Since you made a video on her not too long ago, I wouldn't be surprised if Casey Anthony is in the top 10. One of the biggest videos of my channel is on Susan Smith and A LOT of people bashed Susan's "crying". Seriously, "mothers" like Susan Smith, Diane Downs, Casey Anthony and others can burn in hell!
Louise Turpin. No, none of the children died. But to suffer through all that neglect while the parents went on spending sprees; being chained, starved, and no ability to bathe; etc...that made me sick. I saw the 2 hour special with the 2 daughters and it made me cry.
I can’t hear about Gabriel Fernandez without wanting to cry. What this poor boy went through was heartbreaking! He wasn’t just failed by his mother but the whole damn system!
My God, the Netflix documentary about Gabriel is simply gut wrenching 😢 Can’t even imagine what that sweet baby went through…and yet he still loved his mom, right to the end! R.I.P. Little Angel
If I ever saw evidence of abuse on a friend or a child I know, I don’t care if I’d get in trouble, I’d tell them they could stay at my house so they would be safe
I know some details of the story but I can't bring myself to watch the Netflix documentary. I know it's going to be really sad and I'll probably cry. I can't handle child abuse. It's too heartbreaking to hear about.
It’s not just Gabriel Fernandez because child abuse isn’t taken really seriously sometimes Other notable victims of abuse include Anthony Avalos (A ten-year-old American boy who was tortured and killed after being beaten and suffering internal bleeding from his parents) Judith Barsi (A ten year old child actress who was also a victim of severe child abuse by her father and her mother was also abused and both were murdered) Lydia Schatz (A 7-year-old American child of Liberian origins who was killed in 2010 by her adoptive parents in an attempt to discipline her.) And Riley Ann Sawyer (A two-year-old American girl who was beaten to death by her mother Kimberly Dawn Trenor and her mother's partner Royce Zeigler in a filicide.) There’s also Marina Sabatier (An 8 year old girl living in France who was abused and murdered by her parents)
Postpardum is no joke. I had it severely after my son was born, didn't know what was happening to me. Never hurt my son but I did hurt myself and ended up in the hospital. The doctor explained to me what was wrong with me and why I had been slowly losing my mind for months, I got the help I needed and learned a very valuable lesson. The lesson is to not be afraid to get help or ask for it, and not to have the mindset it will just work itself out or go away.
I feel you. I’ve been suffering from it for 3 years. Even to the point of postpartum psychosis. I think I’m ready to get some help because I have things to do

I will forever be angry that Andrea Yates’s husband was not held liable for leaving their children home alone with her after repeatedly being warned that she was a danger to them because he “didn’t want her to become totally dependent on others” to take care of their children.
Amen!! It's prob an unpopular opinion, but I think he was more guilty than she was. Post partum psychosis is way worse than post partum depression. It's a full on psychotic break. She needed help so bad and her husband, doctors and support system totally failed her. Her doctor took her off medication that was helping her, rusty was told NOT to leave her alone with the kids but decided "half an hour would be fine" until his mother got there....I feel a lot of compassion for Andrea. She's close to where I live and it's said she refuses to attempt getting released because she doesn't feel like she deserves it after what happened. Rusty will hopefully get what he deserves. The interviews I've seen of Rusty scream "narcissistic asshole" to me. He makes my skin crawl.
@@nyxspiritsong5557 - My unpopular opinion is that she isn’t the same as the other “mothers” on this list. Yes, what she did was horrific, but she was legitimately mentally ill and it’s well documented. Her husband kept her at home with 5 kids aged 7 and under with little to no support because in his eyes it was her job. He denied her birth control and psych meds she needed because his religion wouldn’t allow birth control and the psych meds would be bad for a baby if she got pregnant again. He disregarded EVERYTHING the doctors told him about her illness because he thought he knew better. And he had the nerve to do interviews at the time of her trial talking about when this is over and she gets better she can come home and we can have more kids. I hate that he’s just out and about living his life like 5 kids aren’t dead because he had to have his way instead of listening to the doctors.
@@momojojo590 100 % agree. The interviews I've watched also pissed me off at her doctors. One literally told her she just needed to "think positive"... this was AFTER her first psychotic break. She was doing well on the Risperdal and the doctor took her off of it because RUSTY wanted her to... everything about that piece of shit pisses me off. I still don't understand how he wasn't at the very least charged with child endangerment.... they were specifically told not to leave her alone with the kids... he disobeyed that because he thought he knew better than an actual doctor, then he gets to walk away Scott free.... of course he then divorces Andrea asks remarried...I really hope his new wife realizes what a piece of garbage he is. No clue if he's still married. Hopefully God denied him more children....

