I was contemplating these products but decided to have a go at cleaning the EGR on my 100K 2.0d X-Type myself. I sort of thought that if I struggled getting it off I could tighten everything back up and use the spray anyway. With some excellent, easy to find help on some of the Jag forums I found the valve much easier to remove than I expected using just a 1/4" ratchet with long & short extensions and 8/10mm sockets. The condition of the valve convinced me that manual cleaning (half an hour with a couple of litres of paraffin, some non-metallic scourers and a pound store washing up brush) was the only way to go. There is no solvent I know (certainly none that I'm prepared to unleash indiscriminately) which could have shifted the gunge and tar. Even if it did I cannot conceive of it passing harmlessly through the engine, turbo, cat and exhaust. The opening to the inlet manifold was also similarly treated. Total time two hours. Would have been less if I'd remembered to refit the bl@@dy EGR inlet gasket. In fact the job was so easy (plenty of PVC gloves needed though) that I decided against tinkering with the EGR system. I'll just repeat the process as and when necessary. Can't be bothered with engine management warnings and the like. I may consider using a spray to maintain the condition of the valve but I doubt it. @Dan Lim. My sentiment initially, then I saw the valve cleaning without "Disassembly". For those with some automotive skills, disassembly would be the best way to clean the EGR. But, for the rest of us, the cleaner test kit is the answer. (my 2 cents)

Constantino BellaRomano an even worse idea at any rate. A/F ratios depend on the post cat data in junction with either a mass air flow or MAP sensor data. It will not make accurate adjustments if you remove the cat.
would that get into the EGR ports as well? I don't understand how this would get to the EGR valve.. I thought the intake just goes into the fuel mixture directly before its burned, and the exaust gas enters this system through an entirely separate system.

Even older engines had EGR valves. This engine seems very similar to the Ford 1.8 TDI found in the 1998 mondeo. Mechanical fuel pump and EGR valve controlled by a vacuum solenoid. There is no ECU either, all fully mechanical. Injectors are triggered by the shaft position on the fuel pump an can be adjusted by the adjustment screw on front of the pump. The EGR valve can simply be disabled by disconnecting and closing of the vacuum hose.

