  • Napoleon François Joseph Charles Bonaparte was born on 20 March 1811 in Paris and died on 22 July 1832 in Vienna. He was the son and heir of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, and his second wife, Maria-Louisa of Austria.
As Napoleon II was an imperial prince, he was made King of Rome at birth.
In 1814, he was ousted by the Senate following his father's first abdication. In 1815, at the end of the One-hundred Days, he was proclaimed successor to the French Empire by his father, under the name of Napoleon II. However, officials refrained from proclaiming the 4-year-old imperial heir, who was in Austria at the time, emperor of the French. Napoleon II's "reign" ended after two weeks when Louis XVIII entered Paris.
After the loss of his imperial title, Napoleon then bore the title of Prince of Parma, and finally, that of Duke of Reichstadt, a title given to him by his grandfather, the Emperor of Austria.
Napoleon II spent the rest of his life in Austria. Until his death at the age of 21, he was recognized by the Bonapartists as the heir to the imperial throne.
Posthumously, Napoleon II received the nickname L’Aiglon, which means young eagle.

Now there are 2 things I have learnt from this channel:
If you are a Princess of Habsburg -> don't marry a French Prince, King or Emperor.
If you are a royal child or offspring of the above mentioned marriage -> don't expect a long and happy life.

France and the Habsburgs had traditionally been bitter enemies and often at war but after the 7 Years War the Austrian chancellor Kaunitz decided to take a new approach and make peace with the French - this is why Marie Antoinette was betrothed to the dauphin of France (later Louis XVI) and later on Napoleon also wanted to make peace with Austria by divorcing his barren wife Josephine and marry the daughter of the Austrian emperor.

You know, even though he died at the age of just 21, at least Napoleon II got to be buried in the same place along with his father, since it’s kinda rare for some royal children to be buried in the same place along with their parents.

The play 'L'Aiglon' was written for Sarah Bernhardt, who was 55 when she played the teenaged prince to great acclaim. The play is by Rostand, author of 'Cyrano de Bergerac'.

Me too!! 😢 Many of us do in fact!!
But this is her channel, not ours, so she has the right to make the decisions she deems best... I'm well aware she has been having a difficult time continuing with this channel and if it weren't for her still wanting to make videos, she would have abandoned this channel.
Let's support her because the quality is still the same and the charm is not lost!! ❤
We will all miss her voice terribly but the channel is still there!!

I understand. But as mentioned earlier. Due to personal circumstances, i have made this decision. For now, it has to be this way. The channel is just me working on it. This is not a joint effort, I have to do everything on my own. It was not feasible to continue the way I was. I hope you understand.

Hi, awesome live history video I enjoyed it. How are you and Rani your cat doing? I'm doing well and so is my cat Benjamin. He sends his hugs and purrs to you both. We have spring like weather in Ontario Canada. How is the weather where you are? All your history videos are always enjoyable. Have a great weekend see you next video 😊

We are finally getting some spring weather too. It's still cool, but there's sun, which I love. Please hug Benjamin for me... Rani's doing quite well... She's enjoying the early mornings with a bit of sun. She loves going outside on my balcony to take in the fresh air (she's an indoor cat, but I turned my balcony into a cattio).

After his death, he was entombed in the capuchin crypt, in piano, or almost all the Hapsburgs are buried. But strangely, after Hitler occupied Paris, he brought the body of Napoleon II to Paris, to be entombed in the Invalades with his father.

Bonaparte was a usurper, and not a real Royal! And he was also a revolutionary and had slaughtered French Royalist loyal to the King, before he usurped the thrown.

I wonder that Napoleon l was emperor. Why was his son called Dauphin like king's son? And who was Marie Louise's of Austria grandfather? It's very nice, as usual, to learn about these "forgotten" historical persons. Thank you! 🥰
