I bought this Lennon Tool Bar ink after reading "A Pail of Oysters" by Vern Sneider and getting a bit of context of the importance of oysters in post-war Taiwan. The inks is a lovely dark-grey or light-black that gives me some subtle and elegant shading. I really enjoy the ink, but I'm also a really big fan of the packaging and extras that come with it.
Dongding Oolong is one of my favourite inks. Adore the subtle, overcast and shadowed mood of it. Oyster looks stunnnning and I may have to go hunting for it. Thank you.
There are several of these Oolong Tea themed inks from Lennon Tool Bar, and although I only have this one so far, they all look beautiful to me... I'm going to have to search for them, too. And the turtle themed box. *sigh*
@@thewetpen I can recommend Wenshan Pouchong as being similar to Dongding Oolong - greener. And I do have the turtle box - it's actually a rice cake, heh. Another darker green ink, but really lovely to write with (murky dark greens are my jam). I'm in Australia, and no one retails LTB here, so I took a risk on bottles and ordered straight from Taiwan from the Juspirit online store.
@@sirtessa I have about 8 bottles in my Juspirit cart right now... including two Mitasanshodo, which dramatically ramp up the price :-) Must resist!
@@thewetpen Hahaaaa! Well, good luck with that (I honestly don't recommend resistance but you know what your bank account can take :p)
@@sirtessa Ohh I love murky greens! I'll have to check this out
I absolutely love your opening. The rainstorm and the calming graphic always convey relaxation and mindfulness to me. In addition, you have a calm way of communicating that I really enjoy. And Tomoe River swatch cards---oooooh! Great job, and thanks.
Thanks Michelle :-) I don't usually use the Tomoe River swatch cards anymore, since the paper has been discontinued, but so many people still have stashes of it, I guess it makes sense 🙂
I would enjoy writing with that ink for long writing sessions.
Yes, to me, it's very soothing on the eyes 🙂
Interesting inks. Thanks. My favorite teas are High Mountain Oolong and Pu-Erh, although my every twice-a-day tea is Roasted Green which seems to have less caffeine. These days it doesn't take much caffeine to keep me up at night. The Oyster ink is certainly one that I'll look out for since most of my inks are black variations. That one seems intriguing. Thanks again.
Will have to search for other colors. This oyster ink is interesting for sure.
I rarely gravitate to black inks, but I'm a sucker for shading. That Oyster is amazing.
I agree. I have hundreds of blues, and about 4 blacks... but this one is pretty nice 🙂
@@thewetpen My brother has asked for a fountain pen as a gift to use at work and it's required to use *only* (!!) black ink in his office. So I've had them on my mind as I want to give him a few options that aren't plain black. This is great. Thanks for the great review.
@@hopemurray5834 My pleasure :-)
I love these inks that change as they dry. When you first started swatching Oyster, I thought that it didn't look anything like the swatches on the seller websites. Then it dried and looked as expected. 😅
Nice ink.
Yes, I thought that this was just going to be a black ink when I started swatching it :-) That would have been disappointing. I attempted to do a little ink painting with the ink for this video, and it turned out pretty badly because I couldn't get the ink to really go dark when I wanted it to (my own fault).
@@thewetpen I didn't think of that aspect. Interesting.
You make shading inks look so amazing.
I really like the Dongding Oolong Tea
Thank you for showing us such rare inks.
Thanks! It's the ink that does all of the hard work 🙂
Cool approach of reading about a place in fiction or NF before making a trip.
I also read non-fiction, but when I can, I read historical fiction and fiction from local authors, which I think gives me a feel for local customs and a general feel for the character of a place. In this case, I also read a whole series of books by Ed Lin, which were not great books, but were useful.
@@thewetpen Don’t know Lin, but agree with your approach. Enjoy Taiwan! I’ll look forward to the video(s).
wow, just wow such amazing videos on this channel I love your work.
Thanks Damin :-) Glad you found it!
GAH! both gorgeous inks - travelling to Taiwan soon, so hoping to hear your recommendations in a video soon!
Ahh... you'll probably get to Taiwan before I do :-) I might go in the autumn, if I'm not all traveled out by then. I'll look forward to hearing your recommendations!
I have this ink too and love it
And also the oolong ink! They’re both great. Lennon Toolbar inks are my favs
@@itsmeLori These two are both pretty wonderful... glad I'm not the only one who things so 🙂
Both inks are beautiful thank you.
My pleasure 🙂
Just found your channel and you make me want to purchase both inks shown in the video. … off I go to purchase them 😅😂
I'm still adding things to my shopping card at the website for a stationery shop in Taiwan. The more that I order, the less the high cost of shipping is a drawback, right?
Another great on Matt!
Thanks Dustin 🙂
Both inks are gorgeous! And, as aways, a great video. Thank you so much, and hope you manage to squeeze some fun/relaxation into your upcoming busy weeks!
Thanks Jay :-) Luckily, a lot of what I'll be busy with in the coming weeks is "vacation" with visiting family, so I should definitely get some fun (and possibly even some relaxation) in.
I may have to order that oolong ink! Such a nice green… and tea related…
Yes, I might have bought it just for the name... but I like the color too, luckily 🙂
LTB has a series of tea-themed inks in the green and brown ranges. It's a great way to learn about Taiwanese tea, maybe even journal or draw while sipping on a cup of the corresponding tea.
@@yuklimka7251 I have a couple more of their tea-themed inks in my shopping cart! I'm thinking about placing an order from Juspirit or Eslite instead, though :-)
@@thewetpen I've met the Juspirit staff at the Tainan Pen Show. They're really nice and knowledgeable. Eslite is more of a bookstore/lifestyle shop. You'll get a better deal from Juspirit.
Cool stuff.
I have one of those boxed LTB inks, not the Oyster, one of the tea options. They’re nice.
There's another one that I have my eye on... there's a big turtle on the box, and it's very cool looking. It might be the 2021... I'd have to look it up. It's in my cart, but I'm trying not to order it.
@@thewetpen …I believe my bottle is Bitter Orange Tea? Some LTB can be pale, not very practical for correspondence, but most are attractive. Their new Ghost Plant looks interesting.
I love the bottle the ink came in. Also, great that you are into tea as well and know about High Mountain Oolong Teas! My wife and I drinks lots of different teas. Are you into Pu-Erh tea?
High mountain oolongs are my absolute favorite, but I love black and green/white teas as well. I did some work for a tea company for a while and got to try tons of their pu-erh teas... cooked and green... some of the cakes of were quite old... but it was a flavor that never really grabbed me. In fact, most foods that are based on fermentation don't really appeal to me, if they pick up that flavor :-) I love most other Chinese black teas and Indian/Ceylon black teas... especially second-flush Darjeelings.
@@thewetpen I LOVE Yunnan Black teas! The ones with the really golden leaf. I also enjoy Ceylon Tea. When it comes to Oolong teas I tend to lean towards the darker ones such as the Rock Teas, but still enjoy the more Green Oolongs.
@@davidbyers7246 Yes, Yunnan is good stuff :-)
Sir have you tried rogrer klingner alt goldgrun , if yes please share your opinin sir ❤
Yes, it is one of my favorite colors of Rohrer & Klingner inks. I haven't used it in a year or two, since I've gotten so many new inks recently, but it's a great color with nice shading and it behaves well. Good ink.
@@thewetpen thank you so much i am getting it on discount for 800rs in india
@@hemkeshyeole4630 Not cheap compared to many Indian inks, but still a good price for an import. Hope you enjoy it!