I'm not sure why this case upsets me so much, but God I feel so bad that Andrea was failed by those that should've helped her. I guess the good thing is now PPP and PPD are addressed more than they used to be. Hopefully society continues to help women with this issue instead of rug sweeping it then acting all shocked when the worst happens because nobody helped.
The fact Casey Anthoney made a documentary to try and rewrite the narrative surrounding her horrendous crime really shows you how much of an unrepentant monster she really is.

Andrea Yates was repeatedly failed my medical and mental health professionals. I strongly believe those kids would be alive if she was properly cared for and if her husband had noticed how bad it was
Yeah, I'm gonna lay everything at the feet of her ruthless Christian cult, the Quiverful movement, that says women must be mothers no matter what. They had zero regard for her mental health and zero regard for her children. From the top down, Yates wasn't gonna get help.

I remember the story about Gabriel Fernandez. A lot of people ignored the signs of his abuse but Child Protective Services were contacted more than once by people suspecting abuse. Social workers actually got involved, and they still missed it. It's unimaginable. His body was riddled with unnatural injuries. I sincerely hope those social workers and the system in general feel the weight of what they allowed to happen for the rest of their lives. I know that's extreme, but it's almost impossible NOT to cry when the evidence of his injuries is listed, and hard to think it wasn't at least a little noticeable. That little boy was failed by every single adult in his life. And actually the system promised reforms to prevent this happening again but it has happened again. In the same area. More than once. This is supposed to be a time where adults getting involved is perfectly acceptable in order to save a life. It's not like when Sylvia Likens was tortured to death and people minded their own business.

My bio mother abandoned my brother and I in a restaurant when we were young. I have memories of trying to keep my brother alive. One involving being 3or 4 years old and trying to figure out how to heat a frozen pizza. We survived and we're adopted. I feel horrible for all the children who didn't escape their evil mothers.
Susan Smith is particularly upsetting. If she wanted to be with that man so much, she could have literally just given full custody to her ex-husband. Killing them and lying about it being a carjacking absolutely disgusting.
What's really disgusting about Susan Smith is that she originally tried to make it look like the deaths of her children were the result of a "carjacking" by a BLACK MAN! Not only that, but for a while, the public and the police believed her! It's almost unbelievable! Even in this modern age, where we're all supposed to be so "enlightened" about racial issues and relations, black people are still regarded as convenient scapegoats for crimes they didn't commit, and/or never happened in the first place. They used to do this in the old South, where black men were accused of raping white women and were often lynched without a fair trial. This happened in 1923, here in Florida, when a white mob, after hearing of a white housewife being raped by a black guy, destroyed the all-black town of Rosewood, killing several blacks (two white men were also killed, but those might have been acts of self-defense), and driving the rest of the residents out of the area forever. Ironically, there's a possibility that the "rape" that started the whole thing didn't occur at all. The theory is that the woman who made the accusation was having a love affair with a train engineer, but on the day in question (01/01/1923), she had an argument with him during which he hit her, and, fearing that her husband would find out about her infidelity, she made up the story of a "n****r" raping her. In that same year, 1923, James Montgomery, a black businessman in Waukegan, Illinois, became frustrated when the local Ku Klux Klan began working with the police to frame innocent blacks on bootlegging charges (Prohibition was in force at the time). Montgomery tried to urge his fellow blacks to fight back against such persecution. In retaliation, the Klan framed Montgomery on a charge of raping a deranged white woman named Mamie Snow, age 62. He was convicted after a trial lasting only TWENTY MINUTES, and sent to prison for life. Over twenty years later, a reporter took on the case and found evidence that Mamie Snow was never raped at all, that she was a virgin, that she failed to identify Montgomery at the police station, and that the prosecutor, who was himself a Klansman, had suppressed the medical report proving that Mamie Snow wasn't raped. Having been cleared of all charges, he was released from prison in 1947, after serving 24 years. Then there was the case of the Scottsboro Boys, a group of nine black youths, between the ages of thirteen and twenty, who were accused of raping two white girls on a freight train near Scottsboro, Alabama in 1931. They went through several trials conducted in an atmosphere of racial hatred, where witnesses and prosecutors alike openly made racist remarks in front of the jury, and where the accused were convicted and received death or prison sentences, even though a doctor testified that he examined the two "victims" and found no evidence of rape, and one of the girls recanted her testimony, stating that neither she nor her friend had been raped, that they made it all up to avoid being arrested for vagrancy. Nevertheless, the boys were in and out of prison or death row while their case went through endless appeals, which led to Supreme Court decisions that the defendants didn't get a fair trial because their first lawyer was a drunken incompetent, and because blacks were excluded from jury duty. Yet, the youths kept being convicted by all-white, all-male juries. Eventually, charges against some of the accused were dropped, while some of the others still remained in jail. Most of them were paroled, and then they went their separate ways. Some came to bad ends, a few went to prison for other crimes, and one, Clarence Norris, broke the terms of his parole and became a wanted man for thirty years, until 1976, when he received a full pardon from, ironically, Alabama Governor George Wallace, who used to be known as a bigot because of his original resistance to racial integration. And today, the framing of people of color continues.
What I hated about her was that she got on camera and fake cried with no tears. As opposed to the Dad who was weeping the whole time. She was so damn evil.

