- Shaq has been critical of other big men for years, but it seems Giannis Antetokounmpo is the first one he's truly embraced in his time on Inside The NBA. Shaq has actually been high on Giannis for a few years now, and seems to see him as the player who plays most similar to himself, as he decided to give Giannis his Superman nickname that Shaq has long refused to give to anybody else.

A dominant bigman without a jumper like shaq is becoming obsolete in today's nba. He probably realized that if he doesn't want to be forgotten, he needs a guy like Giannis to carry his legacy forward.

Shaq's style of play would easily run in the NBA now, like easily, like so fucking easy.... since shooting has become more prolific and 3 pointers more common defences have hand to run man defence or a 3 man around the arc style which has left the paint open, youll get bodied up by your opponent playing man defence but thats it.. if youre the stronger man and you back down your opponent its yours for the taking every time

If Giannis had a jumper on top of everything he'd be that much better, but what most people don't realize is that if he focused on that too much it'll take away from his aggressiveness and dominance in the paint - which is very Shaq-like.

Giannis has something called mental grit. Never gives up, continues to work on his game, and never runs from the grind. That itself is a skill. Most superstars like lebron and kd ran from the grind. Giannis is built tough mentally. Could have left in 2020, but instead delivered a championship to Milwaukee in 2021.
The nice thing about Giannis is he's playing traditional old-school basketball a big man is supposed to play; go into the paint, attack the rim and get your points. If he cans his free throws, he'll be one hell of a player to stop. I think this is the reason Shaq qualified him as he did.

I'd say a more refined role for a traditional big man in the NBA should be this; be present on defense, get to the rim, set screens, be active in the interior, get the boards, and hustle hustle hustle.

Hes totally right about Giannis and his jump shot, hes no Ben Simmons, Giannis doesn't need a damn jumper, he can score 30 on every given night without it.
It'll extend his career 4-7 years. He'll be able to play the way he does now for about another 5-6 years. ....maybe. Then what? Lots of knee and back injuries. Shaq is the exception, think about all the big men that have come and gone. I'd bet there's a correlation between career length and playstyle. Just my opinion.

Giannis is dominant. A 10-15ft jumper wouldn't hurt though for teams that play big & won't let him just run to the basket & for when he gets in the back half of his career. If Shaq had any type of range he would have avoided that beating late in his career and extended it. The Suns were way to small physically/mentally & Ayton needs to get in the weight room.
