Ooga Ooga Ooga Chaka! is an earworm that never bothers me. BJ Thomas, who recorded the original, is best known for "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," which you reacted to a while back.
OMG. I used to play this over & over in 1974, I like this version and love the original by BJ Thomas 🥰💟☮️. This was very popular, and I’m glad you enjoyed it & actually found this song 💎💎 Thanks for making my day !,
If you're curious, the Blue Swede singer is Björn Skifs, there are a few songs in english on TH-cam When the night comes, Michelangelo and he also sang the "The arbiter" in the 1984 recorded version of the musical Chess. Most of his stuff is in swedish though.
BJ Thomas also had a hit with I Just Can't Help Believing, a love song that subtly acknowledged the change in roles in the wake of The Sexual Revolution. It's up there with Sweet Surrender by Bread. You know David Gates had the right words.
I was twelve when this came out and I loved it! It always got my attention when it came on the radio. I thought the ooga chaka was fun. BTW, I also thought it was Blue Suede, which didn’t seem strange to me because Elvis had a song called “Blue Suede Shoes”.
I remember this song first sung by B.J. Thomas in 1969. In 1971 Jonathan King recorded his own version of this song & added the famous chant (ooga-chakas). Blue Swede copied that in 1974 & this song is considered their only big hit.
The Swedish pop rock band Blue Swede's 1973 cover of "Hooked on a Feeling" by Mark James includes an "ooga chaka" introduction from Jonathan King's 1971 version of the song. King was inspired by Johnny Preston's 1959 hit "Running Bear" for the chant, which features an "oomba ooga" chant by J.P. Richardson and George Jones. However, some dispute whether the "oomba oogas" in "Running Bear" were the actual model for Blue Swede's hit.The song was repopularized in 2014 when it was featured in the Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy and released on the soundtrack.
Hey Shawn!! I Agree that some people Can't Admit that a song by an artist, that isn't one they want to Say that they Like, can still make them Groove or get a Good "Feeling" from! It's all Peer-Pressure stuff! (Some Tough Guys still get a Groovy Vibe from the Bee Gees!)
Now we must hear the original by BJ Thomas. That "Rain drops" line is iconic......listen to the Genesis song 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' and you will catch a reference.
this song was everywhere back in my younger days! If you can, check out this song by the A Cappella group "Bass Gang" featuring Tim Foust the bass singer of the A Cappella group Home Free! You will be glad you did and it's a very funny video! Love your channel and if somebody doesn't like your reaction you can refer them to me!!! 🤠
Decent enough cover, except for the stupid intro part they added. The original BJ Thomas version was much better, even with the cheesy electric sitar, lol.
All I can say is, Shawn why don't you stand up and show us what T shirt you are wearing each day. We can't tell what it is, unless you stand. Please. Thanks in advance.
@@chitownlee it takes balls to add or sing ooka chucka or oogie oogie boogie that's the hook fool that grabs your attention you like the original I like them both not in favor of either your entitled to your favorite version !
To those of us who grew up with the BJ Thomas original, this was a bit of an abomination. I still think it misses the point somewhat. Do they even understand what they're singing?
Ruined it? Maybe for you, but apparently, lots of us prefer Blue Swede's version as it went to #1 so there's that. It's more playful and has more punch than BJs version.
This was all over the radio back in '74.
And for years afterwards.
I graduated high school in 74 and loved this song… and I still do. It lifts my spirits every time I hear it! ❤

Dancing baby music!!
From Ally McBeal?
I love this version. It’s happy
So very happy!

Huge hit back in '74
Born in 85. Still a top fave.

When I was a kid; I always had this caveman feel about the song, with the chant and the drums.
When the beginning of this song came on everybody started singing along...loudly

This was AM Radio ear candy growing up. I was 14. 😁💖
❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤😂 I adore this version from the first Ooga to the last note!!!❤❤❤❤
FLOVE this!!! ❤ when men loved women and knew it and staid it.
And It was good
You are correct 👍.
That chorus is actually a subliminal message. If you slow it down, they are chanting,
"Who got sucked off?
Ooga Chuka Ooga Ooga!!!!!!

Great music from now we’re great vocals
This was soooo popular back in 1974...I still have my 45 record too! 😊
early 70's ear candy
The music was so good back in the day.
Catchy! Goosebump!

It is a Swedish group. Björn ( bear) Skifs is the lead singer.
Wouldn't say I'm a pop fan, but there are some great pop songs that I love and will listen to anytime.
Hey Shawn!! ALL the DJs of this era said the Artist's Name WRONG!! Thinking of Blue SUEDE, makes more Sense than a "Blue Guy from Sweden"!!
A pretty song he did partly about teenage motherhood is "Rock and Roll Lullabye."
This is a cover of an original by B.J. Thomas. Personally I'll take the original but you can decide.
Lovely memories♥️💖
i like both versions im not going to say b.j. is better but i will say the original version of any tune will be acknowledged more !

This version of Hooked On A Feeling came out after BJ Thomas sang it. I like both of them…Hooga Booga! LoL!👍👏👏👏💜
More cowbell. Nice fun with a happy feelin'. Yes, uga-chuka catchy.
This is a good song! You should check out the original release by BJ Thomas that you mentioned in your commentary. Both versions are worth a listen.💜
Singer of "Half the Way", Crystal Gayle, also wanted a cup of wine.
Ooga-chucka...fun song 💖
Great fun song, BJ Thomas sang the original and it’s great
I love B J.Thomas' version of "Hooked on a feeling".
The version by BJ was the big hit I remember growing up, and in fact, I don't remember this one at all.
We had a toy dancing monkey that would sing this, it was hilarious.
The ooga chaka baby was a little dancing baby in Ally McBeal
Bjorm.ythe lead singer. Ahh the memories,....and one fine night. :}
I was a fan of the original and didn't much like this version but his voice is so impressive that I at least learned to appreciate that.
Blue Swede (Nordic), not suede (as in blue suede shoes).
I don't think it compares to the original BJ Thomas version. It's good but his is so much smoother. I don't know where ooga shagga came from.
❤ SWE.
The original eras released in 1968 and sung by BJ Thomas -I’m an old fart and like that version much better
Ugh! The creepy dancing baby from Ally McBeal!
The original song was decent. Couldn't stand this cover version and would change the radio station immediately
Decent enough cover, except for the stupid intro part they added. The original BJ Thomas version was much better, even with the cheesy electric sitar, lol.

I know you hate this, Shawn but the original by B J Thomas is better. 😆
Yes, BJ Thomas does it better!
not much that better blue swede has more balls b.j. is to sweet sounding but as always the original will always be better !
@JoeCruz-hs2yt I think singing ooga-chaka is the opposite of having balls 😆

Way to ruin a good song. BJ Thomas did it so much better.
This is a banger version Lilly!

Prefer this version
I like both versions. Björn Skifs is a legend in sweden