I’ll never forget the case of Susan Smith. I KNEW she did it. When she was on the news pleading to ‘the carjacker’ to bring back her sons, her voice was cracking like she was crying, but there were no tears. I knew right away. I talked to a couple classmates about it and told them what I thought. They all said a mother would never do that. Sadly, I was correct.
There's a show called 'How it Really Happened' and they have 2 episodes on her. The most heartbreaking part of it is her ex-husband (the boys father) he was so upset about it and in total shock when she admitted she did it. He admits he screwed up as a husband but he was a good dad
And blaming black men. I knew just from that she was lying. I mean she was one messed up women, to be sure. I look to the father too. Most men choose to ignore their children even when they know their mother is disturbed because they do not want the responsibility. My father included until he had no choice once the truth of our abuse came out. This is why you need to nurture both boys and girls to be good caretakers of children. You cannot always judge how good a person will be with children until you have one. They should use these cases to sell condoms. Only one thing will protect men from becoming fathers. A condom. Sadly, for a guy? Other than a vasectomy? Which is also better than a dead baby.
How Rebecca (watchmojos queen) was able to keep it together reading through all of these terrible stories is a true testament to her strength. Thankyou for bringing these stories to the front, watchmojo. As horrible as they are, they must be spoken about to ensure many more lives can be spared.
The problem with these parole boards is that they simply don't understand that people who commit horrendous crimes should never be paroled, and in fact most of these assailants simply cannot be rehabilitated!
It depends; if you have certain personality disorders, you'll never change, and even if you convince someone you have changed, it's just a mask of sanity. When it comes to something like a psychosis, it can be very different.
And what exactly is the parole system for the families of the victims? They get their lives changed forever yet they committed no crime! Life should be life. These creatures need to die in jail. The system is flawed.
I agree a bit. My brother should've never been paroled. It only made him worse as he went right back to doing what he did before....selling drugs, threatening to kill me and my little family and others, beating on women, until one of his girlfriends said he wasn't gonna do it again and someone shot him. I was giddy with happiness. Went to his funeral and smiled the entire time. The street will do what the law won't😁
Oh wow. I was almost asleep when I heard Stacy Marie Parsons. I still can't get over what she did. She endured some of the worst abuse of any kid that I've ever heard about. She was a good kid. This just makes me sad every time I hear about her. She was abused by her birth mother and then abused by her adopted family. The whole situation is heartbreaking. 😭
1. Some kids are not planned. 2. A lot of people (not just women) have a romanticized view of raising children and they can't deal with it. 3. Honestly, some people are just egotistical monsters who don't care who they hurt.

I feel bad for Andrea Yates. Her husband knew she had post partum psychosis AMF he insisted they continue having children. He was a follower of a religious cult and thought prayer would cure her, not medication. I completely bllame him. He should have been arrested. She was seriously ill. I don't believe she belongs on this list. It was reported that she was able to leave the institution but she refused to leave bc of 'her' crime and remains there. Tragically sad 😔
I've aggressively defended Deena Schlosser for this exact reason. Her husband straight up refused to let her get treatment for postpartum psychosis when she said she didn't feel safe anymore, then had the nerve to be shocked when something happened. She shouldn't spend life in prison because she was sick and was denied help. She already has to live with what she did, that's punishment enough.

