This song is really incredible, it's one of her greatest songs, she still sings it in concert today and although I love Dimash's voice which is truly exceptional, I prefer Lara Fabian's because it's her story which means that no one can sing it better than her, a beautiful voice is not enough. Lara has this ability to transmit emotions and live the song which allows us all to feel the emotions even if it is another language and this is what makes her an exceptional artist. I have long been VERY attached to the source material for this - my absolute favorite "classical" piece Albinoni's Adagio. I was thrilled when I discovered Fabian's pop treatment of it. She builds it meticulously & patiently. It's brilliant. No pyrotechnics just for pyrotechnics' sake (though there are plenty of pyrotechnics😮). Every single choice she executes serves the story & atmosphere. No cover comes close. And honestly, I thought Dimash _butchered_ it. His is not even in my top 5 covers of the song. Talk about inviting vengeful hordes of stans to chase me with pitchforks.😂
Lara has more colours to hers version of Adagio plus it’s more emotive and you feel what Lara sings. I love Dimash’s version too it is beautiful, though Dimash’s version is more technical but then again in a few years when he has experienced life more his version will reflect that and be more emotive.
i prefer also lara version but i just disagree with emotive side of dimash. maybe you see it like a technical performance but i dont think so, he sings his own songs with the same power, and his kazakh songs usually deal with stories like adagio. he sings always songs powerful like adagio no matter the language. personaly i have just a little bit of difficulty with his english at that time.

Adagio Lara had written for a time in her life where her life was full of pain, this emotion was translated in the words and her breath. She breaths in with a shudder, similar to when you are trying to stop yourself from crying.
Dimash is probably the "best" singer on the planet, by many objective measures. But, when I want to listen to "Adagio" (and some other songs) I'll choose Lara. To me, watching Dimash is one of those "wow, that's amazing!" experiences. But, he's not on any of my playlists.

I'm a big time Dimash dear, and I VASTLY prefer Lara's performance of Adagio to Dimash's, though when I watched Dimash's first, I thought it was super powerful. There are many reasons. 1) Circumstances: Dimash was in a voice competition, and he HAD TO impress the audience and the judges with his strengths, which includes his range, power, and control; at the time his story telling ability or emotional delivery were not what they are today. 2) Language barrier: In 2017 during the Singer competition Dimash's English was...awful. It has improved tremendously since then so that one barely needs subtitles anymore, but back then we couldn't understand most of the words. So it was tough to figure out what the song was about, and to make it worse, Dimash or Dimash's people did not change the lyrics based on the gender of the singer. Dimash later in his career covered another of Lara's songs, "Mademoiselle Hyde", and Igor Krutoy changed the words of the song to make it more relevant to Dimash. Now HE was Mr. Hyde whereas Lara was Mademoiselle Hyde. Those are 2 performances that you would absolutely enjoy reacting to! IMO Dimash used the song to show "over the top" technical skills rather than "drawing in" listeners to the song. People who like bravado prefer Dimash. People who like the gradual crescendo Lara offers, prefer her. Also her mastery of English puts her at a definite advantage over Dimash.

Absolutely Lara sings this better, without a doubt....her song she just sings it better MHO...sure Dimash did it quite well in the way he sings, but for the full on meaning of the song Lara is hands down the best....sorry, no competition whatsoever, I know that is not what you mean, but this is the way it was meant to be sung..... Lara's version rips into your soul....Dimash...not so much.
it depends of the listener, for me its lara for this song but i have seen many people who connect more with dimash, the same with sos in comparison to balavoine or gregory lemarchal.

If we compare Lara and Dimash, Lara is pure art and Dimash a circus act. So, for me, being a pro musiscian, Lara is my only choice. By the way... Lara wrote the lyrics, but the music is an old orchestral piece
I'm a big time Dimash dear, and I VASTLY prefer Lara's performance of Adagio to Dimash's, though when I watched Dimash's first, I thought it was super powerful. There are many reasons.
1) Circumstances: Dimash was in a voice competition, and he HAD TO impress the audience and the judges with his strengths, which includes his range, power, and control; at the time his story telling ability or emotional delivery were not what they are today.
2) Language barrier: In 2017 during the Singer competition Dimash's English was...awful. It has improved tremendously since then so that one barely needs subtitles anymore, but back then we couldn't understand most of the words. So it was tough to figure out what the song was about, and to make it worse, Dimash or Dimash's people did not change the lyrics based on the gender of the singer. Dimash later in his career covered another of Lara's songs, "Mademoiselle Hyde", and Igor Krutoy changed the words of the song to make it more relevant to Dimash. Now HE was Mr. Hyde whereas Lara was Mademoiselle Hyde. Those are 2 performances that you would absolutely enjoy reacting to! On the other hand, Lara covered "Love is like a dream" in Russian, and though I don't know the language, I believe Dimash did a much better job, including the emotions.

FYI, please keep reacting to Lara's live performances. She's at her most stunning in front of a live audience unlike so many artists!
IMO Dimash used the song to show "over the top" technical skills rather than "drawing in" listeners to the song. People who like bravado prefer Dimash. People who like the gradual crescendo Lara offers, prefer her. Also her mastery of English puts her at a definite advantage over Dimash.
