    ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on TH-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

Letting kids figure out how to do things by doing dangerous things safely gives them confidence and reasoning skills. I love that you take them with to experience all of your life.

There are people who never let their kids do anything, and then there are also people who let them fail without any guidance all the time, and neither achieves half as much as what these two are doing

Raised my two kids on that same headspace. They got flapped by geese and chickens.. had to learn to give sheep a wide berth.. rode quads and bikes in the field.. fell into dams... usually by the end of a day covered in mud and sheep shit. etc.
They both mid 20s now and their childhood has stood them in great stead.
    Best way to grow up....

Used to eat dirt. Play in ditches. Pinch golf balls on the local golf course. Climb stupidly high trees, and the very best thing..................put a book on a roller skate and sit on it, then let it roll down the pavement and the only thing that stopped us was falling off before we got to the road. All before we were 8 years old. Your boy's having a great life 🥰

When we were kids, we were taught to respect our elders and no means no. I think it helped that literally any parent could discipline anyone's child, it was swift and fair and so even though we were given a lot of freedom, "don't come home until it's dark out" we learned self-control through trial and error. We lived in bear country, were taught bear safety and spent lots of time as a group of kids, biking around town, in the forest building tree forts and snowmobiling in winter. I don't think kids get a true childhood with helicopter parents who never discipline. Your kids are lucky to be farm kids and experience life at it's best.

Great parenting. And I love the way you are always talking to the kids. Children who have parents that talk and read and sing to them, hear 3 million more words by the time they are 3 years old, than parent that don’t talk, read, and sing. A wonderful start to life!

You’re doing a great job parenting. The kids are learning that part of life is work. The boys are learning and enjoying that dirt and getting dirty is part of life and fun too. They are learning that safety is partly their own responsibility as well as the adults. It’s great you’re not helicopter parents, a problem we have here in the US.

All of it was so awesome.. including the blueberry muffin making!! Parenting.. YES YES YES! Back in the day.. kids had space and were encouraged to make decisions. Which is why today's kids are like mindless drones. They have lost the ability to explore and just be kids. I was never allowed to cook or learn how to cook in the kitchen. Don't think that ended well later on. Bravo to you Lizzy!! Thanks for sharing it all! Love to Spot and from the USA!

What gorgeous kiddo's and Angus starting to walk 🤗 If you give your children space to make mistakes they then learn from it. There are times when you Molly coddle them because at the time that's what's needed, every child is different, so you treat them differently, maybe to give them confidence or one child may need more praise than another. I had 3 under 3 and although it was busy, it was also packed with wonderful memories. Take care & God bless ♥️💙🩵🩵🩷

The biggest part of using the sheepdog to manage the flock seems to be the "on-off" button exercised by the shepherd. Spot really is shaping up to do a great job. Having only tried to get a house dog to listen occasionally, I think this fine control over their herding drive is nearly miraculous to witness.

And agree that kids learn from things they are allowed to try.
As parents we try hard to make sure they don't get seriously hurt, both physical and mentally, and remember that it's okay to stand firm on a NO when needed. One should never do kids a disservice to protect them from living life, and learning as things go.

Well done Angus. You will soon be just a blurry shape as you take off across the fields with dad puffing along to keep up. Jock is learning by making mistakes then trying again until he gets it right. That's absolutely the correct way to do it. He needs to work more on the Scottish accent though ! That will come once he's had longer at nursery, then when at school he will get fully immersed in Scots.
These dry sunny days will be drying off your lambing fields a bit.
I love that wee electric bike. Pity I am far too big for it now or I would be over for a wee shot.

Good parenting... But hard to learn sometimes. As a new young mom our first born was playing on the swing set with swing rings. She got her foot caught trying to go upside down and started shrieking. I ran in to "save" her, but my husband called me back. He walked calmly over, stood beside her... Dangling by her foot... Talked her calm and then talked her through the trouble. She got her own foot out. She was never in real danger, with dad beside her, and the confidence she gained is still with her. Btw... She is nearly 40 now.

I'm with you there Cam. It's no good wrapping the kids in cotton wool. No1 son had his first quad bike at 4, was driving his Rover 200 on the fields by 11 (which was soon followed by handbrake turns into the odd tree) and driving my Fergie and Landy on the farm soon after. At 16 it was a 50cc scooter followed by a 125 then a TT600 Triumph at 17 (which he crashed). He's still living at 30.
No1 Daughter had a scooter at 16 and travelled round the world, alone at 18. Its not that I don't care (their mother died when they were young) but they need to be independent. Dad is always there if things go wrong (ie, in Seoul when the Nat West cancelled your cards)

You two are great parents! Your guidance is great, we all had to learn to problem solve and not think it’s the end of the world or that mom and dad have to fix everything. Jock is at the right developmental stage for his age. He’s busy learning about everything around him, is wanting his independence, is exploring his environment and learning that things don’t always go the way you want it! Both of you are so patient and calm and he will learn so much from that. Love seeing you all work together. Great to see the boys around the sheep. Angus is walking already!!!🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉 If Jock figures out how to make a sheep dog whistle sound before he’s 3, I can only imagine the confusion in poor Spot! I think I spent about three months with my first whistle, practicing in my car trying to get any sound out of it at all….and later, when I finally figured it out, my husband insisted I only practice out in a field, or in my car when nobody was around to hear the racket🤣

Yeah, good parenting, builds confidence and the valuable lessons are learnt early.

A boy Cammy another good video 👍.
100% agree about letting kids do dangerous things safely. I won't say the crazy shit we used to do when we were young 😂😂, but nobody got hurt.

I think that is great parenting! Kids have to learn how to adapt and overcome.

I agree - experiential learning sticks better than instructed learning. Keep safety in mind but don't cocoon them is absolutely the way to go.

Great to see a bit of home life. I may have missed your baby girls naming, but think Brittany or Bethany would be cool😊

You have a very sensible attitude towards Parenting, Cammy.
But I suspect that the family dynamic will be very different when your little Girl arrives
I suspect that she will run rings around you and we will all then remind you what you said about your boys
Hey! No judgement. My Daddy was very protective of me and my sisters too
Which is why I never told him about all the Trees I would climb and the building sites I would explore in my pre-teen days as a Latchkey kid in the
70s with my little Gang all on Bikes and covered in cuts and bruises and mud from our Adventures
    Good Times

OMG what a warrior of a woman you have in Lizzy. I see all these other youtubers with nannies etc. But your Lizzy does it all, pregnant, toddlers and all! Your kids will grow up with common sense, something sadly lacking in a lot of children these days. Theory is great (playing computer games etc) but nothing beats actual experience of trying something for real and figuring out what was good and not so good in the decisions you made. Keep doing what you do, you are all awesome! I'm exhausted just watching you 🙂 xx
