Awesome video, glad I found this channel, I have been running my Animation studio for about 6 months and looking to grow it further especially in 2021, I assume I missed out on the Black Friday sale on the course... (if there was one) don’t happen to be doing Xmas sale this month hahaha

Hi Stephen, thanks for the message. Yeah, I'm afraid there are no plans for a Xmas sale at the moment :-)

Great insightful video. Thank you. Also... I guess I'll be that guy to ask... HOW do you guys get to your 5k quote? Lol

      Hey Andreas, thanks :-).
In hindsight, I really should have talked through that and broken that down in the video. Next time... I'm hoping to get better the more I do these quick videos. I'll try and do that for a future one.
To arrive at the ballpark, of £3k to £8k I did the following:
Based on experience and technical understanding of the production process. I considered the required animation complexity, which in this case called for a relatively simple 3D modelling job but with some cool and complex lighting, texturing and rendering setup. Which I knew was going to take a bit of R&D by a designer here to get it just right. Then some motion graphics added to the 3D scene, plus some smart motion graphics for an outro sequence.
There's then some judgment based on the company size and the value a quality video would provide them. Which in this case I'd say was a very large company/brand with a project of 'low/medium level' importance.
I'd fortunately been given a text brief prior to the zoom meeting so had a rough idea in place so wasn't going in completely blind, i.e. it seemed clear that a storyboard would not be needed. However, I still wasn't yet sure of the expected complexity/quality as with almost any business narrative it could be done relatively quickly and cheaply without much fanfare or turned all the way up to 11. However, during the meeting, it became clear based on video references via our site and some other examples that they wanted something of a good quality level, so I upped the original estimate I had in mind to account for some more time refining the final video.
We've always got a figure in our studio for a day rate, which might vary depending on our eagerness for a project or general busyness. This accounts for a talented designer/animator to be on a project, plus a producer overseeing a project, studio running costs, software, etc.
Then comes the 'not an exact' science part. Weighing up the required video length, time making assets, animating, rendering, communicating with the client, the best guess at the number of amends they're going to require to get to completion. (*We do limit rounds of amends in our contracts, but would much rather not have to ask for more budget later on).
So.. in my head I'd do some vague maths... account for 1 day of modelling, 1 day of animation, 2 days of lighting/texturing R&D, 1 day of rendering (either done in house which ties up a machine or pay to do it quickly in the cloud), 2 days of reworking due to amends. Plus a voiceover and taxes. Then 1 day toward project management time by a producer or myself. Then make it a bit flexible.. so 7-10 days ish...
So I know roughly where I'd like it to be, then you ask the ballpark question, and see how they respond. If they're happy with the higher end, you can spend more time doing even better work. They go lower, then you'll bare this in mind when planning time on the production.
      I hope that helps.

Great content. I'm beginning to run my own studio as well focusing on animated music videos and corporate work. My question though is should I quote corporate clients and indie music artists the same? Most artists don't have the same budget as corporate clients but a music video averages 2 to 3 mins while corporate work could be 30 to 60secs. So any thoughts on how to navigate that?
And again, inspiring work. It's fortunate how I stumbled on your channel just when I decided to build my own studio.