Andrea Yates is a tough one. What a horrible unimaginable tragedy. However I feel that a lot of it should have fallen on her husband. I believe Andrea actually loved her kids and on that horrible awful day truly believed she was doing what was best for them.
She was in and out of mental hospitals and her husband didn't care. They were told to keep her on meds and stop having children, yet, her husband ignored doctors orders.

As the title of the video just says, “Horrible Mothers”, not “Horrible Mothers that Murdered their Children”, I am surprised Casey Anthony isn’t on this list… She may have been acquitted in Caylee’s murder, but she was definitely a horrible mother! And in my opinion, and even worse human being.

You can't make a list of every single one, and she may have only been the most popular case. Granted, two women adopted kids and drove off a cliff. I'll also never understand punishing one parent by murdering the kids, as if they weren't innocent lives themselves.
@ALA-FREAKING-BAMA! from what I've read from the jurors themselves, they didn't think she was innocent. The prosecution over charged her so they had to legally acquit her. They had too much reasonable doubt for the amount of charges. They say that if they had only had to find her guilty of one of two charges it would've met the burden of proof better. Several also said they regret not just convicting her anyway... the thing is, what people don't get, is that in the judicial system, being found not guilty isn't the same as being innocent. If they thought she was innocent the judge would've thrown the case out. They just couldn't find her guilty of so many charges "beyond a reasonable doubt". It's messed up, but when the prosecution gets over zealous, it can confuse jurors who aren't lawyers. There's several interviews on TH-cam with the jurors if you're interested. This is one time I would be totally ok with Anthony being charged AGAIN, double jeopardy aside.

Andrea Yates was left alone with her 5 children after repeatedly stating that she was afraid she would harm them. Her doctor told her husband not to leave her alone with them, not to have anymore children. But what did he do? Sure didn't listen to the doc! Had he listened to the doctor and allowed Andrea to get the mental help she was SCREAMING FOR, those children would still be alive.

Mental illness is just as serious as physical illness. I suggest you revisit the facts of this case. Andrea wasn't allowed the time to heal, wasn't allowed to get the help she needed. She was failed. Those poor children were horrifically failed! Have you ever heard the phrase - 'not in their right mind?' It happens. Have you heard of postpartum psychosis? This is not an isolated case. It's just one of the worst because 5 innocents were murdered so of course it got much media attention. If you can't understand these things, oh well. Have the day you deserve.

Rusty Yates should’ve been locked up. He knew she needed help, she needed medical care and he guilted her, manipulated her and denied her the meds she needed. She was sick. He was a monster.
The second mom on this list was discussing. Poor Gage RIP. Prosecutors and the judge said that this was the worst case of maltreatment they ever seen. The social workers who forced him into the abusive household and failed to take him back to his grandparents were all fired from their jobs and criminally charged for his death too.
Interesting fact: not only the case of Theresa Knorr was on Deadly Women, but her son William even interviewed for Evil Lives Here. I wish Terry lived to give an interview for Evil Lives Here too though, so people can hear both sibling's side. But I hope she is at peace with her two older sisters now. Gabriel’s story made me cry. I’m a Mother of a 2 month old son and I’m a Sunday school teacher and I watch 2 and 3 years old. I could never imagine hurt those kids or my Son Jacob. It really breaks my heart that a Mom would hurt and kill there own child.
Thank God other people in the comments are mentioning Casey Anthony. She probably wasn’t on this list because she wasn’t actually charged, but it’s so obvious that she killed her daughter and got away with it. Her horrible acting job and the fact that she wasn’t found guilty is insane
Number 1 reminded me of the Sugamo child abandonment case in 1988 that inspired the 2004 Japanese film No Body Knows by Hirokazu Kore-eda. The tragic event was that the mother left the eldest son to care for his half-siblings fathered by different men for nine months. During that time, one of the children died at the hands of the son’s friends and was subsequently buried by the friend with the help of the brother, who was just 14. After the children were discovered abandoned by the police, the mother turned herself in, served three years in prison, and regained custody of two of her kids.
I am a hard core horror movie fan and the only movie to ever deeply affect me was the movie about Sylvia Lyken's death. Even seeing the name of it listed when scrolling through the guide makes my stomach hurt. That monster shouldn't have ever been released from jail and any of the others who took part should have faced life.
There was one time Oprah had interviewed 4 mothers on death row, for killing their own children. And at another point, she’d interviewed Shaquan Duley for killing her two little sons, then driving the car with the boys in the back, into the river. All the while, Shaquan had a seven year old daughter who has been raised by other relatives. Those poor children. Breaks my heart. And I am shocked that Louise Turpin isn’t on here, even though no children died. She and her husband were THE WORST! Finally, the Child Called It, Dave Pelzer. His mother was inhuman. Evil to the core. Even though he lived, that “mother” should have rotted away in jail. Pure evil.
I remember Diane downs from the 80s laughing and carrying on after one of her kids died, one was paralyzed and one is just mentally scarred after seeing what her mom did. Evil woman!
Seeing the home video of Smith with her kids on August 7th 1994 was 4 days before my birth, just rocks me to my core. My mom was so disturbed by her actions back then
The Likens/Fernandez cases are two of the worst cases. Those kids suffered. I feel for all the kids harmed by their terrible mother’s but those 2 cases haunt me. RIP angels

