How Strong is a Fiddlerman Carbon Fiber Bow?

Instead of rehairing one of my fiddlerman carbon fiber bows I decided to test it's strength out of curiousity. I was pleasantly please to discover how tough they really are. Not aware that I was shooting a video my wife informs me that we need to leave in 10 minutes which I thought was hilarious so I left it on the video. :-)

Fiddlerman, you are truly a gem amongst all string-playing communities online. I have been an avid watcher of your videos and, while I've played the violin for over a decade, I still find great information on fundamentals and on these unspeakable questions like snapping a bow in two. The products on your shop are amazingly priced (I don't know how you even make a profit on some of them!) and sometimes I wish I didn't have my professional violin so I could pick up one of your soloist violins. (I am looking at those concert violas though so hopefully soon...). Anyways, just wanted to throw some tremendous praise for your honest, down-to-earth, and fair business as well as your incredibly beneficial TH-cam page. Amidst a community filled with people trying to constantly raise prices and take every last dollar, you've somehow managed to keep your integrity and humility above all else. Best to you and I hope to snag that viola soon!
Thanks so much for your super kind words. We make enough profit to make a living and our philosophy of selling more by being honest and reasonable has been working very well for us.:) Whenever we can pass the profit over to the consumer we want to do that. No obligations at all! I have been eyeing an improved viola but didn't want to invest a large amount of money on an instrument type I, admittedly, am not too familiar in the particulars of. I really can't believe how good the concert violas are!
Right now I play locally in Sacramento, CA. A buddy of mine and I formed a duo doing folkloric Americana. Used to play as a concert master in a local college orchestra but those orchestra days are behind me. Too much time and dedication! :)
If you get a chance, I would love if you check out my violin. It's a very strange and unique design made by a modern luthier in Germany named Arthur Bay. Really innovative design as the sound post goes through the actual face of the instrument and the entire face is made of maple rather than spruce. Particularly, I recommend the video titled "Fearless Leader - Gypsy Ways (Nokia Lumia Icon Test)" as it's just a solo of the instrument itself.

I'm similar to you in that I wouldn't want to waste by destroying a perfectly good bow. This one was over a year old and needed a rehair. Re-hairing a bow cost almost as much as a new one. :) Thanks for watching!

I use my Jan Larsson that was custom made for me in Sweden over 20 years ago. But if I would choose one from Fiddlershop, I'd be happy to play the Cremona Kreisler or the Soloist!

Your idea about a 3/4 is actually a good one. Besides the sound there are so many benefits especially when your hand is small. It is possible to find exceptionally good 7/8 and 3/4 violins.
Very true, That would have definitely added some dynamic to the whole thing. It was kind of spontaneous. I was going to just toss the bow but decided that I could do some experimenting first. LOL

Thank you, we realize the sacrifice in quality sound. Maybe I could just loan her a 3/4 and see what she thinks. She working on Bach Double Conc., so she not just a beginner, just having awful time with this hand, which is also small, also. Thanks for your help. Also, for the Fiddlerman's Carbon bow. A stand partner loaned me one for a concert and I was impressed. My good bow is too expensive to play outside, so think your bow would be great. Thanks - Kay
Hi fiddlerman, do you rate carbon fibre violins?
I’m left handed so having a wooden violin made and a decent one at that costs a bomb. I’ve heard both types of violin side by side and sound quality wise it’s hard to hear that difference for me anyways.
Would add a little context to also beat a standard Brazil wood bow on the counter and also bend the wood bow to breaking point. Need a basis to compare visually.

OK, I'm sold. I went to your site, but couldn't locate your bow. Please can you direct me. Also, I have a student who has a damaged left hand and I was thinking of her buying one of your 3/4 size student violins (she has a 4/4 nice violin, which need lots of expensive work). My thoughts were that she could learn to play much easier, if her had hand was relaxed. What do you think? I haven't heard what your 3/4 violins are like. Thanks

According to my research. Carbon bows have around the same durability. And the same time it's lighter than. A wooden bow.

Don't cry..... I chose a bow that had an issue with the frog. :) We couldn't fix or sell it.

She could be more relaxed but she'll have to get used to smaller intervals. 3/4 violins in general do not have as good quality sound.

@@MonkeyExhibition - the frog and hair were defective. Could be fixed but sometimes it's cheaper to just get a new one.
