    I saw (no pun intended) the Hercules on sale at my local HF for $249.99 (April 2019). This caused me to look for reviews of the saw, and brought me to your channel.
    I have read many of the comments, and I am surprised that nobody has called you out on this: the 42 turns for the blade height IS A FEATURE! It emables much finer adjustments of the height of the blade. This feature, which you poke fun at in both videos, and the rack & pinion fence adjustment are steering me toward purchasing the DeWalt.
    Also both of these are jobsite saws, which means that they will be moved from site to site and parts (miter gauge, blade guard, etc.) will be lost or broken in transit (as they are bouncing in the bed of your pickup). Parts are easy to buy for a DeWalt saw. Harbor Freight does not offer parts for their tools - you can only buy anothe saw.

    I went out and bought this yesterday. $249 (online coupon on their site, not on their ads in store). I am impressed. I checked the arbor for wobble before even turning it on. It measured .002 at peak the saw i replaced was at. 016. I was able to rip 1/16" veneer from a sheet of plywood. This saw is sturdy, powerful, and accurate. Definitely a Dewalt killer. And NOTHING like the old garbage that was Chicago electric , though i never had any tools of that brand die, they just always felt cheap, but worked

    Hello Red. On the riving knife one thing to remember is when the knife is level with the top of the blade it is set for non through cuts. Examples are for rabbits and grooves where you can't use the blade guard. To use the kick back pawls and the guard the knife is supposed to be in the highest position. When you put the guard on it will be level to the table. I see it all the time where the guard is pointing up and not level with the table. It also makes it easier to install the guard while allowing a bigger cut capacity when the guard and pawls are on.

    Hey, @Den of Tools: Are there instructions anywhere on how to fine-tune the Hercules 10” Table Saw? There’s a brief mention in the manual that it should be done, but nothing telling you what you need to do to align the blade to the miter track.

    I bought the Hercules table saw (your first video convinced me). It's great so far. I only have two compliants. First, the blade angle is off by 1°. Is it possible to adjust that? Also, the riving knife isnt lined up perfectly with the blade, and catches occasionally. Is that something that can be adjusted?

    • @trpayton99
      @trpayton99 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is adjustable by two hex screws at the end of the gage slider. Easy adjustment if you have a digital level box!

    It's nice to see how the blade guards go on since few will ever use them. I understand the companies have to include them for liability reasons, but those are obviously made out of the crappiest brittle plastic they can get away with. Using them makes the tool much less productive to use.

    I always love your GREAT reviews! As far as the saw goes, I won't be happy until HF's Hercules is 10 lbs, runs on a 80v, 10ah, 2-week continuous run battery, and costs $99 w/ 2 batteries, 3 blades and a free optional Saw Stop technology built right in. AND, the 20% off coupons would work with them. Change my mind.

    • @MemelordSupreme

      If they could actually do a sawstop-esque safety mechanism, it'd make a huge dent in the market. unfortunately suestop would try to sue the bejesus out of HF and now that they are owned by FesTool.. they'd win or they'd leave it hanging in court for so long HF would have to fold. Sawstop sued Bosh for their reaxx saw and somehow, criminally won the case. I hope one day someone else will step up to the plate and give sawstop a run for their money. Their monopoly on this tech can only last so long. It's extremely anti-consumer to have this technology cornered into a fixed price tier of $1000 as just an entry for the bottom level saw. Their saws really aren't all that great compared to other saws below or at the same price range. You're just paying for the blade mech. That added tax really sucks because it's not very accessible to everyone..
      SawStop needs a cheaper entry level saw IMO. If they released something in the price range of the herc saw or at least sub-500.. They'd make a killing. All of the hobbyists out there would suck that thing up in a heartbeat. It would be what the Sportster is to Harley Davidson. Sure it might cut into their higher-end tool profit margins, but they'd still be making cash and clearly that's what they really care about anyways.. So what's the harm in expanding their reach? --- Honestly I think they should license the tech, they'd make a freaking killing if they licensed it.

    The new model is now available and in stock "1" in my local store. looked at the box on the floor and never pulled the trigger. The display model was this one and at $279 sold as is with only 5 day return and no blade on the display. I walked out empty handed. BUT I will return for the new one once I see it on display and do the touchy feely.

    What up Red. Both saws have their good points, and not so good points. As i said before in my first comment ever on your channel; I have the Dewalt model you’re comparing. And you’re right it is a great saw for it’s intended purposes. Plus, the R&P fence is nothing to scoff at. Where there is a little more flexibility to the Herc with the fence and such. Looking forward to giving the Herc a home in my in process basement shop along side with its chopsaw brother I just picked up last weekend. Enjoyed the video and thank you for all your effort you put into making them.

    Hey Bear, I still want to know how to straighten riving knife and if you ever needed to adjust the arbor to the table how easy it is. I like the herc throat plate style, but Leaning towards DeWalt just because it seems easier to insure fence is true. Hows the performance of the DeWalt with the herc blade. What's the square footage of both tables?