All of these stories are heartbreaking, but after watching the Gabriel Fernandez documentary, his story especially tore me up. A complete systematic failure.
Look at those beautiful children, they don’t know what is coming to them. These women need to get the death penalty for killing the most innocent of all, children.
Rose West was a horrible person but I don’t think she would have become that person if it weren’t for meeting Fred. That was the impression I got from reading Happy Like Murderers about the Wests and the House of Horrors. Fred West was evil and was able to manipulate her into becoming something he needed her to be. Just like Ian Brady did to Myra Hindley. I don’t think either of those women would have committed murder if they had met decent men IMO

I felt so, so bad for Andrea Yates!! She showed signs of postpartum depression after her first child but he went on impregnating her anyway. In my opinion, he was just as guilty of murder as she was. She wasn’t responsible; she was as much a victim of her husband as her little angels were!
I had a HORRIBLE "mother" I often thought about and prayed for kids who had it worse than me... I finally at 40 went NO CONTACT with her and my equally evil twin siblings..but my life has been REALLY hard..I was the family slave and I actually did a good job keeping the "home" functioning... My father and oldest brother appreciated everything I did...but the rest of them were ungrateful bastards who ended up stealing everything my father left to all of us.. Abuse and degradation, no love or support EVERY day .... I survived but just barely..I am still suffering from PTSD...life is REALLY a struggle.. Child abuse SHOULD BE A CAPITAL CRIME.. because it destroys the person forever..

Here's what I think should have happened after Andrea made her second attempt at suicide in the summer of 1999: 1.) Her doctors should have filed the necessary paperwork to have Andrea's hospitalization extended. 2.) Harris County Children's Services should have removed the children because there is no way they would have been safe with a severely mentally ill mother and a father who cared more about his religious beliefs than the mental health of his wife. 3.) After buying their new house; Rusty should have sold the bus and motor home and put the money from the sales towards purchasing (or if needed leasing) an SUV for himself and a minivan for Andrea. 4.) Rusty should have hired a housekeeper and a nanny to give Andrea some help. A housekeeper would help her out with the cleaning and a nanny would be able to give Andrea time for herself by doing things such as taking them to the park or to playgrounds. 5.) Rusty should have enrolled the older kids in a private Christian school and put the younger kids in day care as a means of giving Andrea time for herself as well as to let the kids socialize with other kids their age and make friends.

I remember first hearing about Gabriel Fernandez’s story in 2014, told by the teacher, she had a video on TH-cam explaining the story, don’t know if it’s still up on TH-cam. That story made me cry like a baby, still stood out in my mind even after seeing the documentary on TH-cam in 2020.
Not fair to include Andrea Yates in this list, her extreme case of post partum psychosis and controlling husband and pastor who insisted she keep having babies when doctors had warned them how dangerous it would be for her to have more children show she was a victim aswell as her poor babies.
My adult daughter warned me not to watch it. We both watch a ton of true crime, serial killer etc stuff so when my daughter tells me not to watch something because it'd piss me off so much I listen.
I wish. She didn't kill but she had six kids she never loved or cared for and the beatings were never discovered because we all feared the consequences. I envy what the rest of you have. It's something I've never known.

Postpardum is no joke. I had it severely after my son was born, didn't know what was happening to me. Never hurt my son but I did hurt myself and ended up in the hospital. The doctor explained to me what was wrong with me and why I had been slowly losing my mind for months, I got the help I needed and learned a very valuable lesson.
The lesson is to not be afraid to get help or ask for it, and not to have the mindset it will just work itself out or go away.

