originally in the very beginning there were supposed to be 17 members, however only 13 ended up debuting. now it is said that they are called seventeen because: there's THREE units (hip hop, performance, vocal) + THIRTEEN members + ONE team = seventeen

i read somewhere that it's actually because Pledis was planning to debut boys whose ages average to 17 at that time but the supposed 17 members reason is more popular

Actually Pledis didn't obsessed with the number "17" that much, they did want to debut a group of 17 boys but the line up never go to that number, Pledis didn't push hard to get that number though. On the contrary, Pledis has very high demands on trainees and their training program is one of the scariest among the companies, in survival shows, the trainees from Pledis are always very talented and outstanding.
It was 13 of them most talented, most hard working, most patient,... share the same dream to stay at last, that's why we have 13 members now.
They actually never got to 17 trainees. Pledis were very meticulous when it comes to their trainees. Their training was hard but they're actually very great at honing their soon to be artists (though they suck at promoting them). The reason why SEVENTEEN got stable vocals despite the hard choreos, is undeniably partly thanks to Pledis' training back then.
But indeed, some trainees who were supposed to debut in SVT either were suspended or dropped by the company because they did something, left coz they needed to pursue something else, or left because they were too young (Samuel).
But overall, SEVENTEEN was meant to be 13. And we're super glad that they are. They've been 13 since they debuted and are still 13 up to now. 💖
So about Super's title and what it means, "Super" is the English title for it, but the original title is "Son O-Gong" / Sonogong, which is the Korean name of Sun Wu Kong (Chinese) & Son Goku (Japanese). Originally, Sun Wu Kong is the Monkey King from the Chinese folktale "Journey to The West". Dragon Ball is an anime based on Sun Wu Kong, that's why the main character is Son Goku (Japanese name for Sun Wu Kong).
In Super, they use references to both the original story and even use references from Dragon Ball. For example, they use Goku's Instant Transmission/Shunkan Ido move and Kamehameha move as their dance move. The lyrics also mentions Sun Wu Kong's flying cloud and pole. They also mention "This is a cartoon's credit song" in the lyrics.
If you're wondering what's the correlation between Sonogong and the song's meaning itself, Sonogong is known to be really ambitious and never gives up, and his friends and companions are also always a big part of the tale. He never gives up, and with his determination and his companions, he always manages to find victory.
That's why in the verses they talk about not letting go if the future, and at the beginning of every chorus they say "Feels like I'm turning into Sonogong", and then they repeat "I love my team, I love my crew, it's all thanks to you."
So I think it relfects the message that, it's all because of you (their team) that I can be the main character and achieve anything ^^
Oh and as to why the English translates to Super, I'm not sure why either, but there are 3 possibilites that I could think of. First, Dragon Ball has the series Super Dragon Ball Z, second, Goku can turn Super Saiyan (his strongest mode), and third, maybe it's because it can replace the meaning or symbolism of Sonogong, especially in the lyrics where "Sonogong" is directly mentioned, like "Feels like I'm turning into Sonogong" becomes "Feels like I'm becoming Super". I don't know if that makes sense or not, but that's what I thought :D

The darumdarimda is just onomatepoeia and Sono-gong is the korean version of Sun Wu Kong, the monkey king from chinese mythology. Additiinally, the FML MV contained loads of references to the Truman Show about not knowing if anything is real and having everybody watching you when you think you're alone.
i'm so glad that you liked rock with you because their usual sound is that. (btw i know other carat's will explain you better but i just wanted to summarize a little. they are known for their beautiful choreos - which usually one of the members (hoshi) participates in making them- , their synchronizations and they self produce all of their songs too -mostly woozi but other members contribute too >-< my english is not that good so im gonna stop here but their lives are literally the best ones, they are so talented im so glad you decided to react them and actually enjoyed their songs ehe)

Don't wanna cry, Home, Hit & Fear I personally think are the most popular SEVENTEEN songs. Those songs were actually how I even found out about the group, But yeah I recommend those. I think it would be easier to listen to their most popular title tracks and then go from there. Loved the video btw!! And I hope whatever is happening in your life gets better! 💓

Meaning of Hot: its their embodiment of their ambition to face the sun and overcome the heat they face along the way/
Meaning of Rock with You: they are basically saying that they know that they took the ones they loved for granted and that from now on they will stand by their side and face everything together
Meaning of 손오공 (pronounced Son-o-Gong) English name is Super: Son-O-Gong is the Monkey king also known as Goku (like from Dragonball). The song talks about their love for their crew/team and that when they work together and share their ambitions they become super human like Son-O-Gong. Also "Darumdarimda" doesnt mean anything its like a magic word they used... equivalent to our Abracadabra.
Meaning of FML: They explained in a few interviews that the name has multiple meanings. It is F*ck my Life but also Fight for My Life and Find My Life. They are basically saying that you should never give up and fight for yourself.

Rock with You is one of my favorites too. It's always a joy to watch someone discover these guys. As you can see & hear, their songs cover a variety of genres. They debuted in 2015 and most were together in training 2-4 years before that. (quite different from the west) They are committed to each other and to good music and it could take you a long time to give each song a listen. There's lots of hidden gems. Can’t go wrong with anyone’s recommendations but two of my personal favs are “Thanks” and “Fallin Flower”
You really chose a great sampling of songs to react to amongst recent Seventeen songs - HOT is something fairly different from a lot of Seventeen songs as is Super (손오공 - Sonogong is the Korean title, as they kept saying in the chorus "feels like I turned into Sonogong" but Super IS the English title for the track), but I do feel like Rock With You and FML are very representative of a more core part of Seventeen's sound - although, while they have a lot of very lyrically powerful songs like FML, not as many that sit in a more painful place for as much of a song as this one does. I remember when I first heard it I felt like this is such an important song to exist in this world.
I saw some good recommendations for you from other carats, I hope to see more Seventeen reactions from you (I haven't checked yet to see if you have more already)

The reason I think Lonely and Rock With You are similar is the way the feelings of these lyrics are so in tune with their music/sound counterpart. That's why it sounds so good. I hope you keep on watching and reacting to TXT and SVT (not that I limit you to these two only). It's just that they really have a lot of good songs and content. It will be fun when you start reacting to other content such as their variety shows (Going Seventeen for SVT and TO DO for TXT). But for now, I recommend watching Seventeen's Killing Voice. It's one way to listen to snippets of their songs.
Awww.. B1A4 lonely is really an old & very good song... that's so nice reminder w rock w you.. I think later releases of Seventeen were mostly experimental.. They are known for having lively,upbeat & just full of positive vibes ,if that's ur taste of music.. you will enjoy their previous songs...
as its hard to choose just one bias out of Seventeen I have 5 biases and they are Woozi (he is my main bias out of the 5), S.Coups, Joshua, Hoshi and Vernon.
they each bring something different for me and I have been a carat aka fan ever since I first heard ' don't wanna cry'.
also when Hot was released I was so obsessed with hat sing (still am) as I had it on repeat non stop0, also f*ck my life is just so relatable to me and to others as well.
I HIGHLY recommend “Fear”, “Hit”, “Good to me” (it’s a side track song but it’s good and has a dance practice so you can watch the dance and listen) , and “Hit” they are my ULT boy group

I love seventeen some much they are my 2nd ult group after BTS BUT i know of the for a while but when rock with you came out i knew i had to learn them then maybe 6 month later there are a ult group love them so much wonderful personality's. very synchronized group i mean ever little detail in a song.