Sir lahat suv kahit anong brand may egr.sa toyota fortuner mayroon? Pls reply.
Nice
I sprayed this on my cat! Now hes not talking to me.
Johnny Knoxville How does he smell? Terrible!
+Johnny Knoxville i am from the ,,,,rspca & pdsa not funny sick
+Johnny Knoxville I think you need to go to mental doctor if you talk with cat ;d
I think you need to learn English before you post comment!
Get a sense of humour added you breast feeder!
So does all the crap that's removed go in the intake manifold/cylinders?
@Dan Lim. My sentiment initially, then I saw the valve cleaning without "Disassembly". For those with some automotive skills, disassembly would be the best way to clean the EGR. But, for the rest of us, the cleaner test kit is the answer. (my 2 cents)
removal also seems less labor intensive and time consuming
jerry TRAP
20-30 min job if you remove it and clean it.
What was da point of that its still dirty as hell
Why is the EGR a different colour when he removes the second time for inspection?
I just got a used 2000 Honda Odyssey it has 231,663 miles on it and EGR Light came on can it be cleaned or do I need a new one.Thank you for Your help
They are expensive!!!! Just clean it using his chemicals.
I got a new EGR Valve at that much, but check engine light keeps coming on AutoZone said something about a code,I have old one yet!
Can this be done on a non Diesel engine? My pontiac is reading P0401 and I have cleaned it twice. Hasn't seemed to help. I was thinking this would be a better option.
on your can take a piece of speedo cable ot some sort or hard wire and shove it down the EGR passage into the intake its plugged up
What you putting in the gas tank?
Se lo pones nuevo y ya se resuelve el problema
Will I improve the performance of the car when I clean the EGR?
Fuck ya are u kidding?
Put egr in clothed position from ecu
The egr puts unburned gasses back in to fire up and by doing this cools down the heat coming out better performance
Mr.muscolo best cleaner for Egr
Skoda rapid 1.6 MPI AT ME CNG SUCCESS HAI KYA NAHI ?
làm vậy có sợ bị gẫy séc măng phá xi lanh không ạ
The EGR it route from the exhaust manifold, how is work when those spray mist burned before it exit to the exhaust and partially, minimal, recycle back (burned product) to the EGR ?
All of the crap is now in the catalytic converter...
he removed the catalytic;-)
Constantino BellaRomano an even worse idea at any rate. A/F ratios depend on the post cat data in junction with either a mass air flow or MAP sensor data. It will not make accurate adjustments if you remove the cat.
in that case best time to do all that is if catalytic is old and needs replace.
Constantino BellaRomano hah yep. Just to make you really wish you took that damn egr valve off to clean it to begin with! lol
Mr S
Nice video, but what would happen if you put the EGR into an ultrasonic bath with heated detergent? Would it yield any better results?
Good question , even I was thinking about that , ultrasonic bath would be the most effective way to Clean i guess
would that get into the EGR ports as well? I don't understand how this would get to the EGR valve.. I thought the intake just goes into the fuel mixture directly before its burned, and the exaust gas enters this system through an entirely separate system.
great help thanks for your hard work top man!
That lawnmower has a huge engine!
A good product for people that don't want to take out the egr valve.
or can not. i have peugeot partner 2.0 hdi 2002. the egr valve is hidden behind the engine. i have no idea how to take out egr without removing engine.
Where on a toyota vitz 3 cylinder you find the EGR valve?
Personally brother I would use bottled water and spray into the air intake and it would cost nothing and do a much better job
Put a water injection system on any vehicle this is done to and it will stay clean.
Why not to take it apart deep it in petrol and wash it with brush?
not all egr is easy to get at
@@patrick9761 they are all easy to take of and clean just revving engine will clean it to a certain degree
@@jameslatimer1432 Some engines have a long pipe that goes inside the manifold. How do you clean that by reeving up the engine?
I tell you, I just cleaned the EGR about 4 months ago by taking the EGR apart and cleaning up but I didn't cleaned the pipe so now I have the check engine light on again.
@@jameslatimer1432 It is a nightmare on some Antaras and Captivas
To test the product... Daft
I've used a spray cleaner on my EGR without dismantling and now have engine 'clatter' . Need to now clean injectors or replace them!
+sircraigery run it on the highway and try higher rpm it works
Thanks . I had the notion that might blow out a few cob webs
Good explained, I appreciate, thanks mate!!
Sounds shite
Thi kit it's only for ( diesel ) cars ?
Seems more complex than taking it out and cleaning manually
Looks perfect for a solid gasket
Start of the video you mentioned the vehicle is a Peugeot but when u test drive after cleaning the steering wheel seems like a Renault emblem.. hahahaha
I plugged in ny diagnosis tool because the engine light was on, and it says the problem with was insufficient flow in the egr, i removed it to clean it and erased the code the light went off like it should but came back on any ideas what i could do, its a vw golf mk4 i drive.
Its also a petrol car
Did a pretty good job
..if u look at the before and after ...the after egr valve looks like less rough crud/soot on the inside...
Not bad for a clean up without dismantling..
If fitted a starting motor to my peugeot 407 hdi 2.0 after doing this the car sound like it has no turbo now and runs very under powered. I thought it may be the air mass meter so I purchased a secondhand one, this didn't sort out the problem. Any advice.
i have recently purchased a VW polo 1.2 Tdi, used car driven 44000KMS approximately, i took a test drive before purchasing the car was going very had ie less pickup & noisy as well, assumed maybe servicing is required, took it go the VW workshop & checking the service record purchased the car immediately within 5 KMS the car emitting white smoke & taking jerks the car had to be toed to eorkshop they say it is Egr cooler need to replace,
my query is can it go immediately or is it a preexisting problem,
wants to return the car
pls advise
Интересно, а куда пошла вся сажа и шлам???
sorry ask u bro: the car that you work on has got the egr valve but still has the wire trottle body? how can these be possible??
Even older engines had EGR valves. This engine seems very similar to the Ford 1.8 TDI found in the 1998 mondeo. Mechanical fuel pump and EGR valve controlled by a vacuum solenoid. There is no ECU either, all fully mechanical. Injectors are triggered by the shaft position on the fuel pump an can be adjusted by the adjustment screw on front of the pump. The EGR valve can simply be disabled by disconnecting and closing of the vacuum hose.
Chatslet or just disconnect the solenoid
Its all bogus sales video
Sales will make you do and say anything.
Can you just spray it into the egr valve itself?