I will forever be angry that Andrea Yates’s husband was not held liable for leaving their children home alone with her after repeatedly being warned that she was a danger to them because he “didn’t want her to become totally dependent on others” to take care of their children.
Amen!! It's prob an unpopular opinion, but I think he was more guilty than she was. Post partum psychosis is way worse than post partum depression. It's a full on psychotic break. She needed help so bad and her husband, doctors and support system totally failed her. Her doctor took her off medication that was helping her, rusty was told NOT to leave her alone with the kids but decided "half an hour would be fine" until his mother got there....I feel a lot of compassion for Andrea.
She's close to where I live and it's said she refuses to attempt getting released because she doesn't feel like she deserves it after what happened.
Rusty will hopefully get what he deserves.
The interviews I've seen of Rusty scream "narcissistic asshole" to me. He makes my skin crawl.

Yes, what she did was horrific, but she was legitimately mentally ill and it’s well documented. Her husband kept her at home with 5 kids aged 7 and under with little to no support because in his eyes it was her job. He denied her birth control and psych meds she needed because his religion wouldn’t allow birth control and the psych meds would be bad for a baby if she got pregnant again. He disregarded EVERYTHING the doctors told him about her illness because he thought he knew better. And he had the nerve to do interviews at the time of her trial talking about when this is over and she gets better she can come home and we can have more kids. I hate that he’s just out and about living his life like 5 kids aren’t dead because he had to have his way instead of listening to the doctors.

I remember the story about Gabriel Fernandez. A lot of people ignored the signs of his abuse but Child Protective Services were contacted more than once by people suspecting abuse. Social workers actually got involved, and they still missed it. It's unimaginable. His body was riddled with unnatural injuries. I sincerely hope those social workers and the system in general feel the weight of what they allowed to happen for the rest of their lives. I know that's extreme, but it's almost impossible NOT to cry when the evidence of his injuries is listed, and hard to think it wasn't at least a little noticeable. That little boy was failed by every single adult in his life. And actually the system promised reforms to prevent this happening again but it has happened again. In the same area. More than once. This is supposed to be a time where adults getting involved is perfectly acceptable in order to save a life. It's not like when Sylvia Likens was tortured to death and people minded their own business.

My bio mother abandoned my brother and I in a restaurant when we were young. I have memories of trying to keep my brother alive. One involving being 3or 4 years old and trying to figure out how to heat a frozen pizza. We survived and we're adopted. I feel horrible for all the children who didn't escape their evil mothers.

Susan Smith is particularly upsetting. If she wanted to be with that man so much, she could have literally just given full custody to her ex-husband. Killing them and lying about it being a carjacking absolutely disgusting.

