THIS REMINDS US MAESTRO-SUPREME UDAY SHANKAR - HER FATHER BELOVED - WHO HAD CARRIED CHANDALIKA (IN EXCERPT, I BELIEVE) OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE AROUND THE GLOBE, SOME TIME AROUND 1936-37. A VERY OLD GEM RECORDING (1937?) ALSO EXISTS (AS AN LP LATER) WHERE THE MELIFLUOUS SINGING VOICE OF THE MAESTRO-SUPREME UDAY SHANKAR IS HEARD.
Where can I see this dance drama in its entirety? I watched mamata di in Calcutta in a performance beside dhakuria lake. Her performance along with her troupe was simply out of this world. I watched spellbound and wished that it would never end.

The focus has sadly shifted from dance to glitters of costumes, lights, ornaments and stage production. This is not how Uday Shankar envisaged it. Where is the grand beauty of simplicity? The flow of dance? The fluidity of body structure and form? Where is that magnetism we see in all the dances of Kalpana? This is a half-hearted effort, heavily dependent on the glamour of production. The costumes used in Kalpana, for instance, the grandeur of movement, the grace of simplicity, and incorporation of various indigenous dance forms can be held as a benchmark for all the future productions by Shankar dance company.
