All my respect from Brazil ! Cuba was the greater volleyball team of all the times. Mireya , yulmika Ruiz , they always were the best , the they are inspirations to all those people love and play volleyball. I hope some day I get to see Cuba playing as well as Brazil, China, USA, Serbia and Russia. I love Nancy Carrillo , I love Calderon, I love carcase . They could play in Cuba team, unfortunately it isn't possible now, but Cuba will return to make show in the stadium again, I hope they will ! The new generation !

I was really young, but they play against brazil (my country) and everybody in brazil felt the rivalry with cuba in women's volleyball. But inside I was admiring how intense cuba's team was, even when they play against brazil.

These two were arch-rivals, 90's to early 2000. They have the most epic players that time- Torres, Bell, Ruiz, Fernandes, Aguero in Cuba, and Russia has Artamonova, Chachkova, Godina and Titchtenko

This team was my fav. Thank you Cuba for a wonderful 3peat. This volleyball era will be missed. I mean Russia the undefeated team and Brazil great competitor also China and Japan were all worthy to win GOLD even team USA.
Japan? Really? I don't think so...In the 90's only Brazil, Russian Federation and China were able to affront Cuban style of play. Those 4 nations were at the top. A second line were integrated by USA, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Germany & South Korea. Good examples are that in the 90's all the major events have always any of those 3 teams fighting for gold against Cuba. The best that Japan could do those years are 5th place.

perfect team... their setters do not only set about also attacks.. they have very strong floor defense so they don't need to have a libero on the floor...all the players are strong and really contribute a lot...

I cried when Brazil lost the title in Rio to Cuba. Those Cuban players were from another new generation of Cuban players, but they were super lioness , they never went to war to lose a battle . I loved when Cuban team provokes Brazil team. But I love even more when Brazil get to overcome Cuban team. After 4 you years of Brazilian was overcomed by Cubans, in Guadalajara we got overcome Cuban , and those players were the same players that played in Rio hahahahaha

Allen Jann that’s right. What made it more difficult for the Russian blockers to read because the Cuban setters are also opposite spikers and can hit the ball really hard.
That was the great Taismary Aguero. She went on to become an Opposite Spiker for the Italian Team.

Perú? I don't think so. Perhaps you forgot that Cuba was 2nd at World's 1986 and World Cup Champion in 1989. If Cuba would assist to Seul, the FINAL game for the gold medal would be CUBA vs URSS or mayba China but NOT Perú. That Cuban team beat Perú in the Pan Am Games in Indianapolis 1987. That Cuban team beat Perú in the World Championship held in 1986.
They had a chance in 2004 and 2008 too. I love them so much!

Incredible team! I'm still not over that Cuba 3x2 Brazil in the semifinals in 1996. Awful loss for us, Brazilians, but the Cubans back then were simply the best. Hopefully Brazil can repeat Cuba and win the 3rd gold in Rio.

just like to ask, if cuba dominated the 90s, was there a time when Russia/USSR dominated the sport also? i always hear it from my vball coach in highschool that USSR/Russia was a force to be reckoned with in volleyball. Thanks. God bless!
