I desperately want this show to get a west end transfer. But I'm a cheerleader was my first ever LGBT movie i saw when i was figuring out that I was queer. It's great to hear that the show is actually good and i hope i get the opportunity to see it some time soon.
From everything you’ve said, this musical has so much potential and so hopefully the Turbine won’t be its last resting place and more people will be able to see it. Most of the issues seem to be directly related to budget and so with a bit of financial backing, it will transfer and be enjoyed by everyone but especially the LGBTQI+ community who, as you’ve said before, aren’t always represented effectively. I did have one unrelated question for you, after ‘Tick, Tick Boom’ and all the interest in Jonathan Larson, do you think anyone will attempt to put on a production of his ‘lost’ musical ‘Superbia’?
Being from America and only joining the West End youtube community, I had no idea this existed and I need this to get a transfer, an album, and another transfer so I can see it!!!! I love this movie and it helped more than I knew when I started questioning my sexuality
(Also, they added slips I think a few days after you came.. Billie was hired literally 24 hours after I got a throat infection so it’s amazing what she was able to do!! Still should’ve been slips previously for when the new cast arrived though. obviously)
I hope that the show gets a off-west end run prior to a west end one, because this would help solve some problems before stepping onto a really big stage.
Mickey's reviews are so thorough and interesting! They always make me want to see the show, even if the review isn't a good one, but especially when it is a good review!
I saw this about 2 months ago and definitely agree with everything you said. Towards the end I was super distracted by the sounds of cast running around backstage etc in order to become their other character, the show would definitely benefit from less of the doubling up of cast. I think I saw it with the full original cast and even then the drag performance bit was quite ropey so I think that section could do with a rewrite. It was the only part I actively disliked. I didn't love the set but also understood that it was clearly a limited budget and they did what they could with it and for the most part it worked for what they needed it for. I'd love to see it again with more money behind it and in a bigger venue, the music and performances were great and as someone in the LGBTQIA+ community I really loved the representation in the show! Also a 4 star show for me :)
Oh I really hope it goes to the fringe, I’m going on a school trip this year! I’ve heard so many good things about it so far and I hope it gets a cast album one day
I loved the show so fun so much heart. It definitely was a bit messy but they did play that off with charm. I think money would make it slicker though. My main thought is I feel like 1 or 2 songs that felt a bit pointless that could be cut or reworked the one about blue and pink as boys and girls colours didn’t really go past the surface level of that thought. Also some trans representation in an a show so explicitly queer would be extremely nice too.

I honestly loved seeing this musical. It had a lot of heart and like you said a lot of the issues could be fixed with money and a bigger stage. I honestly cried a fair few too many times in the show (not least just turning up and being in a room with the more lesbians and queer people than I’d seen in one space). It definitely had the vibe of the turbine is a stepping stone/workshop before we can take this to the west end but I have very few complaints about that I’d love to see it with a bigger production and budget. The whole show felt just very authentically queer? Like it was written by and for queer people not just pandering (with the probably exception of the drag song). I really enjoyed seeing this all in all
I really want to see this! Also, apparently today on the West End a standby for Fiyero at Wicked was called midshow to go to &Juliet and I am very confused by this lol
I was super later to the Ru Paul Drag Race scene and I remember my friend first showing it me and when I first saw Ru out of Drag I was like "Oh that's the coach guy from But I'm a Cheerleader" and she was just astounded and then I started singing "Party Train" and she didn't know what to do anymore.
I've loved the movie for so long, and it's so theatrical it's been top of my list of films that need to be a musical! Yet I missed this run, so please can it get a decent budget run soon?!

I was so frustrated with the bout of cast illness in April - of course, even understudies (of which there weren't a great many here) can't always save the show, but it sucked that the performance I had tickets for was cancelled when I flew all the way from mainland Europe... :P But I'm excited for the possibility of a West End transfer with some more money put in so that (and other issues) could be fixed.
Interesting didn't realize this movie was becoming a musical. Prom is better as a musical I don't know what in the James Corden they were thinking of with the Netflix version so hopefully they don't treat this the same way.
But … can they get James Corden in the movie musical version? Just give him an extended backstory at the expense of the queer girls and have MJ do a video defending it! /s

I literally couldn’t unsee Alice as Rachel Bloom from her first note- her performance was so exceptional.
