I could just stare at your guitar all day. Absolutely beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The playing is the icing and having you teach is the cherry on top. This channel is gold. Thank you for all your work!
That was one tasty lesson! OK, so much to unpack here, the 3NPS really does expand this scale out across the fretboard beautifully. And those trills really add that bluesy sass. Love it! Cheers Chris!
@@curiousguitarist I guess he was trying to say the guy that made the suggestion should speak for himself. Player! I'm so used to drooling over how good the content is in these vids that I seldom get to see you play. Very soulful and energetic at the same time. Love those shreddy sequences too! Sherland is the Shizzle!
More videos like this sir. As usual, really good content Chris. No wonder Marty is a killer on the guitar. I’ve only been playing for a year and a few months, and I’ve grown leaps and bounds just watching you guys. Thank you for all that you do.
I’ve always struggled with this and for some reason this really clicked. Before I mainly only knew the Flat 5th in a couple different spots on the neck although I know my pentatonics everywhere and this just got me jamming and using it in licks in all 5 positions 😎
Hello Chris, Great lesson as usual man. I try my best to follow you and Marty best I can too, your guitars are also very cool and all sound great ( especially with your skill level and I’m stating the painfully obvious I know 😄 ). Thanks so much.
I always start with a large goal and some sub goals, that helps to refine the list of tasks and knowledge gaps that need to be filled. I can help you with that if you’d like, e-mail me at Chris at curiousguitarist dot com
Hey Chris, new subscriber here! You're one hell of a teacher! I was just wondering if you could go over some of the Mayer/Hendrix/SRV rhythm and lead chops? It always seems to elude me. Thank you sir
CHRIS, can you make a video lesson explain where does the b9 come from because blues players will use the b9 but its not found in the minor pentatonic scale or major pentatonic scale. The V7b9 chord I think comes from the melodic minor scale but blues players don't use the melodic minor scale so I'm confused about where does this b9 come from.
The dom7b9 chord is actually built from Harmonic minor, and resolves most usefully to a minor i chord. That b9 note in the chord is also the minor 3rd of a min iv chord which is also common in minor blues.
@@waynegram8907 in that context it’s less a full scale, and more a sonic relationship he’s getting across. And the pentatonic structures don’t readily mix with the 7-notes ones, so a term like melodic minor pentatonic is probably not used much, but that’s definitely a way to describe that sound!
@@curiousguitarist SRV doesn't trill the b5, its called a STING. Trill is what classical composers use but texas blues its called Sting which is a different type of execution which is SMEARING effect the b5 which is the microtonal out of tune note which is the blue note. If you don't get that smearing blurring effect out of the b5 and the microtonal out of tune note you're missing what the blue note is.
@@curiousguitarist Yes I did haha. Half diminished chords used to confuse me cause I didn’t understand how minor 6 and half diminished were inversions of themselves.
Crazy good enlightening lesson 👍🏻 thanks so much for sharing your talent and knowledge! Amazing 😯
My pleasure, Robin. Glad you’re here.

Excellent lesson, Chris
After all these years, the blues scale kinda makes sense. Context is everything
Thank you 🙏

Hey Chris, could/would you do a video that's a self biography? I think a lot of us would find it fascinating.
Sure, I have one planned out already, but I have to find a bunch of old pictures that I want to include. Thanks for the suggestion.
Think for yerself nuggballs.

You are seriously the best guitar teacher on TH-cam.
Thanks, Dan!
Very meaningful stuff here. Thank you. That movement you present at 8:42 put the song "Take 5" by Brubeck in my head and now it won't leave.

this lesson addresses exactly what ive struggled with past few months. Thanks!
You bet, John!
Thank you Chris. I’ve been stuck in a rut lately and since I’m a technical person you explaining music theory is helping me play how I want to play.
That is simply great to hear Alex, thanks for the comment.

I love the blues scales. Thank you Chris

Lots of parts and pieces to study here Chris! That 1 1/2 note bend is awesome. When I hear that I always think of Clapton. Thanks as always!

Yup, the last phrase in the “You Really Got Me” solo off of Van Halen 1 has these bends in it.
