    Thank you so much for all of the content you put out. There are plenty of fly fishing and fly tying channels out there, but none give me the feeling of peace that I feel while on the river like yours. Thank you both so much, and please keep making content. I bid you* peace.

    Shorty, I live in the driftless area, N. E. Iowa. Thank you for your videos. They are fun, informative and well done. What I like the most is that the patterns you share are real fishing flies not just good to look at. I fish mostly dries because I like to see the take and the streams I fish are clear enough that the fish seem to always be looking up. Thanks again and best regards, Chris

      Thanks Chris. I have been told the same thing about my patterns on a number of occasions. It is awesome that you get such good dry fly fishing. I kind of envy you.

    You’re an exquisite fly tier and your videos deserve 10k more views. My son is a freelance film maker and editor so I really appreciate the work of your son. You’re a good team.
    I’ve been tying for 53 years and the best years are behind me. I said once before that our boxes could be swapped and neither of us would notice the difference.
    You can be very proud of your accomplishments. You’ve left an indelible mark on fly tying.

      Just wondering, do you ever do any tying demonstration for groups? I’m the Vice President for Main Line Fly tiers in Montgomery county Pa. Our members fish the Broadhead frequently and we are always looking for featured speakers for our monthly meeting. We do our meetings both in person and via Zoom for our members that can’t come to our meeting location.

    Being we fish a lot of the same waters I’d like to see some local beauties! Ya know those patterns the older gentleman always say “you’ve probably never heard of it but the are eating A …..” it would be awesome to whip up a few that started out on the waters I started fly fishing in!

      Hey Sal. I can't give away all of the local secrets or I will have guys waiting for me in the parking lot, but I think I might have one or two that fit the bill. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Congratulations to both you and your son on an amazing 50 videos I have watched and learned from each and every one of them. Your son is just as talented with his video editing as you are with your vice and bobbin. Thank you again! I still struggle from time to time with winged dry flies such as the Adam's. If you have any tricks up your sleeve that you haven't made a video on yet I sure would love to know.

    • @ShortyOnTheFly
      @ShortyOnTheFly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. If you are talking about a traditional Adams I would just suggest tying a parachute pattern instead, but I think I might be able to do a video that might help. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Congratulations & thank you for all you have shared. You have helped me get back into tying & offered a lot of helpful ideas. Also, please offer my congratulations to your son. My son is a videographer & video lab manager for a college, so I have a pretty good idea of the work that goes into making & editing each of your videos. It may be a labor of love, but it’s also hard work.

      I did a little research and found this : THE FLY SHOP'S WATERPROOF SWINGLEAF NYMPH FLY BOX Go to The Fly Shop website and you should be able to find it. I am still going to get a video about the boxes up inn the next day or two. Hope that helps.

    Hi, guys! How about an “outtakes” video. I am not a beginner fly tyer (maybe half a step above), but I seem to mess up my flies way more than I should. I know we’re seeing your finished product on video, but I have to believe you aren’t making the frequency of mistakes I’m making…
    So - what techniques (or flies) are you still messing up when tying?

    • @ShortyOnTheFly
      @ShortyOnTheFly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shawn. Thanks for the input. I really don't have any "outtake"footage although Chase might. You gave me an idea for making a video on "recovery" tips for saving your flies when you have made a mistake or had a mishap that is not quite fatal.
      I really hate tying any spun deer hair flies. They are just messy and never come out quite the way I want them to.
      Peace.

    Shorty and Chase thank you. I saw you at the show in Edison this past year but you had so many people around your booth I didn’t get to talk to you. Love the channel and have gotten some good ideas from your videos as I live in northern jersey (think musconetcong area). One ask I would have is in a prior video you mentioned a “local” pattern the name escapes me as well as the video. But, any chance you could share tying that pattern, or any other local patterns? Id also be interested in the history of them if that’s something you could mention briefly. Thank you again….I bid you peace!

    • @ShortyOnTheFly
      @ShortyOnTheFly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Stephen. We will be at the shows again this year so make sure you stop by so that I can put a name to a face. If you could be a little more specific about the pattern to which you refer, I will be happy to tie it for you.

    • @stephengiammanco7109
      @stephengiammanco7109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shorty the video I’m referring to was your one titled fly boxes. I heard you say a pattern called burns bullet I think while narrating the video. But I’d also be interested in any local patterns that you may have up your sleeve that maybe less known. Thank you, you are inspiring me to tie and learn different techniques

    • @ShortyOnTheFly
      @ShortyOnTheFly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, that is a great pattern. We have two issues with me demonstrating that one. First, I try to provide patterns that are my own or my take on a traditional pattern. Second, I try to stay away from patterns that I know are already up on TH-cam that I cannot improve upon. Because Tim Flagler at Tightlines has done at least three videos on that pattern that I consider to be the Gold Standard I am reluctant to suggest that I can do better. Peace, my friend.
