PG The Phantom Robber gets a fortune in jewels and some valuable papers from a robbery on the "The Midnight Limited" train, Val Lennon and his pretty assistant, Joan Marshall, are on his trail.
Interesting black and white who-done-it aboard a train. These old movies are far more entertaining than today's offerings and more fun to watch. Thanks for posting. Joe S
My biggest fear is running out of old B&W movies to watch. Luckily, at >60, I will soon be forgetting if I saw them before. Love the American morality of post depression America.
oh? because watching princesse monaie hoitily toitily bossing the working class around on the heels of the Great Slump signifies MERE witchcraft, you see 💡💡💡
I love watching movies from my grandparents were children and before my parents were born and when they were babies it brings me so much joy I love it.
Great example of an older detective flick, but the best and most famous detectives never had silly ditzy women following them around and messing up their cases. Even Miss Marple sleuthed alone.
The phantom robber gets a fortune and some valuable papers from a robbery on the midnight limited train! Val Lennon (John king) and his pretty assistant Joan Marshall (Marjorie reynolds) are on his trail! The action is fast and furious-they try to solve the mystery and unmask the identity of the robber-it’s a good movie to watch! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
oh and another thing,,, I've seen a lot of these movies over and over again but this movie I've never seen.... Before........ And thank you once again this one I'm definitely telling some personal friends to check out cuz it was good............
There's an acting style to all early cinema that may be classed as 'dated' but this is the best example of plain old terrible delivery / no acting ability I've ever seen. The lead isn't really even speaking, he's simply filling the gaps left by the other cast members with words, nice and loud and clear like he's reading the alphabet. It's a joy.
the Conductor: pat flahtery his own distinctive voice can be recognized....it would have been great to hear his personal stories of his life and experiences and meeting particular people. NM
1:16 -- Was there ever actually a train that went from NYC to Montreal via Albany-Syracuse-Watertown? This would have been WAY out of the way, especially since there's a direct route north from Albany to Montreal!
1:43 everybody is wearin a hat. I remember in the early 50s all the adult males (white collar neighborhood mostly) seemed to wear hats every time, also many of the women if they dressed up. Blue collars on the job were exceptions. Now it's the reverse -- blue collars always seem to wear baseball caps or other kinds, while white collars much fewer.
Remember when men would go out dressed in a suit with a raincoat or overcoat folded over their left arm. You would see that all the time in movies of this era, it seemed to last into the 50s.
I'm no crook, But what is a hell of a scheme they had it starts with the clerk at the hotel calls the fellow Crooks. The crook gets on the train in a coffin, then the clerk of the baggage car lets him out, then the crook does the robbery and gets back in the coffin -- or jump off the train but in real life you got to be a really good detective and figure that out
@@eggheadartistYes, I came here to complain. The "Bufoonish Negro" is in very poor taste, even for 1940. Anyone who thinks that is funny is a stupid ass.
This guy Lennon has gotten way too familiar with this woman in a very short period of time , like after five minutes. Also too patronizing. "Don't worry yourself and get some rest...". He should worry more about learning to be a detective.
I love watching these old movies again. I used to watch them when I was a kid in the 60's. People had manners and respect then!

Hey fellow 60+ fans, I too, love these oldies and America’s best years,😊
Automatic reflex for me to click on a b&w movie. Thanks for providing it.

same! im always on the hunt for new b&w's❤
Wow truer words where never spoken, I love watching movies at least a few times a year or so being 71😊
It's the only upside to making it past 65.
Yes! Me, too! 💛
When I was in the US Army back in the 50's I went every place on trains, here in the US & overseas in Germany & other places in Europe.
Good one. I like train stories and this one had a bunch of accomplices and a Holmes-like set-up.
So true train movies r awesome .
The plot isn't confusing and the two leads have a nice chemistry.
Maybe it's just me, but I love train, ship, & plane mysteries. Can't figger why?
Have you seen "Sherlock Holmes-Terror by Night"? (1946)
@@scarygary-qq1pj Yessir~ 4-6 times!
the lost horizon has a good plane adventure in it
@@scarygary-qq1pj also try Doug mclure & kim novak in satans triangle ..
Bc characters are "forced" into being with each other

I really enjoyed watching this film.
Good flick and Peg looks great.
Very entertaining and enjoyable movie 🎥! Loved it!❤
I was in love with Marjorie Reynolds , as an eight year old in '56 when she played Peg in 'The Life of Riley'.
A very pretty woman.
I've watched this one multiple times - it's a good one! Thanks
Good old fashioned crime story thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this movie thanks for the download

Pretty good film and always love the trains. Thanks for the show~!!!

Everybody wearing hats back in the day
I was born the last week of the 1940's. Always intrigued.
I'm a 49er too. Like noir - this one is good!
I believe the locomotive star in this film is none other than Southern Pacific daylight 4416
How could you tell that? Amazing, you must be a train lover and have good eyes.
Story Lass thank you
@Zachary Becker : Trainspotter! 😆thanks!

These where the films that made me love sleeper trains , only thing the compartments seemed to be the size of half the train
Great Great movie geeet the popcorn!
Another great old movie.
This isn’t poverty row, it’s POVERTY ROW!
Those were the good old days when you didn't have to lock your door on the train even when carrying 75k worth of diamonds!
LOL-pretty sure they STARTED after this...
@@vernalc2449 yep, the very next day!
If you were a fool, I guess.
Mike Johnson: Because he didn't lock the door, he got robbed. What's good about that 🤔
@@kathy8355Seriously. If he locked his door, I wonder what the thief would've done. Try to kick it in, thereby making all kinds of racket?🤔

Marjorie Reynolds is famous for being in a few "Mr. Wong" movies starring Boris Karloff.

Good movie second go round😊
John King's voice sounded a bit like Gary Cooper's.
I thought he sounded like Peter Graves or James Arness.🙂
Ridiculous premise.-----i've been robbed and I want to.join the police force to find the thief.-----oh. Ok
The professor's lines and his delivery sound remarkably similar to those of Sydney Greenstreet in The Maltese Falcon.
When did the detective get shot and killed? I never heard a shot.
I enjoyed it

Wondering why when the railroad cop took the girl to "lunch" it was night?
Vernal: I noticed that too :-) ! Whoops!
Maybe lunch meant something else ?😏

Hmm. Seems kind of primitive for 1940. I would have thought early 30s if I didn't see the title line.
"It's A Monogram Picture!!" - our mark of quality.
Erg Budster ..I thought the same thing for some reason. Just from the opening credits. Hmm..
Erg Budster Like they would actually take this dumb dame along on a police stakeout. And ride the trains all over hell.
How is this movie...?
Yes.
was the guy dead in the coffin?
