Savarkar was secular atheist freedom fighter but after his experience in Kalapani jail in Andaman where Pathan and Punjabi Muslim jailers were converting non Muslims by starving of food and later converting by offering food he became right wing activist with Hinduism culture as supreme for Akhand Bharata. He coined the termed Hindutva and is ideological father of RSS and its offspring BJP which is ruling party today.

The term Hindutva was coined by CHANDRANATH BOSE ( a contemporary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay); and it was popularised by Veer Savarkar
My too cents…we need to stop calling revolutionaries controversial. that’s because of our own history, where the Congress during the Surat session, declared a moderate faction as mainstream and declared all the revolutionaries radical for a reason. That was to finish off the revolutionary movement at the behest of the British and gain control of the freedom struggle. And ultimately render it in effective .Most of the Congress moderates were in cushy government jobs, and wanted to keep them. revolutionaries were made out to be controversial and violent though they did not do anything controversial.Defending oneself when attacked is not controversial it’s a natural reaction. Offering the other cheek when attacked is abnormal and controversial as to where and who benefits from this kind of brainwashing
