Christian Bale, Tobey McGuire, Christopher Masterson, and Ben Peyton were considered for the role of Will Turner. Jessica Alba, Jamie Alexander and Amanda Bynes were considered for Elizabeth.

"The fact is I was going to not tell Barbossa about bloody Will in exchange for a ship because as long as he didn't know about bloody Will, I had something to bargain with. Which now no one has, thanks to bloody stupid Will." The scene then transitions to Jack walking towards the cache but instead of handing Elizabeth rum, they return to the beach where Jack shows her his scars, claiming there's no truth to the other stories. That's when they start drinking at it cuts to them dancing around the fire. It's one of the deleted scenes I wish was in the final cut. As you say, @Viki, Johnny Depp is the perfect Jack Sparrow, and he did a great role, for which he won the Screen Actors Guild Award, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, a British Academy Film Award, and for the Saturn Award. And he probably deserved better luck when he was in the initial selection for the Oscar award. The entire film is wonderful, with a great script, great performances apart from Depp's (Geoffrey Rush is incredible as Captain Barbossa), and also, for those of us who are very fond of cinema, the film is full of tributes to other great films. . The best known tribute is the scene in which Depp and Bloom walk underwater with the lifeboat, paying homage to what, for me, is the best pirate movie of all time, "The Crimson Pirate". Anyway, if you like pirate stories, there is nothing at all as amazing as reading "Treasure Island", a masterpiece of literature, and an incredible adventure.
best series if films ever.. each time yoiu watch them even when you know what is going to happen they still make you smile and you get absorbed into the pirates world... fantastic acting great script/story..= epic movies. i think the first film i watched johnny depp in was nightmare on elm street, back in 1984 i believe.
Johnny absolutely refuses to swim in the ocean. The farthest he'll go in is up to his knees. Any scene where you see him swimming was filmed in a tank. Also @4:21 you can see a large rather pointed mountain at the end of the island. That mountain was entirely CGI because what's really there is a large antennae relay and it had to be obscured.
I was wanting to watch this very very nice movie for one week!! And I just did it ... with you :)) ! It was much much more pleasant and interesting than watching without you :)) !! I almost always wanted to be a pirate like Jack Sparrow :) !!

that entire sequence, and the shot through the crack in the closet, is extremely underrated in my opinion. even with heavy CGI theres a huge amount of excellent cinematography throughout all three core films that gets kinda brushed off since it's in a wacky pirate adventure series.