What's really disgusting about Susan Smith is that she originally tried to make it look like the deaths of her children were the result of a "carjacking" by a BLACK MAN! Not only that, but for a while, the public and the police believed her!
It's almost unbelievable! Even in this modern age, where we're all supposed to be so "enlightened" about racial issues and relations, black people are still regarded as convenient scapegoats for crimes they didn't commit, and/or never happened in the first place.
They used to do this in the old South, where black men were accused of raping white women and were often lynched without a fair trial.
This happened in 1923, here in Florida, when a white mob, after hearing of a white housewife being raped by a black guy, destroyed the all-black town of Rosewood, killing several blacks (two white men were also killed, but those might have been acts of self-defense), and driving the rest of the residents out of the area forever.
Ironically, there's a possibility that the "rape" that started the whole thing didn't occur at all. The theory is that the woman who made the accusation was having a love affair with a train engineer, but on the day in question (01/01/1923), she had an argument with him during which he hit her, and, fearing that her husband would find out about her infidelity, she made up the story of a "n****r" raping her.
In that same year, 1923, James Montgomery, a black businessman in Waukegan, Illinois, became frustrated when the local Ku Klux Klan began working with the police to frame innocent blacks on bootlegging charges (Prohibition was in force at the time). Montgomery tried to urge his fellow blacks to fight back against such persecution. In retaliation, the Klan framed Montgomery on a charge of raping a deranged white woman named Mamie Snow, age 62. He was convicted after a trial lasting only TWENTY MINUTES, and sent to prison for life. Over twenty years later, a reporter took on the case and found evidence that Mamie Snow was never raped at all, that she was a virgin, that she failed to identify Montgomery at the police station, and that the prosecutor, who was himself a Klansman, had suppressed the medical report proving that Mamie Snow wasn't raped.
Having been cleared of all charges, he was released from prison in 1947, after serving 24 years.
Then there was the case of the Scottsboro Boys, a group of nine black youths, between the ages of thirteen and twenty, who were accused of raping two white girls on a freight train near Scottsboro, Alabama in 1931. They went through several trials conducted in an atmosphere of racial hatred, where witnesses and prosecutors alike openly made racist remarks in front of the jury, and where the accused were convicted and received death or prison sentences, even though a doctor testified that he examined the two "victims" and found no evidence of rape, and one of the girls recanted her testimony, stating that neither she nor her friend had been raped, that they made it all up to avoid being arrested for vagrancy.
Nevertheless, the boys were in and out of prison or death row while their case went through endless appeals, which led to Supreme Court decisions that the defendants didn't get a fair trial because their first lawyer was a drunken incompetent, and because blacks were excluded from jury duty. Yet, the youths kept being convicted by all-white, all-male juries.
Eventually, charges against some of the accused were dropped, while some of the others still remained in jail. Most of them were paroled, and then they went their separate ways. Some came to bad ends, a few went to prison for other crimes, and one, Clarence Norris, broke the terms of his parole and became a wanted man for thirty years, until 1976, when he received a full pardon from, ironically, Alabama Governor George Wallace, who used to be known as a bigot because of his original resistance to racial integration.
And today, the framing of people of color continues.
What I hated about her was that she got on camera and fake cried with no tears. As opposed to the Dad who was weeping the whole time. She was so damn evil.

I’ll never forget the case of Susan Smith. I KNEW she did it. When she was on the news pleading to ‘the carjacker’ to bring back her sons, her voice was cracking like she was crying, but there were no tears. I knew right away. I talked to a couple classmates about it and told them what I thought. They all said a mother would never do that. Sadly, I was correct.
There's a show called 'How it Really Happened' and they have 2 episodes on her. The most heartbreaking part of it is her ex-husband (the boys father) he was so upset about it and in total shock when she admitted she did it. He admits he screwed up as a husband but he was a good dad

Most men choose to ignore their children even when they know their mother is disturbed because they do not want the responsibility. My father included until he had no choice once the truth of our abuse came out.
This is why you need to nurture both boys and girls to be good caretakers of children. You cannot always judge how good a person will be with children until you have one.
They should use these cases to sell condoms. Only one thing will protect men from becoming fathers. A condom. Sadly, for a guy? Other than a vasectomy? Which is also better than a dead baby.

The problem with these parole boards is that they simply don't understand that people who commit horrendous crimes should never be paroled, and in fact most of these assailants simply cannot be rehabilitated!
It depends; if you have certain personality disorders, you'll never change, and even if you convince someone you have changed, it's just a mask of sanity. When it comes to something like a psychosis, it can be very different.

This just makes me sad every time I hear about her. She was abused by her birth mother and then abused by her adopted family. The whole situation is heartbreaking. 😭

As someone who struggled with secondary infertility (i was able to have one child before infertility started), these types of stories are beyond infuriating.

I feel bad for Andrea Yates. Her husband knew she had post partum psychosis AMF he insisted they continue having children. He was a follower of a religious cult and thought prayer would cure her, not medication. I completely bllame him. He should have been arrested. She was seriously ill. I don't believe she belongs on this list. It was reported that she was able to leave the institution but she refused to leave bc of 'her' crime and remains there. Tragically sad 😔
I've aggressively defended Deena Schlosser for this exact reason. Her husband straight up refused to let her get treatment for postpartum psychosis when she said she didn't feel safe anymore, then had the nerve to be shocked when something happened. She shouldn't spend life in prison because she was sick and was denied help. She already has to live with what she did, that's punishment enough.

Andrea Yates is a tough one. What a horrible unimaginable tragedy. However I feel that a lot of it should have fallen on her husband. I believe Andrea actually loved her kids and on that horrible awful day truly believed she was doing what was best for them.
She was in and out of mental hospitals and her husband didn't care. They were told to keep her on meds and stop having children, yet, her husband ignored doctors orders.

