Eric, I started learning violin in my 60s and I am now on Suzuki book 7. I take private lessons. I cannot get the hang of vibrato, and cannot figure what is wrong. I can do all of the exercises, but it doe not transfer into vibrato. It is very uncomfortable and it seems impossible.
Hello Eric, I have 2 questions regarding vibrato - 1 - I started learning vibrato last year, starting from higher position, while supporting my wrist on the body of the violin. And then gradually replicating the motion without support. But, while trying vibrato without the support, I've realised that now the weight of the violin is supported more on my shoulder and neck, while earlier my left hand used to support the violin also. This is now causing me shoulder pain after doing vibrato. I want to know do you support the violin with your left hand during vibrato? 2 - I have no problem doing vibrato with my index finger. But, I feel locked when attempting index finger vibrato on g and d string (especially the G string). This is causing tension in my wrist. How do you approach wrist vibrato with index finger on g string??
part of my problem, as well, as stated above. It just seems impossible to me and very uncomfortable While I can do all of the exercises, it has not transferred into vibrato.
I love Eric how you “ break it down.” Particularly using Boomerang term. Very very applicable. Thanks
You're welcome!
