I added one more increase row(row 6) 5 rows of increases was too small for me. 6 rows of increases was just perfect. Thank you for sharing the tutorial! I’ve made a quite a few and people love them!
Recently started crocheting. Mum tried teaching me to knit since I was a child. Tried teaching me to crochet...no go! Didn't happen lol I'm now 52 and I use your tutorials to teach me. Thank you so much! I finally get it and understand yay! Thank you for all your effort, you help so many to gain skills. Please keep going x
I've been crocheting since I was just barely a teen, and now I'm 52 yrs young. I like your videos and definitely have subscribed to your channel. Very simple hat and easy for newbies.
New subbie here! Amazing tutorials. Clear, concise, easy to follow, lovely narrating voice. Thank you ever so kindly for this channel. I used to crochet like crazy way back in my 20's many moons ago, but over the years got away from it and forgot how to do it. Been wanting to take it up again and have been looking for tutorials on TH-cam and while there are plenty to choose from, not all of them are so easy to follow or learn from. Your tutorial vids are the exact opposite. I feel confident I can re-learn this skill from watching your videos. Thanks again!
REALLY like your video! !! It was easy to follow...and you should be PROUD of your 1st video....this pattern is the kind I like...just enough of a pattern to be fun !! I look forward to trying more of your patterns and next video !!!
Can't wait to try this video, cute hat in the end and learn to crochet to boot. I love to knit but would love to learn to crochet..My son knitted the cat hat for his girlfriend, she loves it!!! His teacher in middle school "Cat Bordhi" a well know knitter taught her students to knit in class. Thank you !! we also have used the your" Freaking meow't" svg that we did an iron on a canvas bag.LOVE
Peg MacDougall That's very cool about your son & his teacher. My oldest son now 34 learned how to knit in school also. He tried to teach me, but I don't knit that well, so I stick with crochet its more enjoyable and relaxing. I went from making a hat straight to making a chevron blanket. My grandmother taught me how to crochet granny squares when I was just barely a teen.
Hi Alexis, I am a knitter but new to crochet and this is my first project. I've just completed the first 16 rows and so far, so good. My issue is that when I start the ribbing, my hat is no longer stretchy but really tight....to tight to actually put it on. Any ideas what I've done wrong? I've re-done it several times and each time, same thing. Thanks so much for the great video!
im using two strands of yarn (1 a dark red 1 white) so the hat is thicker and warmer so hopefully it still turns out as nice as the ones shown in the video.
I'm a 59 year old grandma of 3 with 1 on the way....I love your videos as I have been crocheting since my mom taught me at age 12! I make beanies, headbands and all kinds of good things for my family and would love to make this in a toddler size. Can you give instructions for that? TFS.
thank you so much for the easy to follow directions and sort cute patterns. this was my first hat b and it's so awesome! I used some chunkier yarn in this hat and had a couple of questions for the next go. What are the finished dimensions? And should I turn the hat inside out and then add the sc rows?
Simple and cute pattern🧶🧶.... I don’t have a 6mm - I have the next size up which might be a 6.5 mm- K size. Can I follow the pattern?or do I really need to purchase a 6mm to do this hat. I know the needle size might make the hat a tiny bit larger. I have thick curly hair- so that might work out better for me.
I made this hat with red heart super saver with the suggested hook in video and it came out too big... :( should I go down a size or two in the hook I use?
i thought that the circle part at the top was separate from the tube part at the bottom so i started crocheting the bottom first and now I'm gonna have to frog all of it and completely start over! at least this seems easy enough that it wont take long to finish
+dgibian1 Hi! I use Premiere Pro. It's included in the Creative Cloud, which includes Photoshop, which I recommend getting if you are starting a blog. Good luck!
I made this hat with red heart super saver with the suggested hook in video and it came out too big... :) should I go down a size or two on in the hook I use.
Hello there I have a question I would like to do this using red heart super saver it calls for a 5.5 mm 1-9 but your patterns calls for a 6mm. I don’t have a 6mm can I do it with a 6.5mm crochet hook
Heya! I was just wondering what size this hat is making it with a J hook? I would normally use a H hook when making a hat. But if it isn't a big difference the J hook is fine.
I’ve made two of these beanies but they’re coming out HUGE on my head. Am I doing something wrong?? Or should I only be doing 5 dc in the beginning ring?
Hey Alexis, My family are bugging me to make a hat similar to this but with a BIG hole on the top so they can fit it over a big hair bun. Is there a way to leave the magic circle open in the beginning to achieve that? Thanks!
Hi Frann! I would probably use chains to create the center hole instead of the magic loop if you want to leave a hole in the top. That's fun idea. Good luck!
very well explanation. your voice is really nice. thank you. ive noticed some voices are to high and sharp or is a snooze fest. not yours. thank you. good job :-)
not sure what I am doing wrong...I am using caron simply soft and when I get to round 16, I am only at 6 inches. I am also using a J hook. I don't know how I'm missing 2 inches :( Very nice simple pattern though!
I really liked your video (I subscribed!) Would you be able to do a tutorial on your black cat slouch hat? I want to make it but I'm not good with written instructions T^T
Alexis, how did you get the straight join down the back of the hat, I'm following your pattern, have made several hats but my line always goes off on a diagonal!!!
Daniel Fitzgerald Me too! diagnal and a little parallel? almost like stairs! but my number of stitches is right and it's definitely a circle! 😂 help Alexis!
I've had this issue as well. I was hoping to find something here that would help. I count every row and my stitches are all right on. I don't know if I'm joining them wrong or what.
Yes! That should work. Your had might be just a bit tighter and smaller, but if you want it slouchier, you could add another row or two to make it a little longer. Good luck!
Quick question Alexis ...my hat turned out great... however I had to turn it inside out at the end to see the ribbing . Was I crocheting backwards or something ?
I wondered the same thing as Kayla. When you show the first rounds, the increase rounds, in the video, the inside of the hat is towards "you" (as you crochet). But when you show it at the end of all the length rounds, you have it laid flat and your stitches are facing the opposite direction. So while the directions still work to single crochet in the back loops, the ribbing is on the inside. I think at some point you might have turned it around or inside out but it's not mentioned in the pattern. I've done the exact same thing as Kayla for the 4 hats I've made so far.
Okay I can't figure out why your stitches are so much tighter and closer together than mine?! Any advice? (I'm using worsted weight yarn and a 6 mm hook)but my hat sure doesn't look as neat as yours!
You probably just crochet looser than I do. Maybe try using a smaller hook and see if that helps. If you do this and you find that your hat is too small, you might need to add another increase round (the ones where you are adding stitches). If you do that, after round 5 you would add another round where you double crochet in four stitches, then work 2 double crochet in the next and follow that pattern all the way around. This would give you 72 stitches total. Then you would continue the pattern work the next 10 rows with just one double crochet in each stitch. Hope that helps! Good luck!
Dear Alexis, i have made this hat 3 times and am still having trouble joining the "autopilot" rows. I count 60 stitches , but there seems to be a gap after I slip stitch. Any ideas? Also, I am having trouble knowing where to start my double crochet next to my chain 3 stitch. I always get off and ending up with more stitches per row than called for. It's hard to know sometimes based on the tension of the stitch. Your seam is flawless, mine, not so much. Help!
I added one more increase row(row 6) 5 rows of increases was too small for me. 6 rows of increases was just perfect. Thank you for sharing the tutorial! I’ve made a quite a few and people love them!

