a good match (against very stiff competition) for the up and coming ladies that was anchored by some of the veterans. Never a dull moment and at times it was pretty physical!
I like our surly and highly qualified No. 1 goalie Naeher very much but giving Murphy a chance in 2022 at at least for a few games would please plenty of video spectators such as myself.
Thanks, Yohn. Good game and a chance for some low-risk debuts. Murphy is a stand out and Alyssa Naeher must be looking nervously over her shoulder. I liked Huerta and wish she'd had more minutes, as well as Hatch, who must be relishing having a goal so early in her career. I also liked Cook, but she has a long way to go to match Abby Dahlkemper. I still think Sonnett is a liability, but that's maybe just me - she screws up more than she impresses. Davidson was a good Sauerbrunn-substitute, but I prefer her on the right, with Becky and Abby in the centre spots. But there was a whole heap of give-aways. Players were not positioning themselves to receive and passes were less than accurate. They were seriously missing Ertz as the lynchpin, controlling the play. And interesting that Kirstie Mewis is in the current squad, but Sam is not. Overall, I think Sam is the better player.
Watched it again in March 2023. I stand bu my comments below but want to add, that Fowler of Australia will be the next star on the firmament. I also appreciated Fox more this time. She turned from a timid rookie into a fierce defender or formidable midfielder. Horan is as as clumsy as ever and our new goalie is tops.
For Morgan Weaver I know it's her first taste of Senior International play, but she needs to learn how to stay on her feet when being contacted. It's a much more physical game. She needs to learn how to absorb the physical contact instead. Hopefully that will come with time and more experience.
Some of the referees are sometimes responsible for injuries on the players because they lose control of the game lets go too many fouls without showing the yellow or red card.
This referee wouldn't know a red card if she fell over it. My take is that once Australia had figured out that this referee was timid and weak they took full advantage of that and declared open season on our women. To put a meek and timid ref in a game that included the most notorious cage fighters of the 160-some FIFA teams was either intentional by a USA hater or an incompetent nincompoop.
Great game. Carlie Lloyd was no. 10 for several years. This number is often granted to the very best player of teams. It's outrageous, therefore, that Horan, a mediocre midfielder claimed this honor for herself. Horan deserves anything but but number 10.
At the risk of having these comments blocked also, here are my final observations: Owing to a myopic referee enabler Australia was able to further burnish its reputation as the most ruthless FIFA team causing the most brutal fouls in the world. What qualified Sauerbrunn at her advanced age to mix with the young Turks? She is old enough to be the mother of more than one of the Aussie players. This is the YOUNG new team, (geriatrics not withstanding), so, what gives? And who else of the over-the-hill gang might come back in 22?
I agree about the Aussies and the soft referee (I don't think I've ever seen a USA-Aussie game with NO yellow cards, although I think Canada has more individual thugs in their team), but the young guns need the experienced players as well. Sauerbrunn, even at her age, is better than the entire backline used altogether. This team played OK, but not perfectly, and they would not win the WWC in 2023. That will only come with the experienced players bringing their knowledge and skills to the team.
@@nzlemming yes, you are absolutely correct about Sauerbrunn's superb career. My point merely was that this was billed as the all-new team with young players having a chance to strut their stuff (and they did) and Sauerbrunn just didn't seem to fit in age-wise. It would never occur to me to say anything disparaging about her abilities. But ask yourself: If Sauerbrunn, why not also Morgan or Rapinoe?
And the question is WHY one single senior player (Sauerbrunn)? Yes, she is great but there is an inconsistency here. Could this mean that winning in Australia was important enough to the coach to put some insurance on the team because the rest of the cadre of defenders we have, and there are several, could not provide a younger quality player good enough to assure victory?
@@ritasinkovec1693 She's also the actual team captain. I do think he's using her inadequately but not in significant matches. He knows that *someone* has to take her place (my money is on Davidson) but no-one is at that level yet. Still, the last 8 minutes is a bit weird to sub her on. Winning in Aus wasn't that important, I think, though they never like to lose. What he wants is to *test* them, challenge them, and get them to rise to it. When it comes to major games in competition, I think we'll see a few more "seasoned" players starting, and subbing in earlier, if the team is in trouble, the way Jill Ellis kept Carli on the bench for crunch moments.
@@nzlemming All true. There is only one problem: lack of consistency. Either you mean it when you say that you put the new young team together and go all the way with it or you compromise which means you don't mean to put out an all-young team. We had the young players in the ranks waiting for their chance. Some never got it while Sauerbrun (love and respect her enormously) used up that space. Particularly our defense needs to be restructured with young talent. Cook is a hopeless case and I know that her coach will not let go of her. He must love her. Beats me why.
First of all, they are women and not girls. Secondly, whom exactly did you have in mind when you state that some of the ladies have to go? And, please, state your qualifications that, at least in your mind, entitles you to make such assertions.
Europeans do not play particularly dirty. I could list 5 or 10 teams that are a lot rougher than Germany, France, England or Sweden. But you know that already. I don't know your background but Europe and Germany bashing will not endear you to readers on this site.
This USWNT may not be the world champion anymore. Only Rose would check around to find room to the teammates to create the chance to score. The other girls just stared only on the ball in one straight direction without checking around. They tried to keep running fast with physically won over the opponents. This was not effecive and how the high level soccer to play. Horan as no 10 kept the ball too long for trying to be creative. However, she is phyiscal strong and overall with good skill but not in using the ball as well as Rose. Coach Andonoski may need to build a team for Rose instead of Horan for more chance to win the games. The USWNT might miss some of the retired teammates. In fact, Matildas was overall very good in team work and created some good scoring chances in this game but denied by the excellent performance of the new us goalie. I guess the Spanish women soccer team will have good chance to be the women world soccer champion.
Rose has bad legs and will fizzle. Her passing game is good but her shots on goal are mediocre at best and she is too self-possessed. She exhibits all the early indicators of becoming a prima donna like Rapinoe although right now she is still shy (and straight). Give it time.
Not being critical, but the highest goal scorer in nwsl history (against all those players like Morgan and Rose)? Kerr being called the best is justified…
The craziest moments in women's sports are like a highlight reel of jaw-dropping talent
#18 Murphy very good goalkeeper,
the best US goalie I have seen in a king time. Make her the No. 1 from now on.
"in a long time", sorry.
Rose Lavelle, is amazing 👏 her Team won almost every game she plays in😊 good job Rose, keep it up!
Awesome win!… Congratulations! 🇺🇸

This was my introduction to Casey Murphy. Clearly a contender for the #1GK.

@@lydiaanderson3312 hi Lydia, doing pretty well thanks for asking, how are you doing?
The referee didn't give 4 VERY CLEAR yellow cards. What are they thinking?

Where is the yellow card? Every time is an intentional foul everywhere in the world the player gets a yellow card or a red card.
tener todo tu equipo titular y perder con USA, está bien, pero perder contra toda la suplencia de usa, es otra cosa, y 3-0 🤔

Horan parece futbolista latino, ya aprendio las malas mañas, clavados, piscinasos, fingir faltas.
Kerr on the Aussie team is so far from being the best player ever like Marta and Alex morgen and rose and Megan

putting Morgan and Rapinoe on the same level with Marta is an insult a to Marta and proof that you need to get a new pair of glasses.
Also I find that players are often good at different roles, there isn’t really any ‘best’ per se. Midfield, defence, goal etc.
