- Powerful Crosswinds and Wind Shear Aircraft Landings at London Stansted Airport caused by Storm Imogen with aeroplane Aborted landing attempts & turbulent and rough landings and a British Airways diversion from London City Airport.
filmed when "Storm Imogen" hit the UK on 8th February 2016, London Stansted Airport was affected by gusts of wind up to 41Knots. This video captures some of the great piloting skills as aircraft big and small arrive at the airport in difficult conditions.
You will see firm touchdowns that show the abilities of the airframes and go-arounds which show how safety is always paramount.

Ryanair - Boeing 737-800 Second aborted landing go-around
Flybe - EI-REM ATR 72-500 (Stobart Air) bumpy approach and touchdown.

I gained my private pilot's many years ago and it's surprising how you can become accustomed to those approaches when the aircraft is being tossed about. It certainly raises your heartbeat. All of the pilots in this video would have begun their careers on light aircraft. The closer you get to the ground the steadier the wind becomes due to it being interrupted by trees, buildings etc.
Nevertheless, all of these guys and gals showed great airmanship in landing or taking the decision to go around.
I envy them.

Oh Geez!! I wonder which is scarier...for the nose to suddenly pitch down over the runway or to have a wing drop??? YIKES. . I have white knuckles just watching from here. Oh goodness gracious I would be so scared!! o_O

bananamanuk I hear ya!! I'm pretty sure all the passengers probably felt a little uneasy being blown around like that!! I'd rather have my feet planted firmly on the ground!!

Hi ive just moved to Suffolk from Cheshire where I was near Manchester airport, and wen plane spotting regularly and got told you couldn't spot at Stansted because there was no where to do this? where abouts have you filmed this amazing footage?
+James Orme Hello James, Thanks for watching my video of landings at London Stansted Airport. The Airport police operate the Planewatch scheme and recommend that you view aircraft from the "Burton End" road. Look at any map of the airport and follow the outer roads around and you will see this. There are no amenities here though and only a few mounds that give a view over the fence line. If you intend using a ladder, you must keep well back from the perimeter fence. I hope this helps. Alternatively my website has a few more details.
