      What is the transfer portal process and how do coaches find you? As a fan the "portal" though it might not be a literal portal, it's hard to wrap my mind of the entire system. Like do you obtain your highlights, post them, and coaches contact you? Wondering what the overall process is.

    • @rob_bg1668
      @rob_bg1668 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheChriscowan626 Yeah, I have always wondered this too. Do players just have film of themselves to give out to schools. Are they not allowed to do so until they're in the portal.. It seems like some of those transfer decisions are made before they are even in the portal.

    • @rob_bg1668

      Wondering how NIL works for the actual athletes. I don't know how much the schools can\are involved in that, and just seems like it would be a lot to navigate for students who are also going to classes and practicing all the time.

    Michigan fan here, Its really great to see a player who transfers and can completely understand everything they went through and be totally honest with us. I personally don't know your whole story but I do remember you being here. Also I'm really glad that everything worked out for you because while watching this video and seeing the type of man you are and your honesty it's actually inspiring. I would love to hear the difference between the Universities and there programs through your voice because I know it will be said with 100% honesty .

    Thank you Hunter. Man, when you mentioned that Rutgers game I knew exactly which (4th down) play you meant. Right spot, right read, right position, have your hand in there, and the sometimes the other guy just makes a play. That's how we feel about your career at Michigan: you gave us all we could ever ask. I don't think there's a single fan on mgo who's ever voiced anything but support for your decision to transfer. Michigan fans will always consider you one of our own, and cheer you on wherever you go.

    Much respect Hunt! I appreciate you sharing your story! You gave great insight on what its like to be a walk on as well as a Michigan Wolverine. COVID was a tough time for all, I'm very happy you put your nose to the grindstone through those difficult times and not giving up when it was easy. Bottom line you got your degree from The University of Michigan, you completed the one goal you had for yourself since stepping on campus. But more importantly you did what was best for yourself, you put you first and really showed what you were capable of.. It speaks volumes the type of man you are. Your time with Michigan is respected and greatly appreciated. Much Love and Go Blue!

    Michigan fan here, and I remember your time here at Michgan. I'm an usher at the Michigan Stadium, was at every home game. Don't know your whole story and not going to pretend to, Much respect for you and admiration that you are able to come on here and be honest without any bitterness or ill intent towards Michigan and your experience, and understanding the bigger picture and seeing how you've grown as a player and matured in to a real man. Look forward to more vidoes, am subscribing now. Love the Wu Tang shirt.
    Always love the walk on stories and seeing the kids make it that may not have had all the experiences of some of the other high school kids and recruiting. Cannot imagine being a college student and D1 football player through the whole Covid world we all lived through. Unreal world and that you made it out through the other side and went on to football program, glad to hear it worked out for you. Fully support any Michigan player that leaves to get to play; all the hardwork you put in and to not get to play ?
    And an irrational confidence in yourself? Everyone should have an irrational confdience in themselves; because shit if you don't have it in yourself why the hell should anyone else take risks on you?
    Love how genuine and real you are about your experience and how maturely you have grown and accepted the outcome of how it played out for you. Everything works out in the end and you have to take your own path and you showed that is fact.
    Go Blue!

    Got respect for you and all Walk ons. Gotta be a hard ass worker to do what you’ve done. Back in the 80s my dad walked on at grand valley state and he’s told me countless stories of the hard work and dedication that he had to do along with all other walk ons. And you’ll get very little glory, with guys like you Michigan would be nothing happy you got to play somewhere else. Man, the point about not getting playing time after coaches tell you that you will is so true. I had that happen to me in high school which is a whole different game, but it sucked getting told that every day over summer just to have a senior come back the 1st week of the season and get his starting spot back (he missed the whole summer). I was a sophomore at the time and essentially got merged back with the freshman group. Then coaches wondered why I “wasn’t showing the same heart in practice.”

      They 100% have the opportunity!!!! Guarantee if you can produce results beating top competition and send them film of them practicing working form drills or other important fundamentals of tennis and some film of match play. If they have the talent they will be recruited. I worked for a head football coach mostly managing and organizing his recruiting of his regional area. Other sports beyond football, basketball and baseball do not have anywhere near the budget. That means they cannot focus efforts where results cannot be expected. I can guarantee you searching Madagascar for tennis players is not something that sounds like guaranteed results in recruiting. That’s why you need to recruit yourself. All these schools care about is can you play to the level they compete at, can you academically be accepted into the school. Check those two boxes and send your info to every school that exists. If they are truly D1 athletes they will play D1 if you and them put forth the effort. Effort is seen as promise of work ethic. Now get after it!!!

    I can relate to the pressure of being injured as a walk-on and feeling like you couldn't miss any time or it would be held against you. I walked on at Michigan's CC team. Had achilles tendonitis each of last 3 seasons. I remember feeling so much pressure to get back quickly. I should've brought my books to the training room and studied as I took ice baths in the whirlpool - I probably did, just don't remember. Of course, the scholarship guys probably had more pressure to come back early from injury or just tough it out. I met up with a teammate who never fully recuperated from injury and he walks with a limp years later.

    Good to hear this story as a Michigan fan in Utah. (Family from Michigan, my first outfit as a baby was Maize and Blue). I'm a Utah State graduate so I continued to follow your career when you came to Logan. I wondered why you transferred because it appeared as if you were rising up the depth chart and starting to get more playing time...now it makes sense. BTW how did you choose Utah State? You're the only guy I know of that played for my 2 favorite teams and you balled out at Utah State. I wish continued success!

    I’m at the 5min mark in the video and can relate big time to the injury. I had a groin injury in our spring scrimmage and tried to push through over the summer. That’s my biggest regret. Definitely would have taken the time to recover properly if I could do it over again.

    I heard something at the beginning of this season (non related to Michigan) that puts things into perspective for me. It also piggy backs off of “college football is a business.”
    It’s “players are fighting for the starting job, while coaches are fighting for their jobs” unfortunately they’re all just trying to keep their jobs and will do anything to make it happen.

    Hunter, loved the video, I watched you play, remember when you transferred. You seem like a real mature young man, I think your approach to football will work in all aspects of life. Wanted to ask, what degree did you get? To have made the team as a walkon is a great accomplishment, but you went further and got real playing time. One thing wanted to ask as a lifelong Michigan fan, do you have any thoughts on how Michigan was able to go from the 2020 season to the 2021 season? To me as an outside observer the transition was amazing, it seemed 2020 the team was playing together, and in 2021 it seemed like it was a total team effort. Really enjoyed your talk, you should be super proud of all you accomplished. Go Blue!! Brad

      Thank you! Got my degree in economics and then I might touch on it in a video but long story short the offense developed an identity, the defensive scheme change worked and there was more overall experience at important positions

    LIke the others, I am a huge Michigan Fan. This is awesome. Love the honest, inside perspective that only you could bring. I remember you playing. gonna rewatch the two games at UM you played in and put on a few at Utah State.
    So i do have one question... from the outside, recruiting is a crap shoot. There are dozens of "experts" and "insiders" for every school, but they might as wel be rollin dice. Is this much more clear from the players perspective? Do the recruits know where they are going and do the players know who is coming in through hosting? do you think the coaches know or is it really as chaoitic for everyone involved as it looks from the outside? These are 16/17 year olds after all.

    • @hntr27
      @hntr27  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once you get to college you know some of the guys coming in thru the coaching staff and social media but recruiting is really just projecting teenagers to a highly pressurized situation so it’s very hit or miss
