    I hate the principal of low milage appreciation. It’s basically saying, I don’t want to drive this car. For me, a car that’s been well used is so much more interesting than some box fresh garage queen.

    I’m so mad because this was, for a long time, my actually obtainable dream car. A year or two ago you could pick one of these up for $120-150k which was a great value. Unfortunately the secret is out and the prices will likely only go up from here. Stop telling people how great they are 😂

    The 997 GT2 was the first ever production car (2008) to use variable vain twin scroll turbochargers.

      Actually the European 2006 997 turbo and North American 2007 997 turbo had VTG’s

    I always preferred great NA engines over great Boosted engines. A great NA engine never ages where as as you mentioned boosted engines always seem to be laggy in later years even if praised at the time for being non boosted feeling. I think as others have said that this is a collectors car and if thats your thing then go for it but for me I'd rather have a GT3.

    • @augustortiz
      @augustortiz ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I totally agree, but sometimes that lag is part of the charm. This car in particular is a huge dream machine for me.

      @@augustortiz Oh I get it I had a few turbo cars myself. My favorite of the bunch was my 3rd gen rx7 but when comparing a gt3 and that amazing NA motor, well theirs no comparison.

    market value for 997.1 GT2 actually different come up that much when compared to 996 GT2 or other Porsche, given it's rarity. 997.1 GT2 was always mid-high 100k car pre-covid, now it's only 230k. 996 GT2 was less than $90k back in 2015 now it's 220k every time. Even those 991 GT3RS went up so much from 180k pre-covid to 220k now with so many available, so 997 GT2 didn't go up that much. I think one of the reason is that there was that 997.2 GT2 RS that everyone looks upon and forget there was regular GT2, which itself is in different league in term of appreciation. I would always rather have 997 than 996 GT2 (not RS) for the same price.

  • @frederickcook87

    Love the cars, but these prices are half what my house cost 😳… I’ll stick to modding/light-weighting my 997S 👌🏾

    These cars are used more so as investments rather than track toys. If you want an investment, then yes it's worth it. Otherwise there are probably better cars for the money.

    • @joeracer302
      @joeracer302 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Absolutely agree, for a lot less $ you can get into a 991.2 Carrera T, with the right options (PCCB, LWBS, etc.), and some easy mods you could easily surpass the performance and recreate some of the experience of a 997 GT2 (RWD, turbo, etc.) for half the cost. I think looking at 997 GT2 as an investment is correct. There are other options for less $ that replicate similar performance experience. Honestly, the modified T will be superior in many ways even, but obviously a 997 GT2 is a very special experience.

      @@joeracer302 I reviewed a tuned 500HP 991.2 Carrera T recently, video coming soon. Contextualizing it against the GT2 didn't cross my mind until afterwards. It's definitely a much more well rounded car, and much cheaper, but you'll see in the video why it still fell a bit short in some areas for me.

    The experience of it's increased value has it's own weight and that thrill will only continue. The enjoyment of driving a lower tech quazi "vintage" Porsche is all about the tactile sensation. Bravo on your take Fenton.

    Great review. On a track compared to a 997 GT3 1. which would you prefer for pure enjoyment? 2. Which car would have a faster lap time? I think the GT2 looks better, with the side vents, and the rear aero

    • @Zygrene
      @Zygrene  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't driven either on track, but I suspect the GT3 would be more enjoyable given its linear power delivery. GT2 would almost definitely be faster, in the right hands.

    My cousin trying to convince me into a 997. Cannot seem to justify the 1.5-2x~ pricing increase from my existing s2000. I don't think I'd get that value out of it and would be hesitant to drive it as I would my s2000. With that said, he himself drives his 997.1 at a 1/10 level compared to how he drove his s2000 lol...
    I've not gotten a chance to drive any 997 at all anywhere near the way I want it to but it seems double everything. Double the upfront cost, double upkeep cost, double long gears, etc. has some motor issues with the 997.1 units I've read and only way I want one is a traditional manual

    • @snolvr100

      Find a 997 turbo. Best compromise and affordable compared to a GT2. With a few mods a 997 turbo will hang with a GT2. Furthermore, none of the Mezger turbo motors had issues. That was the non-turbo engines that had bore scoring, IMS issues.
