Words can not describe how much this game was a part of the saddest and happiest times of my childhood. I was 9 when my dad passed away but that year he bought me the N64 and Ocarina of time. I never really played it because it was too difficult to me. After my dad passed away I made it my goal to complete the game 100%. I played for hours and hours each day. Not only did it take away the pain of losing my dad each time I played it brought back the happy memories I had with him. To this day whenever I think of this game it just brings memories and tears of happiness. I know for a lot of people this game was a defining moment of their childhood. Whenever you play ocarina of time, each time it just brings you back to that exact time of your life when you first played it. No other game has ever done that for me

This comment will probably go unnoticed but I felt like sharing it with you anyway. I see so many comments in here talking rather somberly about missing their childhoods. While I understand that it's not always easy breezey to be an adult, I think being adult actually becomes more of a holistic and worthwhile experience when we actively keep our inner child alive and well. I don't think it's at all necessary to silence or abandon your inner childlike spirit in the slightest. Sleep a little longer, play videogames you've always loved and enjoyed, breathe deep and allow yourself the things you like and live more in the moment. See your childhood and your childlike spirit as something to protect, not to neglect. Not unlike what Link goes through in Ocarina of Time.

My girlfriend and I played through this game this year! She surprised me with an N64 packaged with Starfox 64 and Ocarina of Time for my birthday. One of my earliest memories is playing Majora’s Mask at my Aunts house, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or where I was going, but I loved every second of it, the sense of adventure. I had no prior nostalgia towards this game, and yet the experience was so profoundly positive. Getting eaten by Jabu Jabu, going on a scavenger hunt for the Bigoron Sword, slogging through the water temple, So many amazing moments. Best birthday gift ever!

I remember getting this game in junior high, I didn't have a lot of friends, overweight, and just kept to myself a lot. I had told my mom and sister that I wanted this game, and when I got back home they were away. Around 6pm is when they got back, looking tired and drained, but they gave me this game for my birthday. They told me it was the last one near us, and had to drive 2 hours away to pick it up. I remember playing all night, and this song just brings back that memory. I'm 18 soon to be 19, about to enter college. My mother passed away last year, but I'm glad she got me this. I miss you mom.
Edit: thank you all for your kind words. For those saying its fake, I wish it was but sadly it isn't. My mother passed away August 22nd, 2020 3:30am after suffering tachycardia and 4 strokes. She was brain dead when she died. Also, she got me the 3ds version, and I will always cherish the memory my mother allowed me to have. Thank you all again, and live a long and happy life, and enjoy your loved ones as much as possible or you'll end up like me, regretting not cherishing my mother and what she was willing to do for me.

I'm not a critic or a nostalgia nerd I've always kept an open mind and heart to new games and I'll admit some have mechanics that far surpass this game but this game will always be my favorite

I was 23 when this came out. The N64 is without a doubt the console I had the most fun playing games on. This game took me a long time to finish, I was busy in my early to mid 20's and had at one point just carried on thinking I would never finish it. Then, I had a close friend pass away and I remember someone saying something about finishing an old project or something to help with the coping. So I pulled out the N64, OOT and the walkthrough book and a week or so later I was done. It was in that moment I felt my childhood and adolescence was complete (I was probably 26 or 27). Despite all the trials and successes and failures, I knew I could walk into the future with confidence and closure of all that I would then be leaving behind. It was to me truly a rite of passage. This game saw me through a lot of growth in my life and like everyone else here it will always hold a special place in my heart and my memories and my life and the best video game music ever.

When Young Link walks away from the Master Sword in the pedestal of time... To me that's the most meaningful moments in all of gaming. The Hero of Time.
Entrusted to a village as a baby after his mother's early death. Grows to be a care free child that suddenly is forced to grow up into an adult before even getting to experience their childhood. Stolen innocence by a cruel and unforgiving world, but destined to do so. He who saved this world that would unknownfully later be destroyed again, returns to his childhood to prevent his own mistakes. In doing so he removes the glory that was rightfully his just so that there would be peace in Hyrule.
He saved Sacred Hyrule twice from Ganondorf by traveling aside Time and drove Darkness into the Light, rescued a parallel-world "Termina" from Majora. Termina was created through the Hero's OWN subconscious mind, to conquer many fears. For the rest of his life onward he lived a normal life as a Hylian Guard after giving up with failure on his search for the beloved Navi.
    He died lamenting.
After his life his spirit helped his descendant save Hyrule and the Twilight realm and still got absolutely no credit. The Hero of Time is the most epic, courageous, and humble characters in all of gaming. Remember The Hero of Time.

