    The Norman Conquest did NOT involve building castles and churches all over Britain, The Normans only took over England and stopped at it's borders.

      Chepstow. Cardiff. Caldicot. Swansea all in Wales had castles built by the Normans. King David I of Scotland also had castles built by the Normans in Scotland. The Normans also conquered Ireland founding many abbeys and castles there too.

      @@historydave1143 King David 1 was a King of a Sovereign Scotland, he may have used English or Norman builders, but not under any type of foreign rule.

    1066, 1919 and 1945 is the most important years in British history. 1066 is the big turningpoint. Everyting have it outspring in 1066. 1919 was he beginning of the end of the British empire and 1945 was the end of it even Britain won both WW1 and WW2

    French words entered the English language indeed but did not have a strong effect or hold like Saxon or Norse.