  • @unclebob4208
    @unclebob4208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Bear. Love the vids. However dB is logarithmic, and 2dB is almost imperceptible to human (maybe not bear) ears. It's not linear like inches. But the overall average 93dB measurement showing both saws are pretty much as loud as each other is valid information.

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand how dB works but I can also say that everyone that has heard the two saws run next to each other has voted the DW saw louder. It could also be a tonal issue. It just sounds harsh.

    • @popsikyle
      @popsikyle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes 2dB is hardly any difference and almost impossible to notice. However, the different frequencies of noise effect us differently. A higher pitched sound is much more irking than a low growling sound, and will actually sound louder.

    • @Vessekx
      @Vessekx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Umm... No.
      dB is, indeed logarithmic, but that means the exact *opposite* of what you just claimed.
      Every 3dB is an apparent doubling of volume. If you start up one table saw, and measure the noise, and then start up a second one of the same saw, you’ll see the dB increase by *three*.
      2dB is *quite* a significant difference between the two.

    I got the same Dewalt a couple years ago, because I wanted a table saw for some projects, and had some gift cards I'd been given on holidays to take away some of the "ouch" on the price. I have liked it a lot. For my projects though it is probably overkill, at least on the pricing. If I were getting one today I'd probably consider the Hercules...using a coupon of course. I do love the fence on the Dewalt for the ease of changing cutting widths, and I seldom have to extend fence out and deal with detaching it. However, given the price and features on the Herc, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for one for the first time.

      Same here. I have had mine for a year and a half. Yesterday I was cutting kerfs and noticed that the blade was dropping with each slice. I started testing and set a blade height and then turned the saw on and watched as the adjustment handle started slowly turning counter clockwise by its self. When I first bought the saw I had to exchange it as the blade angle would not lock when the lock handle was in the full clockwise position. Anyone have a fix for the blade height dropping issue?

    • @denoftools
      @denoftools  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is also some play in a blade, and this is not a cabinet saw. But for a mobile saw it was very tight, at least as good if not better than the Dewalt. I just finished a nice little build using the saw and had zero issues with getting a good, straight cut every time.

    Hercules table saw seems to match the Bosch more than the Dewalt. Bosch has similar fence adjustment with the front and back lock and table extension system. I actual like that style fence myself for really quick adjustments and find it automatically squares itself with the table rather easily...at least to what I can testify on the Bosch. Dewalt's table saw lineup just doesn't show as well as their miter saws.

    • @denoftools

    Kinda honked me off when I went to HF when my Dewalt table saw pooped the bed. I am about done with Dewalt btw. So the nearest anything to my job was HF and I go to grab one of these saws. I was intrigued when they first came out and for 320 it seemed like a decent amount of saw for the money. Well they were out of stock and wouldn't sell me the floor model. They'd gladly sell me an open box POS chicago electric or whatever it was that would probably die if I ran a 2x6 through it. After fighting with Home Depot and them screwing my order up I wound up with a Ridgid because it was the only saw in Iliinois I guess other than a Ridgid 8 inch and a Ryobi 10 inch. I am pretty happy with that Ridgid and I got it for cost. Yep, apparently Home Depot actually does value their contractor customers, or at least this particular manager did. Four hundred plus dollar saw for 212 bucks and they gave me the All terrain saw cart for cost as well. 300 bucks and I had it all delivered to my job in 2 days. Should have cost me over 650 with tax. But I still like that darn HF saw. I want to believe they will make a good product, but honestly with the prices the Hercules fetch you're better off with the Ridgid or the Dewalt for a few additional bucks. But it does seem like a good solid saw that can take a few meatheads on a crew giving it a beating for a summer.

    You've made me start second guessing myself...I just bought the Ridgid r45171 Friday (still in the box), for woodworking and making furniture. Now I'm wondering if I should take it back and grab the Hercules while it's on sale.

    • @denoftools

      The Ridgid is a great saw (same specs) and it came with a stand right? If you don't need the stand??? Yeah, you could save yourself what, $70 bucks?

    • @kydox3262
      @kydox3262 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me put it like this...someone pulls up to your house with two boxes...one with the Hercules (with the 3 year extended warranty), and the Ridgid (with it's warranty, but without the stand). Price wise, that might make them fairly equal, so price isn't in the equation. If the person in the truck said "pick one and it's yours, free of charge" which one would you pick? This question might sound like a moot point, but HF was out of the Hercules Sunday and gave me a rain check, so the ball is still in play.

      I owned that table saw, the gear and pinion is the best in the business. Also the switching back and forth between the two positions is pretty intuitive and accurate as hell. I mean if you are ripping you're gonna stay on the wider range anyways. I don't think redbear has done much woodworking tbh.
