If Floor only ever covered this Lara Fabian song and did nothing else she would still be a legend! Its just opinion and I know the original by Lara Fabian and the many covers including by Dimash are phenomenal. But for me Floor's twist is the one for me.
Floor, Lara & Dimash all sing this song with their own flair...and all of them are great. Eventually, you will have to hear all of them. Floor sings with a lot of passion during this performance. She just sucks you in and keeps you glued to the screen. Great stuff. Cheers!
Floor is one of the most effective storytellers I've seen. She embodies every sound, every vowel and consonant, in real time. I've been following her since the first After Forever album through the ReVamp days and on into Nightwish and her solo stuff and her growth over those 20ish years is incredible. I'd love it if you'd give the original a look as Lara Fabian is unreal. Her song "Je T'aime" live from Paris in 2001 makes my eyes water every time, and her performance of "Je Suis Malade" is beautifully heart wrenching. There's a reason why someone as great as Floor is paying homage to Lara.

The great thing about Floor's voice is that is able to build up from small and controlled to just "letting it rip" like no other and put the full blast of emotion in there , while at the same time keeping full control at every (micro) second and every minute detail. That is just the difference between Floor and practically any other singer.

A deadly combination! Two really incredible vocalists. This song was, obviously, bade for Lara's vocal and ?ve heard a few covers of it and I wasn't overly impressed, but Floor is a totally different animal! When she sings, no matter what, she means business!

I've always believed that both she and Nightwish take songs from other artists and don't just cover them, they make them something completely different from the original. Not to say that they own them, but that they give each song a... different Essence. And Floor, oh Floor... Everything he sings gives me chills and warms my heart

Thank you for reminding me of this brilliant song. You're right, it is in fact a very sexy piece lol, and Floor puts every ounce of her talents into it. Adagio is a term used in music theory, which is about as much as I know about the word lol. And I can imagine that she uses her husband to channel her feelings in all her songs, hehe. And... I found out that her smiling is not just reflecting her feelings but also aids in her singing, by expanding the mouth to let more air out, or something like that haha. I only know that because I've seen many reactions by singing coaches and teachers who use her performances as teaching aids. They are worth checking out so you can get a bit more of an insight into her techniques, even if you're not at all familiar with musical terminology or the mechanics of it. They will give you a much greater appreaciation of her abilities, even though you do have so much respect already. Another thing you might want to check out are the videos Floor has posted of her daily life at home. During the pandemic she made a number of regular episodes of her thoughts which are beautiful to hear, and watch, as Hannes is a fantastic videographer (I believe he filmed her videos, like this one). In addition, the family has done some commercially sponsored spots which have great film of their daily life around the homestead in Sweden that are a lot of fun. The music of this song was written by the famous Italian composer of the second half of the 17th - first half of the 18th century Tomaso Albinoni. Early in her career, Lara Fabian wrote poetry and arranged the music for this song, which she then performed brilliantly. This is a BIG and very difficult song, requiring outstanding vocal skill and great emotional return.
Floor Jansen generally did well with the song, but it seemed to me that in one place emotions surpassed voice control. Lara did not have this and her performance is the standard of the FEMALE version.
Among the male performers of the song, Dimash's cover is certainly an unsurpassed masterpiece by anyone. No wonder Lara heard Dimash's 2017 entry at a competition in China and called him a "star boy." Many singers tried their hand at performing "Adagio" with varying success. I want to offer you a very rare version that is virtually unknown in Europe and America. This is a recording of the performance in 2002 of 13-year-old Jasur from Uzbekistan at a television competition for talented children in Moscow. Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music composition and different lyrics (Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer of this new version.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, Evgenia Fanfara, , …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.

I've always believed that both she and Nightwish take songs from other artists and don't just cover them, they make them something completely different from the original. Not to say that they own them, but that they give each song a... different Essence. And Floor, oh Floor... Everything he sings gives me chills and warms my heart

I saw floor with Nightwish twice last year so you could say I’m a fan 😊- but you should really check out the Lara Fabian original from Lara live it’s something else !

Hello Debbie, Adagio is an Italian musical term that indicates that a piece of music should be played at a slow, comfortable tempo. Literally it means "easy". Adagio belongs to the quieter tempi. The metronome number comes down to 66 to 76, so 66 to 76 beats per minute.
That's a $6000 microphone, and yes it's lucky indeed. :) And I support the suggestions of watching Lara Fabian's original. It's very good - different but good.

Thank you for reminding me of this brilliant song. You're right, it is in fact a very sexy piece lol, and Floor puts every ounce of her talents into it.
Adagio is a term used in music theory, which is about as much as I know about the word lol. And I can imagine that she uses her husband to channel her feelings in all her songs, hehe. And... I found out that her smiling is not just reflecting her feelings but also aids in her singing, by expanding the mouth to let more air out, or something like that haha. I only know that because I've seen many reactions by singing coaches and teachers who use her performances as teaching aids. They are worth checking out so you can get a bit more of an insight into her techniques, even if you're not at all familiar with musical terminology or the mechanics of it. They will give you a much greater appreaciation of her abilities, even though you do have so much respect already.
Another thing you might want to check out are the videos Floor has posted of her daily life at home. During the pandemic she made a number of regular episodes of her thoughts which are beautiful to hear, and watch, as Hannes is a fantastic videographer (I believe he filmed her videos, like this one). In addition, the family has done some commercially sponsored spots which have great film of their daily life around the homestead in Sweden that are a lot of fun.

You should look up Yannis Papadopoulos, His main channel he covered many songs including Ghost Love Score. He is also the lead singer for Beast In Black. You'll be surprised by his voice.
On the last Nightwish North American tour Beast in Black was the opener. I think at least one of their songs had a very Nightwish like melody.

This was performed in her home studio without the benefit of an orchestra and for me is the most empathic version just ahead of Lara Fabian but it's close. Sorry but can't appreciate Dimash as it's just another chance for him to show off his vocal range and technique which is of course amazing but that's all.
You really need to hear the original from Lara, not even Floor can beat her with this song.
