    My dad was in H Division in the early 70's. At the time, he was one of Melbourne's most feared crooks but he still had nightmares about H Division until the early 90's. The stories he told me were horrid.

      @@Thebull3478 No problem. He told me that he used to knock his own teeth out because the dental area was out of H, and meant he could see the outside world. He also smashed his legs up with a bar for the same reason. He was tasked with smashing the bluestone up at one stage but said the sledgehammer just bounced off it. He was 6 foot 2 and 114kg with no body fat and he couldn't make a dent.

    The cell where you said ya didn't know what that was, used to be half the size of what it was in that video. In the 70's that was called number 3 shower yard. It ain't no yard, it was a box. It was a punishment box with a shower head that dribbled cold water. The rocks were so we couldn't stand flat footed or sit down under the shower head. I showered in there every other day for 16 months. 3 4 3 they used to call it. 3 minutes in shower 3 basically. I left after 3 minutes only about a dozen times. Every other time, I'd force the goons to skull drag me out. The good ol days when goons had dash. No gas cell extractions.

    I'm so sick of gentrification. This place has so much history it should have been kept and maintained in it's entirety as a prison museum and given listed status. It's being knocked down and converted into apartments now and for what? So Stacey and Blake can play Melburnian in their quirky 1 bedroom apartment with sh!t views? Long live Pentridge, Where men were made and lost.

      @@fingerprint5511 It's one of the most important historical jails in Australian history. Ned Kelly was locked up there ffs. Next they might as well just take his armour from the state library and melt it down for whatever pittance of value the metal in it might have. It makes my blood boil what they've done to Pentridge. It's a place with history important to a lot of people, both prisoners and former screws, and all the people who knew them.

    👏👏👏 Another brilliant video mate. Thanks for sharing.
    - I have the plans at home and will get back to you with cell numbers.
    - The black rail/holder next to the shoots used to hold a 6 and 12pound sledgy and a shovel and broom.
    -The rocks on the ground used to have a particular name (forget), they were where you steadied the bluestone before striking it.
    - The original internal walls and original Labour Yards were destroyed and have now been 'restored' and 'rebuilt' using original materials.
    - The staircase is the original staircase. It had a timber staircase built over the top of it sometime in the 50s I think, which has now been removed again.
    Anyone got more info???

    • @johnnyfairmont
      @johnnyfairmont 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not entirely. The four cells closest to the main door had the middle walls knocked out of them in the 70s to make two 'large' activity rooms and showers.. thus giving the illusion to a more humaine H div to the public after the Jenkinson Enquiry.
      All the benches, showers and sinks etc etc were sent straight to the tip. The only parts left really were the walls of the corridor and the two outer walls.
      The rest I believe was rebuilt to spec of the original plans. Even the catwalk and corridor roof are 'new' sadly.
      Again.. your footage is as valuable as it gets - This video just confirms that. 👍

      @Bruce Bulley yea mate she's very different these days, the entire system has changed not for the better, for the worst:it's a joke what these young fellas have become ,and why they become tobe this way " ICE " this is why they are even doing crime in the first place they are all skinny fukd out junkies doing dumb shit to get their next shot or puff and our generation would do crime to earn money to fund a life style that we wanted to live and when we got pinched we would go do our time and train get super fit and get on the shit, 🥳party on the weekends and come Monday back to training and keeping fit, these days the youngens are just chasing from the second they open their eyes until lock In they stay Boney skinny from day 1 until they being released its sad the way the cooks have changed, the jails was made up of 70% real crooks earnin for that good life and 30% just earning to support a habit but today is 20% real cooks for the lifestyle and 80% junkies looking for their next shot or puff and that's why jail was 100x more dangerous back then compared to now