I remember playing this on the 64 with my big brother when we were very young. Now we’re in our mid/late 20s and the family fell apart and we don’t talk to each other anymore. But when I hear this soundtrack and close my eyes everything is back to normal. I’m with my brother. My parents still love each other. Our oldest brother is still alive. I look back at my childhood and I feel like I’m looking at someone else’s memories. That’s how distant I feel from my home that I can never return to. This song captures the idea of time unexpectedly passing in such haunting accuracy and beauty.

What most people don't realize is that video games can heal you. They represent a fantasy world where the player can feel important, strong, unyielding, accomplished. They allow us to escape from reality where things can be grim and ugly like a drug. They give you a sense of control and safety that no one can take from you. I remember being Link, just wanting to save the world and make everyone happy, just wanting to be him, a hero, ridding myself of my sadness with the help of a beautiful artistic heavenly world.

I remember my family moving to a new town and I’d cry all the time. We went from a huge house to a tiny apartment and the only escape I had was this game. It was so magical and vast. I identified with Young Link being forced out of the life he knew and seeing how cool Adult Link was made me want to be brave. What a strange time, but an exciting one. My mom was so patient with me and she appreciated the way this game would comfort me. She remembers all the sound effects and when I play this again around the holidays she’s nostalgic for it too.
Unlike Link, we can’t jump back in time, but we cherish our childhoods and look back on those versions of ourselves like a supportive understanding parent would. That kid was just scared, but not anymore.
Hope you all have a great day and may the desire for new adventures shine brighter as we grow.

As a 6 year old girl I loved watching my older brother play The Legend of Zelda. I always wanted to play it but never got the chance. I just hooked up our Nintendo64 and I’m currently playing. The songs are bringing so many good memories back. Pure joy. I’m now 15, the same age my brother was when he first played and I watched. :,)

When i was smaller, i remember watching my dad play video games. But ocarina of time-it was just different. I remember the excitement id feel when id hear the opening music. Id dash up the stairs to my father and watch him play. Timeskip-after he'd one day bought a nintendo switch for himself, i was around ten years old, it came with a mario game and a game that sounded nostalgic to me. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild". It was like my younger self all over again, watching him play zelda games on the nintendo. I decided to play breath of the wild myself. After that, i grew a large attachment to this series. Not even a year later, he left, which was definitely for the better. But now i have memories to hold onto. Ive bought skyward sword, played the original zelda game and the adventure of link a little, planning on investing in twilight princess, and ocarina of time. This soundtrack will always hold a special place in my heart. I am now 13, turning 14 this year and i will never forget how this series affected me. Thank you nintendo, for not only blessing me with this heart welling series, but making me experience one of the only times id feel like a child...Nintendo games. Having to act adult-like at such a young age is so hard. But there is sometimes a way to truly let out that childish side. To me, Nintendo did more than that. Thank you, once again.

Nothing is better than listening to this melody on a rainy night outside. Specifically this song and the entire game have a strong tug on my heart. I was born too late into the 2000’s (2006) to be old enough to comprehend and understand the game when it launched, but I remember watching my older cousin play this game when I was around 6 or 7 years old. He’s now going into his senior year in college. With all that being said, I’m glad most people are still holding on to this game because it truly is a treasure and one of the best things Nintendo has/will ever create in my heart.

Every time i listen to this song i suddenly feel so sad...i don't know why but i'm also happy to hear it again...even if i'm more sad than happy...i was a child who watched their siblings and dad playing The Legend of Zelda, i wasn't old enough to understand the story but i was always happy and curious to see them playing...I would really love to be able to play with them...we don't play anymore as much as we used to, everyone seem to be busy or don't care, well i still play but i feel lonely...Now we are playing Tears of the Kingdom but is not the same...i still feel lonely...but i'm happy, we finally can play a Zelda game together! Finally i understand better the story and the things to do! Now i'm not the slow one! I'm not someone who can only watch! I'm a player!

