmcewen4621 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am very interested in this Super Duchess amp - wanting to have both the luscious pure clean tones demonstrated here, plus I want to be able to switch to "edge of breakup" tones that are great for layering on an overdrive, as described here:
    th-cam.com/video/7Ny7fRzVFMQ/w-d-xo.html
    ...but is there a way to toggle between those two? For example, could a volume boost pedal between the OD and the guitar input... would that get some of those edge of breakup tones, (for the OD to use)? (And then I can scale back the volume as needed via the effects loop, as needed). Is this achievable? Or is a volume boost ahead of the guitar input (after an OD pedal) NOT a good substitute for turning up the volume knob? (For this goal I mentioned.)

    Its hard to play with that much dynamics when your playing with other ppl. All the light picking goes bye bye. How do u deal with that?

    • @VictoryAmps
      @VictoryAmps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All depends on the band and context. Cheers!

    • @ChrisBuckGuitar
      @ChrisBuckGuitar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Samuel Rutherford As Victory said ^, there’s so many variables. Playing in a band with musicians that are respectful of what you’re doing is a big part of it. That said, the size of the venue, audience attentiveness, quality of the mix etc all play a huge part as well. Trying to play subtle, nuanced stuff at my rowdy local on a Friday night probably wouldn’t go down to well, but if people have paid to see you, they’re invariably pretty on board with whatever you’re doing 🙂

      @@ChrisBuckGuitar my other question would be if u have a good dynamic tone at home but need to turn up for jamming with ppl which volume knob do u reach for?

    • @colaboytje
      @colaboytje 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samuelrutherford8107 both I would say. Upping only the master will make it a lot louder, but then it can get 'shrill', so you will need some more push in the front end as well to thicken the sound. At least that's my experience with a Two-Rock Traditional Clean. A different amp, but with huge headroom.
      Amps with huge headroom are something some players will like, others will hate it. It demands a different kind of playing. No compression and power sag, can seem harder to play as all dynamics will be dependent on your playing. But it does give you total control. And sometimes you want it to play 'easier' and you'll need pedals for that to get into the compression territory.
      High headroom amps are demanding but will reward you as well. :-)

    • @splover23
      @splover23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your band needs to be on the same page as you. They need to be able to know when or feel out how dynamically you are going to play. If they’re pounding away then well yeah delicate picking may not be heard. Unfortunately it comes down to finding players with good feel

    I would love to have one of the regular victory 40 D's The problem is you pay $2,000 for an amp the size of a lunch box and then you have to pay like another 5 to 700 upwards of 1,000 for a cabinet what's the point of buying a head?wouldn't it be better if you could just use the head by itself? please don't bash me I have no experience with amp heads my point is why would anyone buy a head knowing I have to buy a heavy cabinet when I can just buy a combo?

    • @1Guug
      @1Guug 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      most of the time when you gig they already have a cab there or you share it with other bands so just taking your head to the gig actually puts off weight rather than adding to your gig compared to a combo.
