I’m so glad I found your channel. I live in southern Indiana and it’s freezing here right now. But when it gets closer to spring I’m going to start my first pepper garden. I can’t wait! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I appreciate you 💪🏻👍🏻
Thank you for the video, just watched it and found it very informative I am interested in drying my own peppers, so going to try this!! have tried drying some of the seeds to replant before but did not have a lot of success, but going to give it another go! did you dry the seeds first or plant them as they were (still a bit moist) ?
I have had good luck with a Dehydrator @ 135 Degrees for about 16 hours. I do it in the Garage, as it is just to strong to breath in the house. I use a Coffee Grinder to make a powder.
I would say it depends on the person. My father complained on the other side of the house. But I stood at the oven sauteeing some stuff right in front of it with no issue, I was drying some ghost peppers so they were a bit hotter than a habanero
Nice video. Your flakes look like they would make a great garnish, they're pretty. I tried a mortar and pestle but it didn't work very well. Did you crush them by hand? I ended up using an old coffee grinder to make my own crushed red hots. Also, I use a food dehydrator instead of an oven, but I see how that would be good for large batches.
Just put it on real small like 80 degrees and leave overnight, just so the oven just comes on and turns off. You cook them with this heat and you will loose flavor :)
Any methods to dry them that don't involve stinking up the house for 8 hours? I'm interested in doing this but don't have the ventilation and kind of scared to make my home a chemical weapon attack crime scene.
humm, I've watched a great number of your hot pepper videos and now you said you can't handle the heat... so my question is ''why?''. You grow a lot of things though. great videos, thanks for your experiments and instructional ones specially best regards from Portugal
Was looking how to make crushed pepper flakes. Now I know how to make pepper shakes as well (jus make fun). I keep trying to grind and always get too small. I would like to try this method and get some thicker flakes rather thank ground stuff. Thanks for your videos!
Were the plants true to type? I grew some habaneros a couple years ago, just like that, and got a variety of plants. Some small, some big, and some shaped differently.
I was thinking in celsius so i thought noooo that is to hot but you guys talk in farenheid😆 but does this hab smell like the brown one? I never buy a red one because i cant stand the smell of the bruin one
I love real hot peppes and ofcourse carolina peaper and habanero and ghost pepper and all peppers. It is strange your video popped up. Hello from canada. Lots of red . orange habs in the farms, got a lot - pickled some / froze some. Then i tried making Smoked habanero - i did it in my oven at 190 F. vey thin chards. Not a fancy work like yours and then i thought I had turned off my oven instead I must have increased the temp. I had gone away from the kitchen and heard my husband say" the oven is SMOKING. That's how all my carefully cut oven dried habaneros became SMOKED HABANEROS. Wish I had seen your video. One thing for sure. be careful the heat gets into your lungs it is coughing madness for 2 hrs. Pls be careful when working with habaneros and oven.
My experience is there is not much of a difference. The bonnets are a little fruitier tasting but the heat is very similar. I noticed many supermarket packets of “scotch bonnets” are actually habaneros 🤷♂️.

Thanks, really informative. I especially liked that you told how many hours you were dehydrating them. Good guidance.
You're welcome. I think I put these flakes in everything, they're so good!

Loved your smoked habanero. wish i had seen it yesterday before I attempted my way
What is the shelf life of these? Looks really good.
Spices and such... have a aging shelf life. They gradually lose flavour to a point but will always be good so to say lol.
did you say pepper "shakes" or "flakes"
dalton Carr i think he said shaves😆

when slow drying them in he house, does it make it feel like choking when you'e in the vicinity of the oven?
I would say it depends on the person. My father complained on the other side of the house. But I stood at the oven sauteeing some stuff right in front of it with no issue, I was drying some ghost peppers so they were a bit hotter than a habanero
Can’t wait to try this. Thanks!
Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Looks very good. Thank you
do you mix with tomatoes to make your hot sauce or ferment
do the red ones taste different than the green ones in your dried crushed habaneros? Those look 😋 delicious

He did 180 degrees fahrenheit, which is 80 degrees celsius. They dont burn with this method and its still hot enough
Great idea !!!

Have you ever used a food dehydrator to dry out the peppers as you can set it for 1-12 hours. Would be better than the oven.
Hey, how long do they last after they are dried out?
Any methods to dry them that don't involve stinking up the house for 8 hours?
I'm interested in doing this but don't have the ventilation and kind of scared to make my home a chemical weapon attack crime scene.
Dehydrator outside works great depending on outside temps.
Sun dried
180c or 180F?
loving it!

Just put my reapers in the oven using this method. Hope it works out!
Best way to dry super hot peppers without ruining the pod????
Were the plants true to type? I grew some habaneros a couple years ago, just like that, and got a variety of plants. Some small, some big, and some shaped differently.
Hi Nicholas, I'm not sure. I bought these from a grocery store.
Is that hot without the seeds?
Im going to dry them in a smoker. Im salivating just thinking about it.
I was thinking in celsius so i thought noooo that is to hot but you guys talk in farenheid😆 but does this hab smell like the brown one? I never buy a red one because i cant stand the smell of the bruin one
have you pickled peppers yet?
Does He look like peter piper
Dude where are you buying your habaneros at?? They’re always the most expensive peppers at the store
Check out the Asian Supermarkets. They usually have great prices for habs.
Hopefully store brought peppers can do this

Do you feel that there is really a big difference between habanero and scotch bonnet?

Always wanted to do this. Thanks for the video. Will try with my scorpion peppers!

Raymond Duke that doesn't work this early in the season.
He said he bought them for the seeds
Can’t believe you went through with this video. Not in it for the quality huh lol
You might need to update your narrative a bit my friend, get on with it.
Always wanted to do this. Thanks for the video. Will try with my scorpion peppers!
Scorpions are hot, you're brave! Don't forget to keep your house ventilated with those scorpions.
