You can also get a very subtle twist simply by doing regular tubular HB stitch and skipping the step up. Again, the twist is subtle but can be very pretty with 3 shades of one color. Another pretty combo is ivory, peach and light rose for a vintage look. Thanks for the vid. Great job teaching.

Yes, I have been making this one since I saw the video yesterday. There are a number of channels with this sort of tutorial but I like your channel because of the features mentioned above. It is such a challenge to follow a tutorial when you can't clearly make out the difference between bead colour or when the hands and project keep going out of the frame. Really like how you used a large bead to finish the rope. I also like your idea to use a spacer bead. I have bunches of metal rondelles on hand and color coordinating clasps.

On the contrary, she could have been rude but chose not to be. People are so politically correct these days that they can't even tell the truth. That's not a good thing. This is meant to be a professional presentation, representing as it does an actual company. That means that even though it's free it is still a product, and the viewers are the consumers. My first impression of Potomac Bead Company will partly be formed by watching this. If there are visual or aural distractions that get in the way of the meat of the tutorial (and they very much do!) then constructive feedback is needed. I would not have published this with my name on it. I would have done it over with the necessary cosmetic corrections.
Great video... I did have to start the project a few times... but eventually got it completed. Its just very flimsy at first and hard to handle, but once it got longer I was able to have fun creating it... I would appreciate a video on adding thread so I don't have to have a real long and sometimes cumbersome thread length. tks again!
Love this tutorial! However, I am using 6/0 beads and you need more than double the amount of beading thread. I just did this for the second time using 8' and I still ran out and had to start over! This video is really great thanks!

Sixth row is up 3 teals, up 2 browns, and up 2 pinks. Am I to assume that the seventh row will be 'up 3 teals, up 2 golds, and up 2 pinks'? Or would someone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction?

We do sell a good beginner beadweaving kit, which has the thread, needles, some starter beads, and a few other things in it: www.potomacbeads.com/Beginner-Beadweaving-Kit-p/2242.htm After that, you can pick and choose which projects you want to tackle, and buy the beads that go with those projects. The most frequently used beads in beadweaving are Miyuki 8/0, 11/0, 15/0 seed beads, SuperDuo beads, crystals, Miyuki 11/0 delicas. After that, there are of course many many different styles of beads that you can supplement your designs/collection with in the future. We don't really do much with books, and because we teach classes, our classes/videos tend to be our preferred teaching method, but everyone has their own unique learning style.
Warning Janet - I just looked at the kit mentioned above - it has RounDuos and Cup Buttons in it - if you buy it you will be hooked for life - LOL. Seriously though - I love the cup buttons as clasps, they are so easy to get on and off, especially if you have no one around to help. Jodi =-)
Is it my imagination or can you go down 3, up 1, down 3, up one, down 3, up 2 for the step up? I had put my rope down for a month or so and when I came back to it I started using that count (I'd forgotten how to do). It seems like the only difference is that I got a marginally tighter twist? Is this an actual stitch or did I make something up?

I used Wildfire beading thread Since herringbone is a stitch, you can't use beading wire because it's not flexible enough to thread in and around seed beads.

+Melissa Sloan Create a loop one end and stitch through it multiple times from side to side of the end beads, doesn't have to be pretty as it will be hidden. Then slip the wire through the cone hole create another loop and attach your clasp. You can either do just a plain loop or a wrapped loop for security choice is yours. Or even place a crystal on after the cap and then do a wrapped loop with your claps. All the best Linda
Yes, as with most stitches, you can use virtually anything, especially if it is consistently the same size bead (11/0 or 6/0 instead of 8/0 for example).

Barbara Wells PS I also highly recommend doing two down one up also. As you will get a tighter neater twist. The one down two up method is less tight. So there are NO step ups, when it comes to step up just go straight to the top bead. Don't worry at first if you think you'll see thread, trust me once the twist starts it will suck up into the work. Then when you get to the other end do four or five rows of regular herringbone where you do the step up. this will give you a nice neat end to match your four or five rows you started you work with. xxx If you're unsure of what I mean, I think Jill Wiseman has a video of this method somewhere. I'm sure I saw one a while back pop up in my feed. x

Esp if you buy it on eBay. :D I buy 300yrd reels of Fireline for around £20.00 on eBay compared to £9.00 for 50 yards of the Beadalon Fireline. xx

Potomac Bead Company I am a beginner. I estimate about 10 ft. to make a necklace 17" long. That is a lot of thread to pull through each bead. Am I wrong?

You'll get a tighter more defined twist if you go down two up one. Doing a down one up two gives less of a twist if anyone is interested. Linda

No, .006 or .008 Wildfire thread will work for nearly every application

I don't think that is going to work, and recommend you use all the same size bead.for each row.

You can also get a very subtle twist simply by doing regular tubular HB stitch and skipping the step up. Again, the twist is subtle but can be very pretty with 3 shades of one color. Another pretty combo is ivory, peach and light rose for a vintage look. Thanks for the vid. Great job teaching.