You can't make a list of every single one, and she may have only been the most popular case. Granted, two women adopted kids and drove off a cliff. I'll also never understand punishing one parent by murdering the kids, as if they weren't innocent lives themselves.
@ALA-FREAKING-BAMA! from what I've read from the jurors themselves, they didn't think she was innocent. The prosecution over charged her so they had to legally acquit her. They had too much reasonable doubt for the amount of charges. They say that if they had only had to find her guilty of one of two charges it would've met the burden of proof better. Several also said they regret not just convicting her anyway... the thing is, what people don't get, is that in the judicial system, being found not guilty isn't the same as being innocent. If they thought she was innocent the judge would've thrown the case out. They just couldn't find her guilty of so many charges "beyond a reasonable doubt". It's messed up, but when the prosecution gets over zealous, it can confuse jurors who aren't lawyers.

This is one time I would be totally ok with Anthony being charged AGAIN, double jeopardy aside.

The social workers who forced him into the abusive household and failed to take him back to his grandparents were all fired from their jobs and criminally charged for his death too.

Gabriel’s story made me cry. I’m a Mother of a 2 month old son and I’m a Sunday school teacher and I watch 2 and 3 years old. I could never imagine hurt those kids or my Son Jacob. It really breaks my heart that a Mom would hurt and kill there own child.

Number 1 reminded me of the Sugamo child abandonment case in 1988 that inspired the 2004 Japanese film No Body Knows by Hirokazu Kore-eda. The tragic event was that the mother left the eldest son to care for his half-siblings fathered by different men for nine months. During that time, one of the children died at the hands of the son’s friends and was subsequently buried by the friend with the help of the brother, who was just 14. After the children were discovered abandoned by the police, the mother turned herself in, served three years in prison, and regained custody of two of her kids.
Not many things are sadder than children being attacked by the one who was meant to protect them.

I am a hard core horror movie fan and the only movie to ever deeply affect me was the movie about Sylvia Lyken's death. Even seeing the name of it listed when scrolling through the guide makes my stomach hurt. That monster shouldn't have ever been released from jail and any of the others who took part should have faced life.
There was one time Oprah had interviewed 4 mothers on death row, for killing their own children. And at another point, she’d interviewed Shaquan Duley for killing her two little sons, then driving the car with the boys in the back, into the river. All the while, Shaquan had a seven year old daughter who has been raised by other relatives. Those poor children. Breaks my heart. And I am shocked that Louise Turpin isn’t on here, even though no children died. She and her husband were THE WORST! Finally, the Child Called It, Dave Pelzer. His mother was inhuman. Evil to the core. Even though he lived, that “mother” should have rotted away in jail. Pure evil.
Blessedly, Catherine Pelzer died in her sleep from a heart attack in January of 1992. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

That was the impression I got from reading Happy Like Murderers about the Wests and the House of Horrors. I still feel somewhat bad for Andrea Yates. Because she suffered from depression she never should have had that many kids. She goes to jail. Her husband gets off scott free, divorces her and goes on with his happy life. He knew she was suffering.

Negligent Homicide is applicable because Rusty leaving Andrea home alone with the kids on the day of the murders gave her the opportunity to harm her children. Reckless Endangerment is applicable because Rusty constantly disobeyed the orders of Andrea's doctors to never under any circumstances leave her home alone with the kids, to not have any more children, and to keep her supervised and medicated. Here's what I think should have happened after Andrea made her second attempt at suicide in the summer of 1999:
1.) Her doctors should have filed the necessary paperwork to have Andrea's hospitalization extended.
2.) Harris County Children's Services should have removed the children because there is no way they would have been safe with a severely mentally ill mother and a father who cared more about his religious beliefs than the mental health of his wife.
3.) After buying their new house; Rusty should have sold the bus and motor home and put the money from the sales towards purchasing (or if needed leasing) an SUV for himself and a minivan for Andrea.
4.) Rusty should have hired a housekeeper and a nanny to give Andrea some help. A housekeeper would help her out with the cleaning and a nanny would be able to give Andrea time for herself by doing things such as taking them to the park or to playgrounds.
5.) Rusty should have enrolled the older kids in a private Christian school and put the younger kids in day care as a means of giving Andrea time for herself as well as to let the kids socialize with other kids their age and make friends.

I remember first hearing about Gabriel Fernandez’s story in 2014, told by the teacher, she had a video on TH-cam explaining the story, don’t know if it’s still up on TH-cam. That story made me cry like a baby, still stood out in my mind even after seeing the documentary on TH-cam in 2020.
