    BB said "when I stop singing my guitar starts." Every great soloist plays licks the audience can sing back. Singers get this, it's what they do. All musicians must learn this.

    Beautiful examples! Thanks for walking us through them and the thought process behind how you conceive a solo. One thing I’m working on to improve my lyricism and the connection between the music I hear in my head and what I can play on the guitar is to try to sing something and then try to work it out on the fretboard.

    Really helpful, thank you. I love the sound of the half-step notes clashing harmonically, in your solo then you resolving the tension. For me, I call it the Swervedriver sound only because the song Autodidact uses it continuously throughout the verse & it was my first song to unpack that technique. (Yes, I get they didn’t invent it, it’s just my association.) But, I’m excited to try the technique in a storied solo as you did in this video. Yet another “ah-ha” moment for me. I love your channel & I always watch. - John

      @@curiousguitarist yes please, or just another 16 bars of this 'pure gold' teaching. For me, right now, this is by far the best instruction on how to get into the mind of a good soloist that I have seen on TH-cam. I am learning the fretboard and all the necessaries slowly but surely, but my playing is boring, too many chord tones and not enough musical feeling. This lesson bridges the gap for anyone in that place IMHO. I'm stuck on your channel at the mo. Keep it up and best wishes from England.

    I listen to many of the newer Blue's players. Even though they are fantastic, they insist on playing all 5000 licks they know. There is such a thing as sensory overload. Less is more, never forget who is your audience. Satriani etc. very technical but I can't recall one song worth remembering because not one has a melody I can hum or whistle to.

    This is off subject of this video. I am not understanding the conflicting info that I'm finding online concerning the 4th mode of the major scale, Lydian. CDEFGABC IS Ionian. Therefore, FGABCDEF IS Lydian. So what's the deal with this online information that says Lydian is a C Major scale with a raised fourth degree changing the F to F#? When I play through all the modes of C Major all notes INVOLVED are identical. CDEFGABC. SMH

    • @BMMPMI
      @BMMPMI ปีที่แล้ว

      How can Lydian be both FGABCDEF and F#GABCDEF#? F# is the seventh degree of G Major. Starting on F# begins the scale of the Locrian mode. If all this is true I'm definitely missing something. If anyone can help I thank you ahead of time. Have a good day

    • @curiousguitarist
      @curiousguitarist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lydian can be found "naturally" or "natively" by playing ANY major scale, by starting and ending on the 4th degree.
      Using C major, this would be F Lydian.