@Anthony Zorrilla hahaha yeah, it feels like the devs went in-depth into very precise ideas for specific feelings and emotions for the music... in a way that feels like those feelings just directly connect with real-life memories, and powerful ones at that. Still the best game in the world... Ocarina of Time... play it one day, when you're ready to finish a big, long story... if you wish

    • @preacher.r1811
      @preacher.r1811 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Anthony Zorrilla very true... a lot of thought goes into some of the best games, more than money could really afford most times... I like LoZ games cause many songs have to be learned in-game to complete steps in quests, and the game usually has one of the characters teach some knowledge that relates to the song's feelings at the time of showing the song's name, and playing it with your controller buttons... it's a great idea to interact physically, mentally, and emotionally with your audience as a game dev, and the wisdom is intensely life bettering, especially as a younger person.
Like, try this example, from in-game speech, learning the song required in the Fire Temple.
“It is something that grows over time... a true friendship. A feeling in the heart that becomes even stronger over time.
The passion of friendship will soon blossom into a righteous power and through it, you will know which way to go.
This song is dedicated to the power of the heart... Listen to the Bolero of Fire.”

+lurkerinthedarkness Even if you've played MM, TP, WW and the others (guilty xD) there's this certain appeal to Ocarina....something that always pulls you back....I even found a weird glitch [def no lie] where I went to Jabu Jabu's resting place as an adult, you know the alcove you have there? Stand there when the Sun's out and look to the left (First person wise). Tell me what you see in the forest....Cause I saw something with three golden points....
Ocarina of Time - Best game I have ever played.....well.....ever =D

      Andy Studer
don't know why I made such a stupid statement there. Of course everyone has his own opinion on this matter.
What made MM stand out for me was the gameplay. Swiming and diving as a Zora was mindblowing, like they knew what I wished for after OoT.

I will never forget the day I was hanging out with probably my closest friend. He had this game on the 3ds, and I was curious about it. He didn’t usually let me use his things, but after an hour of begging, he finally let me try the game. I played the game for only 10 minutes and had already fallen in love with it. I begged my dad to let me purchase it once I had a 3ds, and he bought it for me on my birthday. I’ve played this game to completion so many times, and I truly love the story, the characters, but most of all, the music. I don’t get to see my friend as much anymore, as he is in high school now. I was 5 back then, now I’m almost 14. It’s been 9 years. 9 long, incredible, and fun years.

it's honestly incredible that koji kondo managed to perfectly capture that feeling of childhood wonder
considering that link being forced to mature faster than necessary is a core theme, and that he can never return to his childhood. it's incredibly fitting and also a little sad

***** You're just like Link, who was sleeping for 7 years in the temple of time. It would have been funny if you stopped at the master sword.

It's because the game aged well. A lot of the time we feel nostalgia for something, and when we go back, it's not quite as great as we remember. But take the Zelda OOT challenge. Go back and play it. It's even better now. The graphics are still great. I'll take it over any PS4 game that exists.

To this day I literally (and I mean literally) get goosebumps every single time I load the game and get into the title screen.
It's ridiculous the power the whole of this games holds over the memories of so many of us.

As a kid my dad used to play this on the wii and me and my brother would watch him and wonder wtf this game is, now my parents are divorced and I haven’t seen my dad in a while but this song will always bring me comfort and joy as it takes me back to the time where we were all a happy family with no care in the world . This game truly is a masterpiece…….

When i first started i couldn't even get past the forest temple. i never found the bow. didn't stop me from winning the fire temple and got to the point in the water temple where you needed the bow in order to shoot one of the eye things. although can't really blame me cause i was 4 at the time.

mattimeo12345 You got that far when you were 4? Nice job.I was playing this game at about that age (I started at 3 [named myself "no", the only word I knew how to spell]), and for about... 3 years(?), I never even went into Jabu-Jabu's belly. It just scared me too much.
