Are these active duty ROK troops, or are they re-enactors? i have to wonder what is the source for the movements of these troops, I can imagine the weapons would be known from historical artifacts & & the costumes could be known from historic representations. I am doubtful of how they would know the movements of the troops from that time.
It's an reenactment. Seoul city recruits several workers for this part-time job. Joseon Dynasty(former state of ROK) left a massive amount of documents describing national events in form of paintings. These documents are called Ui-gwe(儀軌)s. We referred to these documents a lot.
I see people are taking pictures with the guards. Doesn't that disturb the ceremony? Are tourists informed when they are allowed to take pictures standing next to the guards?
Yes, you can pretty much take pictures anytime and they did announce that at a certain point, we could walk right up to the guards and take photos and film them, which I obviously did.
It will be the same people that will carry Prince's George's bride and in 30 years you'll see them in Buckingham Palace when Prince George gets married.
That is up to the Seoul Metropolitan Police and the Army's Capital Defense Command. This gate and the plaza are within walking distance of the Presidential Palace, so the security is reinforced there at all times, also because the US embassy is on this very plaza.

yun hyuk 저는 오히려 총으로 무장하지 않아서 더욱 전통적이고 신선하게 느껴지네요. 총에 익숙한 외국인들이 보기에는 활이랑 칼로 무장한게 더 멋있어 보일거에요 :))