Loved your video and the music great job looking forward to more videos!
+Paula Wheat Thank you so much! :)
Great video!! I look forward to more videos from you! Thanks!
Your videos are awesome, thank you! :D
You're just like me. I like weaving my ends in with a tapestry needle in crochet rather than using the crochet hook because I find it's easier.

Great video, Alexis. I have made 2 hats. Turned out great. On a side note, where do you get your nail art?

I thought it was called the magic ring or magic circle in crochet and the magic loop was for knitting but everyone is different from the terminology.
I made this hat with red heart super saver with the suggested hook in video and it came out too big... :( should I go down a size or
two in the hook I use?
denverrose1021 same here...
Mine came out to big too :(
Can you make the brim of the hat wider if you want a wider brim?
i thought that the circle part at the top was separate from the tube part at the bottom so i started crocheting the bottom first and now I'm gonna have to frog all of it and completely start over! at least this seems easy enough that it wont take long to finish
Great video! I'm thinking of starting a blog and making videos. Suggestions on movie editing app? TIA!

Would i be able to use a yarn thats 5 and the hook that goes with it?

I love this!! Could u make a video with that one cat ear beanie I saw u posted on Pinterest!? I'm more of a visual and audio learner:/
+Jocelyn Estrada Hi! Yes I am definitely planning on doing a video for that pattern. I hope to have it finished soon. :)
+Alexis Middleton yay omg thank you!!🙏🏽😁
wish I could take a class
Can you do the this without a magic circle? I cannot get it. Like chain 4 and slip stitch to make a circle?

+Jelly Lei Yes! It's definitely on my list! :)
+Alexis Middleton I'm looking forward to it!!
do you always do a slipstich and chain 3 when you crochet row 6 through16?
Yes! Slip stitch to join and start the next round with a chain 3. Good luck!
can you do a new hat
Alexis, how did you get the straight join down the back of the hat, I'm following your pattern, have made several hats but my line always goes off on a diagonal!!!

I made a hat and my starting row went crooked throughout and it ended up too big. It almost looked like a bowl. I don't know what I did wrong.
could this be considered a unisex hat?
I would say yes it totally could! The colors will make a difference, and you could leave off the ribbon if you like.
Thanks for replying!! I totally made one yesterday for a Christmas gift! Love Love LOVE your channel! I'm being such a fan girl right now lmao sorry!!
