Ive been following you for about 2 weeks. Im testing at the end of August. Few things to clean up to make this a grand channel but i hope your channel blows up because you definitely have a lot of knowledge to offer!!
Thank you so much for the resources! I will be taking the exam in August and failed the first time so I’m praying I pass this time around! 🙏🏾 I also just had a baby so need resources that make studying easy. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great! Thanks for your work, I’ve done some other topic content and I know it is taxing. I’m coming back after some years. Your advice is great. Please do make more content when you can. 👍🏼
I used the pocket prep app to take the NCE and I passed with flying colors, it was SUPER helpful and made the test feel familiar! I’m am using it for the NCMHCE and I hope it’s as helpful
UPDATE: If you do not pass NCMHCE, you only have to wait 30 days as opposed to the previous 90 days requirement. Verify and confirm for yourself, as always.
Thank you for all of your insights and recommendations! I take the exam in September. Just finished going through the. material on counselingexam but am sort of overwhelmed about how to proceed, other than doing the practice narratives and exams. I feel like I need a review of what I just consumed! Excited to check out these resources.
I get it, it is so much to take in! I would start refreshing on the DSM (as boring as that can be) that majorly helped me to do well on the practice exams. Best of luck!
@@allyssapowers Thank you so much! Will do. Also, I've downloaded Quizlet and am loving it. It's so stimulating and I'm actually retaining stuff. Wouldn't have thought to try it out were it not for this video, so thank you again, seriously!!!
Hi again, just an update - I realized some of the material covered in Quizlet is from the DSM-IV, for example substance abuse, substance dependence, and mental retardation. Thought you'd be interested in that info!
@@J.B.nzurij know all your theories and counseling attributes. These mirrors counseling exam and clinical exam workshop. Also counseling exam has a podcast you should listen to
Hi. Congratulations on motherhood. I hope it's going smoothly and you're enjoying every moment of it. I have a question regarding Quizlet. It's seems a little unorganized. For instance, the Mometrix book goes through each subject you should study. Quizlet doesn't. Is there a starting point you think we should start from?
I know it can be a little chaotic on Quizlet, I would start with whatever your weakest topics are...for me I needed to refresh my memory on the differences on diagnosis that were very similar such as the eating disorder, personality disorders and anxiety disorders.
I did attempt this new format online in Dec 2022. I had an issue part way in (my keyboard froze 45 min into the four hour test),. I was unable to resolve it and it was deemed “my fault” so that was a very expensive “practice test” and lesson learned! When you sign up for that, you pretty much waive all rights for errors. They will not reschedule you if anything goes wrong. So…..I’m paid up agains and back in line. This time I will drive and get a hotel so I can take it in a testing center!
In Ohio its after 2 years and a specific amount of hours worked you can take it to get your "second C". I would check the California board website just to be sure.
Yes! Once you have accrued the 3,000 hours as an associate counselor you get your hours approved through the board, apply to take the NCMHCE, and once passed you become an LPCC in CA!
@@holisticjess Okay so it's the same test whether I am taking it here or in another state right? Same subject matter? Is that so it will make it easier for counselors to work in other states someday w/o having to retake the test over and over in each state?
@@sherisevalentygibb Each state test requirement is different! Also different states require different courses obtained from a Master's program, it's very annoying. You can look online and check what you need for each state to become licensed.
I would love to hear your experience being a mom and a therapist. How do you schedule clients? Also, do you think it is possible to have a balanced pregnancy while doing my 3000 internship hours? Or should I wait till I become a fully licensed LMHC? I am turning 31 and want to have kids already! haha
Hmm that is such a personal decision, but I will say getting your hours and going through internship is very time intensive, it would be hard to be pregnant during that time. In a perfect world yes, I would do that first and then have a baby, but these decisions to start a family are often more heart than head decisions and only you know what you intuition is telling you!
Yes the whole thing is...I would go to the counseling exam website I have linked below and look at the free practice exam, it is the exact same format as the exam!
@@clarenzbustamante I am not sure, I know on the NCE you could flag questions and go back, since these are case studies it might be different...maybe someone else in the comments who has taken it recently could chime in...I couldn't find the answer on the NBCC website either.
I’m confused, how come this video is about exam prep isn’t the whole grad program about that? Sorry for asking such a noob question but I legit am confused
So the ncmhce is the test you take to get your lpcc so you are out of school for two years once you take it. The NCE is the test you take after you graduate and the first 6 or so classes are meant to prep you for that. Hope that makes sense!
Oh, I didn't realize that. I thought the graduate program itself was designed to teach and prepare you for the exam. So, it seems that the graduate program focuses on teaching you how to be a therapist, while exam preparation is a separate course entirely.

Why are people taking NCE & NHMCHE both? In MN it is one or the other never both?? I keep Reading or hearing references to take both
You take the NCE first then after you get your hours and you have had your LPC for at least 2 years you take the NHMCHE to become independent LPCC.
