    The question I am looking to see answered is WHY a negative exponent is the same as a positive exponent in it's reciprocal form, like what calculations can be shown to demonstrate they are equal?
    It seems everyone throws out the generic rule without any real reason as to why they are doing it, thus it's harder to grasp these concepts when you can't fully understand where they come from...

    God, you make this seem so easy but in my pre-algebra class, our teacher, that doesn't really teach us anything the correct way so I'm always lost, goes off and explains it in such a complicated way, that I'm always lost. So, lucky for me, just as we start the exponents unit, you're here making these videos which help me a lot. Thanks man!

    how about if the numerator of the negative denominator exponent is not 1?will it still be the same process,to multiply with the denominator inorder for the exponent to be positive?

    • @acenebula3045
      @acenebula3045 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      amanda diaz the numerator will be always one if is whole number because you must get the reciprocal, example: 6 raise to the power of negative two, because if we turn 6 into fraction, it will be 6/1, since we must get the reciprocal of 6/1 (whole number) we must interchanged 6 over 1, so it would be 1/6, then easily change the negative exponent to a positive exponent, thus: 1/6 raise to the power of two, if we have negative exponent, the sign of the answer depends on the exponent. thus, the answer is 1/6 × 1/6 = 1/36, it is positive because we imply the laws of integers.
